That game has been in the works since FFXI was out in the US. The game they are working on for new consoles and pc is supposed to have looked reminiscent of FFXI. That game doesnt look anything like FFXI. Pretty sure there must be something else in the works.

BG WoW members have a distorted view of progression. You have easily outpaced your competition Horde side and probably Alliance side as well. You have blown through content at an amazing pace and should be commended for it but your experience is not the one of the average WoW player. Sadly those of us not in “The” guild on our respective servers experience this progression at a much slower rate.

Furthermore the progression of WoW as a flaw will lock players out and provides barriers to entry for newer players looking to join established raiding guilds and unfairly penalizes guilds when a well equipped member leaves. Also on a larger scale it discourages newer players from starting up on older more established servers and force Blizz to continue to create new servers which creates further problems when you are on a low pop server (Azshara).

There is an entire population of nomadic WoW players that have clog up ques from new server to new server just to race to 60 in hopes of being a part of “The” guild for their respective faction and then reroll when they fall short.

FFXI progression is at least not tied to having 39 other people in the zone. After what seems like hundreds of runs of 5-10 man instances just to get gear that still leaves me well behind the dominant raiders and Blizzard announcement of adding even more difficult instances with even higher level gear and mobs that I will never see suddenly staring at darters doesn’t seem so bad.

Sorry if this was allready touched on. I kind of skipped the middle pages of the thread.

I was feeling a little depressed after reading about Fantasy Earth, I had/have my hopes set high for the next SE MMO. I was hoping for something with the depth and greatness I think SE did with FFXI and the sexyness and artistic scope of the grafics for the new webzen game Soul of the Ultimate Nation http://soulultimatenation.com/html/ I had always hoped to see armor in XI that looked like the armor in this game, so sexy...

If camping three kings is all you do in FFXI, then yes it would be rather depressing. How fortunate that there are other things to do in the game. You can get rank 10 in all three nations, you can fight Maat on 15 jobs to get a Maat's Cap, you can chose an Adventuring Fellow and level him/her to 65, you can complete hundreds of unique quests that tie into the storylines of the nations and the people that dwell in them.

There is more to do in a game that to just kill X monster for Y armor. Sometimes people forget that they need to stop and smell the roses every once in a while.

My view: Yes its sad that some people who have been camping them for 3 years continue to do so. No, its not sad however that new guys join in. The kings have lasted as important content, and though many of the items are not as good as they once were, there is reason enough to camp them still. And thats good. Only idiots who go 'omg ridill' stick to camping ONLY fafhogg though. And its always fun outdamaging those people who were so focused on getting a ridill they lack other good gear. Crap gear + ridill = crap WAR or DRK. Overcome your lust for certain pieces of gear and you might have fun.

FFXI's strongpoint is its content for players that is not HNM/Raid based. Like many ppl have pointed out, theres dozens of things to do after you get 75 on your first toon.

WoW's developer's put a heavy priorty on keeping the Raiding game going. Always designing new 40-man raid encounters. Its all about getting the big new badguy down and gearing out yourself and your friends. That and there's real PVP.

Both games cater to 2 different areas of gameplay. Neither one is inherently 'better', but for an individual, you tend to gravitate to the one that gives you the better gaming experience. Alot of the people in BG WoW that came from major FFXI-HNMLS's are hardcore raiders, and maybe not so much a fan of the things FFXI had to offer outside of DA, BD and VoS, and thats what makes them love WoW.

Sorry.. but you have it allllll wrong... first of all.. 3 kings ARE FFXI's endgame. Second, FFXI isnt a "traditional" MMO.. with the story and such. Most MMOs have a storyish.... but FFXI just has some cutscenes.
So.. endgame is only 3 kings... can't agree with you on that, because then sky/ sea/ dynamis/ limbus can all just be classified as diversions. If WoW has things like instances, and thats considered there endgame, how can our semi instanced content be anything less? Also, FFXI is traditional in the sense of the grind to max level, and the fact that it was built from an old school model of MMO. Most Mmo fall into a category of pre WoW, and post WoW. FFXI is doing its best to try and adjust in a world that was changed by WoW.

If Kings are the real Endgame FFXI, then the OP is absolutely correct, but imo there is more to endgame, and it's really about activities for players who have reached the level cap, not sitting around camping three kings all day every day.

Well you're being a little too nice when it comes to FFXI. It's a pretty badly designed game when it comes down to alot of the aspects of the design, especially endgame (why dont the biggest baddest mobs drop the best gear?). The real point it shines is that it works so well when you play it with OTHER people, and especially people who have more meaning to you then Guild Shaman #17 Guy Who Cures Me. Not to say you can't build any meaningful relationships on WoW. I'm not trying to bash it, Blizzard makes amazing games, but alot of people are still sticking around with FFXI because of how it brings people together and keeps them playing...not because the content is overwhelmingly good. Sadly it feels SE is thriving off of our unreal connection to the game and its players (read: addiction) that they feel they can slack on the real meat of FFXI.

Just because I'm still doing shit every week, day in and day out on FFXI, doesnt mean SE is making good content. Just means they know they can get by with what they have, which sucks, cause we'll play anyway.

like many of you, i was in the top linkshell and at one point i was probably one of the top players on the server. being in that situation, i would have people constantly try to become my friend because of status and have way too many admirers and than someday turning into traitors. when the fun stopped, which it did long ago, i couldn't let go because i worked for 2 years to obtain everything i had, i noticed it, so did everyone else. the community was very tightly knit with elite hardcore groups, so a lot of us stayed because of our friends and followers. i kept playing even though it wasn't fun, getting richer and more powerful, the friends kept me playing. with all the attention and power comes drama. i looked for a challenge by doin the hardest things and soloing duoing HNMS that took full alliances and when I did it, felt like full alliances were useless and so boring and I stopped doing events that were too simplistic such as gods etc. after linkshell officers tried to 'suspend my gear', i figured, heh i guess after 2 years of raiding, this shit's not even mine, so after the drama, i quit my ls(which many of the members are in BG) and the game just disappeared, no goodbye post like i planned, just totally forgot about FFXI, tried out WoW and it was the most boring game ever(somehow i got to 60 later).

for me, my friends and ls kept me going, but once i was linkshell-less, i was offered to join the other hnmlses, but i had no motivation to do that anymore, in my mind i beat the game ;o

and farming blows for FFXI and everybody cheats too

what will getting rank10 in 3 nations get you? mogenhancement cancel each other out
maat's cap? that's a joke, it has the best stats overall, for 435684590380348503495834905890345 hours of leveling.
level npc to 65? what will your level 65 npc do? maybe it will tank that HNM!

FFXI quest's consumes time and allows you not to think of our boring lives. taking a break from FF and trying a new MMORPG(which i won't encourage, quit all MMOs for your good) you will realize there's way better things out there.

Rechargable Teleport-Jeuno for when the Warp NPC is out of commission, or stuck in Nyzul Isle.

Might not be a haste build ninja, but an NPC can survive a hit or two when you're in a bind.

That's where you'd be completely wrong. Almost every game has some kind of controlling factor, like a timesink.

All video games are wastes of time. How you get your fun may not be related to how I get my fun. Therefor, why are you ripping on what someone finds 'fun?" in a thread that tries to point out there's more then three kings? MMORPG's aren't for you soo..don't play, don't post and don't rip on other people's enjoyment.

    I am right.

Playing a different game with a shorter timesink doesn't change the fact that your life is still boring.

my life isn't boring, but that's not the case. for HNMLS, camping fafnir everyday, chocobo from jeuno to DA is like 30mins. yes you can prolly be at a city and teleport near boyadha or w/e it's called, but when you wanna get to jeuno, ur fucked, you gotta wait 10mins for a ship, 1min to wait, 3mins in flight, just to go check the AH. yes i'm ripping on FFXI, why? cause i was a fool and wasted many hours camping all the HNMs in FFXI at one point. i didn't enjoy it and i continued to camp.

for rep grinding, thank god i don't have to do that
