Sure MNK can't tank everything but smaller HNMs a very well geared MNK can do nearly as well as a a shitty PLD

Don't blame me if you haven't seen a MNK geared to tank or know of a MNK even willing to put in the effort to gear to tank.

I've tanked Faust on numerous occasions and I hold hate as well as a PLD, takes about the same damage too. Then there's Charybdis that are better off evasion tanked by a NIN or THF (yes MNK works here too) than a PLD. There are other MNKs that straight tanked Genbu and didn't die (nor drain all the mage's MP).

But hey, keep on believing whatever you want to believe. Makes no impact on me. I'll just continue to push the limits of being a MNK and have fun while doing so. You can go back to your "lolMNKDDonry" FFXI game.

MNK/WAR can tank fafnir almost as good as the average PLD out there.. Even though getting a decently geared PLD is easier than getting a MNK with a bajillion dmg reduction % gear, the fun of a MNK tanking Fafnir is what makes it worth it.

I'm not in 'lolMNKDDonry' FFXI, but I'm also not in 'lolCharybdisandFaustareHNMs' FFXI either. Generally when someone says "lesser HNM", I tend to think of something like Fafnir, not a trigger dropping NM.

Hello, I'm new to the board and not native english speaker. I'll do my best though ^^

As a bonecrafter, I have often been annoyed by ppl to get Hqs, especially on SH...

It has been said that you can often know who is gonna make money on your back and who won't... I totally disagree on that. I remember someone on Asura who asked me to synth him a SH+1, "blahblah, it's not for profit, blahblah, I won't sell it,blahblah, sig it i like it..." and so on.
The next day, his name listed on AH history undercutting the 3 SH+1 i had for sell.

But the worst i had was really funny

I was randomly trying to synth a SH+1 in front of ah as signet was still on and after so many V.claw breaks, I no longer hide my shame to break a claw to ppl by doing synthesis in my mog house.
Back to what I said, I tried my synthesis, and guess what, It broke.
All of a sudden, a random dude /shouted at me bitching me to reimburse his material, that i was the wrong one to synth his dear SH (i switched to my self signed Genie as evidence of crafts skills), and to reimburse the money he traded me for the synth...
I was kinda "lol, nice try dude", when people started to believe this asshole, also getting tells that it wasn't fair to do like that and such things.
WTF!!!
I was doing my recipe on my own (in public, but on my own), with my own ingredient bought with my own money owned by using my own time.

I felt the bad behavior of this man inspire me to buy up all the raxa i could and over-price the NQs on the AH. AND THE NAME CHANGE ! SO CLEVER! I had NO IDEA two people were so desperate for chances to cheat me out of gil on demon cloaks within a single hour. This was a nice welcome home from a traveling week of hell, though.

Basically despite the fact I've synthed 9+ clusters, and am way over the cap, I am untrustworthy and I wanna steal his cluster to sell for a measly 800k. He wanted me to give him a deposit, as if I'm the one who owes him something , and when the synth was done, if I smash it, he keeps my items, wtf?

Seriously, non crafters gotta realize who's doing who a fucking favour.

What amazes me is how people get away with that sort of thing sometimes.

Friend of mine managed to buddy up to something like 6 or 7 100+3 Smiths, get multiple Haub+1 and Berk+1's made, often signed, and sell them all for millions and millions of gil.

It honestly never occured to me to leech of anothers crafting skill so blatantly, but kudos I guess for managing to make some quick bank by burning your reputation with said crafters.

Even if I 1/1 HQ something (last week for instance, I 1/1'd a wivre mask +1 for some first job BLU who actually was a really nice guy) don't mind doing it, AH price is 800k, I charged him 240k, I wasn't in the mood to synth them otherwise and I made 240k on it, so w/e.

I won't synth for free, I won't synth if you can't pay, if you want me to make you something huge and you can't pay me 30% of it I give you NQ, sell it, and give you 1/4 of it (1/2 to LS) or you gtfo.

Anyone not ok with this gets the blist from me, there are other crafters out there, I don't need the grief, you want your own snipers +1 x2 for 500k? Good, go level the craft yourself.

I also follow a similar system, only I negotiate a bit more. But if someone thinks they're getting a high priced item, or HQ for free, they can kiss my pale white ass.

I go by 15% of AH price for HQ, if you can't pay, I take the hq and give you nq, no other way, don't like it, suckadick.

I'll normally synth simple nq items for no cost if the person isn't a shitface and doesn't waste a bunch of my time (like if I'm at the ah and someone has all the mats/crystal and I don't have to go out of my way.) If someone asks me to go to sky so I can craft for them, unless it's a good friend I so charge.

I feel like i`m missing out on so much gil`s;; lol i`m a little more lenient i normally answer people`s shout`s for a crafter as i dont mind doing the synth`s i normally just say 10% AH price for HQ and free if NQ/Break but the price`s are so lame in today`s market i no a lot of my freind`s leech off my skill`s for there cursed etc:
Maybe it`s time i started a revision of my way nice`ness and get tough!

Quick question for the people who have a policy of "If it HQs and you can't afford my HQ fee, I keep it and give you an NQ": How does this work for items that have a very rare ingredient?

For instance, Kyudogi requires Cerberus Leather (which most people seem to consider wasting a perfectly good hide) and Yoichi's Sash (second Ashu Talif quest, somewhat rare drop). It's not inconceivable that if you made a Kyudogi for someone and it HQed, you wouldn't be able to acquire the materials for another synth to make an NQ one. The finished product isn't sold much either.

What would you do in a situation like that?

I would do whatever I could to try to get one. Buy from AH, buy from a person, etc. If none of that worked, I would reimburse the person for the cost of the materials, and possibly throw in a little extra for the inconvenience of having to go find another set of mats (if I'm feeling nice... otherwise, its the money they paid for the mats, and that's it). The customer should be well aware of the possibility of HQ when going into the synth. If they are not prepared to pay for the HQ, and it is a rare synth like kyudogi, then they should be prepared to have to find new materials.
