    Anything more stable than fraps?

Hello, I want to make a small videoclip, but anytime I record in fraps, I go from 25-30fps down to 20, sometimes down to 9-15. I've tried what I could to keep FF going good, but it's just useless. I even set affinity (HT processor), that helped, but not enough.

The best I can record is if there's nobody on the screen bar me and 1 mob, but i'm always amazed how other people can record such nice vids.

So any other programs aside from fraps? Or anyone got tips how to record FF movies better?

to run fraps at full speed, you need to lower the resolution on final fantasy to like 640x480 but never passing 1024. Anything higher and you're gonna lag very bad.

The alternative would bet to get a cheap video capture card which go for about 20 to 30 dollars on Ebay.

Hard Drive speed is one of the major determining factors on how fast Fraps runs. It's writing a ton of data very quickly, and if your HD can't handle it, you're going to get slowed down massively.

This is true, I use my 2nd HD on the secondary SATA port exclusively for this as a buffer. It holds all SS's and any Fraps, it's the only thing on that port and believe it or not runs at like 18-20fps at 1600x1200 >_> Won't get that high in Aery obviously but normal stuff it's np

I'll 2nd the opinions already stated....

I've used FRAPS since it was released and really you need a good disk setup to keep up with input from the video processing. I currently used WD Raptor drives (10kRPM) which seem to work really well. Obviously, the higher the throughput, the better.

The lower resoultion helps as well, if you use a production studio such as Premiere Pro, you can do a lot more with formats and size... however if you are just going to do a simple video, set a good resolution in FFXI and record.

Your only real other option is to use an external video recording source. However, I only would suggest digital recording decks which I would believe is not what you are looking for at the moment.

Here's a couple samples, all using fraps:

    1. Bad Recording, Poor disk performance: One of our RDM's trying to solo genbu: JGP vs. Genbu (AVI)
    2. Good recording: One our members killing a Gil Seller while charmed: Corvac vs. Gilfinders (WMV)
    3. This video was poorly processed from a good recoding: (Dr. DIVX sucks) LOO Gilfinder vs. Gilfinder: LoO{Fun!}

I have some other offline, but these are just examples done on how FRAPS can turn out.

EDIT: Right-Click Save if you watch video... k thx.

That's the annoying thing >_< Anytime I record it's at 640x480, as to not lag myself.

I guess i'm out then Unless I buy another PC. My current one doesnt have room for another HD(I think).

Thanks for the help anyway. I saw a DL vid a while back, that was running extremely fluidly @ 1024x768, I'd reallllllllly love to do that. /fume

Edit : Nice vid vs gilsellers

Here's one of my vids, look at how choppy it gets with so little on the screen. I want fluency >:

Alternatively, you can set the speed up in Final Video editing to give the illusion of less frame loss.
