Yes they will hold that information but the only people they are going to give it to is a law enforcement agency. I think you have discovered enough about this person to pass the details onto such an agency. Sooner rather than later.

I guess I was confused possibly by how you obtain his log parser I thought that maybe you go to his site and download it. Which if he has a diclaimer somewhere on his site stating that his app has a keylogger attached and by downloading the file you consent to agree, I dont see how thats illegal.

My main point of curiosity however would be if he could legitmitly fight the fact that anyone broke any copyright issues in reading the code of his exe (Often companies copyright their apps and its illegal to disassemble the code. Not saying its the exact same in this instance, just a thought.) and also could he fight the fact people accessed his FTP and leeched files that he stole? Since accounts are rightfully owned by those who pay for them, Im wondering if in somone who gets the account info off the guys FTP is in any legal danger.

Not to point fingers or call names, but Im almost certain what Dezz did in logging in others accounts without the consent of their owners is a bit dangerous also.

Dezz didn't log anyone's accounts, he simply looked inside the "parser" program and found the IP address, user name, and password for the owner's FTP site.

Dissasembling code is not illegal, as long as you dont steal it and re-use it. No matter what the ToS on an application says, it is not breaking the law. They reserve the right to terminate your use of the app, but that's it. That's like saying I couldn't go and take my TV apart because of copyright violations.

Just got off the phone with a really good friend of mine at the FBI. He works as a network security engineer. Pretty much after talking at length of everything thats involved best of action is get on the phone with verizon.

1: The possibilities of him using the verizon server as a pass through are pretty high

2: if the person who did this has any sort of intelligence they're doing this via some sort of proxy / zombie / 3rd party DDoS

3: Just because the information is housed on a server at a Co-Location facility in northern virginia doesn't mean that he's not just housing info there to be accessed from elsewhere.

4: We as a community need to find out the information for Verizon's network security agents and report this IP address as a connection thats making people have the high possibilities for Identiy theft.

5: Be honest, if you've downloaded any of these tools start checking credit card statements, stuff along those lines for fraudlent charges.

The IPs I retrieved are in the block which verzion issues to normal customers. He's using a computer running windows (most likely his own desktop) to host this FTP

The way the executeable was written and his own security policies which I've encountered during my investigation lead me to believe that the person we're dealing with is not smart at all.

Again, I highly doubt he's using any sort of high-end server. This looks like a home computer running a server hosted on a DSL/Cable Line.

I've given all the information needed for this to Totien, and he's heading that up.

None of his tools have touched my windows computer. I downloaded them on to my linux "playground" style computer that I just use to tinker with things, zero possibility of infection that way ^^.
