Aurik's not an asshole, not stupid, and he doesn't play this game too much at all. He's a well respected member of Asura, and he doesn't open his mouth unless he knows what he's talking about. Regardless of the kid being a scriptkiddie, they still learn alot by doing so, hell thats how I learned the basics. Some work best by using and minipulating others, and it grows from that. But judging from otheres findings on him, hes just a dumbass who knows how to install an FTP.

Getting him caught is easy now, all the cops/FBI have to do is see this thread, the FTP site with the info on it and thats that. The FTP is upload only yes? did he forget to set policies to not let anyone in? well, if he doesnt have it locked down correctly and a person is able to upload anything from anywhere to the FTP, I may have a nice little prog at home that would do nicely. It uploads itself and reports back the folders, files, sizes, etc and actual data if you get the paid version. But as someone said above, I guess no one should really tamper with it.

If/when he does get caught, I heard somewhere that SE is actually working on filing charges? even if hes 21+ he can still get out of the conviction easily, as long as this is his first major offence (speeding, litering, etc dont count). The way courts work now a days, as long as its nothing like a murder, and felony can run through the Devirginace process. And exatlly how it sounds, its for first time offenders and hitting them on their hand and show them what sort of hell they will and could have gone through. If the kid has only used the info for FFXI accounts, and not using anyones more personal info such as CC's ebay accounts etc, he'll be able to be home free within 1.5~2 years of paper work, community service and monthly 'check ups'. His life will contiune normally after that, and anything related to the incedent will be legally locked away never to be brought up again, in fact it would be illegal from him to say that he went through whatever when filling out the 'have you had any felony's' or whatever on resumes or when an employeer asks.

So lets hope SE can make a big case, such as theft of $10k+ from estimated values of equip / character loss, because anything less will only get the kid a slap on the wrist.

That would be ideal. Instead of some nebulous, "I say my FF character is worth this much $$$" the stolen account now has a hard dollar value.

Much easier to do some simple addition and tack on some grand theft charges that way.

Yeah. His main character was on Bahamut right? He had access to accounts on other servers too. Nothing else he could really do since you cant transfer items/gil across servers. Just take any valuable items and trade them to a mule on each server and sell the items on AH. After everything sells he takes a quick trip to IGE and cashes in. Thats how I see it. Although that might be giving the guy too much credit...
