Annoying non-crafters

Oh ya another common thing that makes me laugh inside is how I still get tells fairly often from people who honestly believe because you have 100 crafting skill, hq is guaranteed.

This has only happened 20+ times:

player1: Hi can you make me a haubergeon+1
me: sure do you have everything ready?
player1: no what do I need...
<tell them and they get the stuff>
<synth nq>
player1: ?
me: what do you mean
player1: did you do something wrong?
me: huh?
player1: you said you are 100.... but you make nq...
player1: omg i just loss 200k when i thought I was going to make 8m.

thats exactly what i do too lol, except i charge a shitload more for HQ and i make sure they know it too lol

Basically despite the fact I've synthed 9+ clusters, and am way over the cap, I am untrustworthy and I wanna steal his cluster to sell for a measly 800k. He wanted me to give him a deposit, as if I'm the one who owes him something , and when the synth was done, if I smash it, he keeps my items, wtf?

Seriously, non crafters gotta realize who's doing who a fucking favour.

Normally I blur names but this was beyond dumb.

I get this shit all the time too. I charge a flat rate of 10% of the market value of the item for a synth (this goes for HQ as well, if I HQ, you pay 10% of the value of the HQ, if I break, you owe me nothing).

Nowadays it's to the point where I always do Ugly Hat synths by the AH, and I always go over the terms in /say. It's annoying, but I prefer witnesses who can see that I've said to the client that there's a fixed chance of break, that my fee is x gil, and that in the event of a break they are SOL.

Why not sabotage their synth by doing it next to the guild point item NPC and then while the synth is going, talk to the NPC to automatically break the synth and lose the ingredients

I've never charged for clusters, i've had people tip me but thats as far as i go. and sadly i have broken 1 cluster before in the middle of jeuno.. soo sucked.

The only one I've ever broken was on Full Moon Lightsday, in the middle of Upper Jeuno AH.

Naturally, it was a friends, not some random pleb I couldn't give a damn about.

Its great nowadays...people leave me alone..I made my gil long time ago in a market where I dominated everything....there was 3-4 100 smithers...I was only NA One...now there are 300-400 100 smithers and its not worth my time to craft much anymore >

If hauby+1 is 10M on AH
mats are 2M
I charge 5M for HQ, that makes them leave me alone

Why should crafters reimburse for failed synths? We are the ones that invested countless days and 100s of millions of gil to get high enough to even synth the damn thing.

People usually get stuff synthed for 1 of 2 reasons:
1) Save money on HQ
2) Its not a commonly sold item, like cursed hauberk for instance

If you are trying to save money on HQ, you should damn well know there is gonna be a risk involved..and when a synth pops , next time you will buy the one I had on teh AH instead and not go emo about losing 2M gil lol...I did not level my crafts to make other people money...

Back when I was a reasonable crafter I usually charged a reasonable fee on HQ, but not anymore.

Just lose it. And I think you have to actually trade him a gp item during the synth to accomplish this.

why not just control a 2nd acct, put dummy shit in a synth, and have your 2nd acct spam cures on you. When your synth gets lost, bitch about the random nub spamming cures on you, and walk off with free shit :D

I'd ask 3m for a Conte Corazza. 1m, you ripped him off. But then again, is it ripping someone off when they agree to be ripped of? i just tell them donation if HQ is optional. some ppl give a few gil when i hqed their stuff, some ppl just say thank you, but w/e lol

hell, i made Onyx cuisses for someone and i didnt charge him any.. eventhough i had less than 1m at the moment.. *i know im stupid* lol

but seriously i think i need to start charging ppl after i read this thread lol

Why wouldn't you though? Say you make them Onyx Cuisses. They paid 6 million for all the Kunwu, and they get a 50m piece of equipment. Charge them 5m, and why wouldn't they be happy? They still made 39m profit. The first time you see someone's name on the AH making insane profit off of something you made them, you won't ever hesitate to start charging again from that point on.

agreed. After the first time a person sells the goods you made for a profit, you look at things differently.

Which reminds me of a whm that asked me to synth blessed pumps for them. I charged them a small fee for nq and like always I check AH the day after because I want to know if they're a jerk....not only did the whm sell the blessed pumps for a few hundred k profit (at the time) meer hours after having me synth them; he sends me a tell claiming that someone hacked his account, put ONLY the blessed pumps up for sale, took the money and left the rest of his account alone. Naturally he wanted me to synth another and obviously I blisted the idiot.

I am willing to give people leeway within reason - but I do check the AH and I choose to tell everyone I know their name so they can avoid them.
