dont any of you remember setting little goals? most of us im sure, leveled our first job thinking "i'll never get my AF! they keys are so rare! the chests are so hard to find and i'll get lost and probably die!!! /sigh" but most (lol all) have probably gotten full AF1 for their first job, and just sat in jeuno, or their mog house, and just ooooh and aaaaahhh at themselves (i huggled my taru for hours after full af1! a little medic awww! :D). And we set goals after that, xSpell or xWeaponSkill, or xFullAF2.

-apply to BG, get tells to talk to people
-few days later, apparently i have no "trial period" like other applicants have because of my long record of perfect dynamis attendance and such and so on
-BG is dumb, inside jokes, stuff i dont understand, no good LS chat like ROTP, i think about quitting
-i get used to stuff in BG, enjoy it for the most part, like seeing things get done in an orderly fashion
-blah blah blah events
-lots of ppl leave BG for WoW and people outside think BG is crumbling and so on and so forth, BG is fine with a little extra added drama to keep things interesting

I've quit FFXI 3 times, gone to EQ2, EQ1, City of Heroes, Lineage 2, and finally to World of Warcraft.

The reason I keep coming back to FFXI is not to sit there and camp the 3 kings everyday, it's to play with the same friends I've been playing with for 3 years. Yes, I camp pretty much daily to see my friends get good gear - and although at times it's boring, it's also really awesome to see some of your best friends get equipped.

I've played WoW end-game up until the Twin Emperors in AQ40, so it's not like I got to level 30 and stopped and said "this game sux lol". I actually really enjoyed WoW's endgame, I would even say a lot of it is better than FFXI, but at the end of the day what it came down to was I was playing with a bunch of people that were strangers. So I came back to FFXI.

Like Aria I've quit FFXI twice. I quit EQ twice, and I have quit WoW once. (holy shit I'm such a quitter.) Anyways... WoW is the place to be if you like a) going solo through out the game, b) like your objectives easier, or c) want everything you can get out of a game for one char in less then 1year. It's fun, I enjoyed it, and I only quit because I realized that I was 26 and other things that are more importent to me are too demanding with their time to allow me to do both. That and I was high enough pvp rank to realize that rank 14 only ment time played, not skill....and I lost interest. (I could care less about PvE tbh)

FFXI is 150% about community. The game is semi fun, but exping with some pug isn't that fun. Exping with 5 friends and tearing shit up is a blast. Camping kings is shit on a stick, but hanging out with some peeps or chatting on vent is great. The objectives are way harder, and the time invested is WAY more in FFXI, but the people are a much more intelligent community (no really). People play FFXI because of 2 reasons, one of which is something I found myself doing and was why I quit. The good reason to play is FFXI has built you years of friends that you had to grow or level or camp or kill things with. You love spending time with them. The other more common reason people play is thats what they did yesterday. Once MMO's become more routine in your life then life itself, you log on because you log on.

In the 4 years I played MMOs I had a lot of fun, made a lot of friends, and got a lot of cool gear with a sence of accomplishment. Now that I am done completely with MMO's (except the forum trolling *cough*), it makes me kinda sad that I have nothing tangible to show for it. All the friends I made live far away. All the time gear money and effort I put in the game dosen't exist in my world. Play thye game that makes you glad you logged on at the end of the day. Just make sure your addiction (thats the only possible word for what I expirienced) dosen't do more harm then good.



Edit *I also like FFXI more because of the Tarutaru's. If I wasn't a taru I would have quit after the first 6 months, if you're not taru you wouldn't understand *

I am. The people who quit the game because they didn't get an M.Body, weren't playing the game for their friends, or for the MMO aspect of the game.

To a much much lesser degree we have e-body. If Armanie's insanity had been on voice chat, I could imagine it being world-famous, but not as much as Leeroy Jenkins.
