Annoying non-crafters

I have a bit different policy for crafting, so my rules depend on the item. I tell everyone I craft for that if I HQ a tier 0 synth, they get the NQ (or reasonable AH price), a set amount of gil, and I keep the HQ.

Most other crafting I do for free, but on my own time. I won't drop everything I am doing to craft for people.

I also have a do not craft for list. And, unless you are a very close friend, don't ask me to craft your consumables so you can save 300 gil on sushi.

Quick question for the people who have a policy of "If it HQs and you can't afford my HQ fee, I keep it and give you an NQ": How does this work for items that have a very rare ingredient?

For instance, Kyudogi requires Cerberus Leather (which most people seem to consider wasting a perfectly good hide) and Yoichi's Sash (second Ashu Talif quest, somewhat rare drop). It's not inconceivable that if you made a Kyudogi for someone and it HQed, you wouldn't be able to acquire the materials for another synth to make an NQ one. The finished product isn't sold much either.

What would you do in a situation like that?

always always make agreement on big ticket item HQs prior to hitting enter. If HQ, and person cannot afford the *agreed-upon* price, keep HQ until person comes up with gil or items equaling to that amount (or a little more, considering you'll be the one footing tax costs and bother to sell them).

Guy in my LS was getting a Cursed Togi synthed, and I found myself in the position of agreeing with a dick who I've had blisted for years, because he HQ'D, HQ's sell for something like 9 or 10 million historically, and he wanted 6 mil. Dude in LS was bitching, said he offered 3 mil, but the crafter said he had a buyer who would pay 6 mil right there, so he wound up doing 3 mil and a haub +1 I think for it.

Noone has to craft anything for you, as far as SE's "rules" are concerned, once you trade something to someone, in most cases they can just say "thanks" and leave, so be happy when you get an NQ back for free.

I'm always very thankful to crafters who make things for me, make a point to advertise for them , and wouldn't expect to be handed millions of gil because someone else was better than expected for a change.

I mean, I'd ask if I could have the HQ for whatever I could afford, but hell, I can't really say "that was MY Ingot you just synthed that Berk +1 with, so give it to me" can I?

Not true. I tried to steal a shining cloth from a gilseller once. He traded it to me to make a nobles, I fake DCed, came back 30 minutes later in jail. I had already made the nobles and sold it, and the GM made me buy it back and give it to them to return to the gilseller. I actually ended up losing money on the deal, because the only nobles on the AH when I was buying it back was being way overcut. GM said if I didn't get one that instant, I would be banned. Gotta love when GMs wont do shit to help legit players, but bend over backwards to help RMT.

Maybe I'm just way too nice as a crafter.

If people bring me their stuff, I will synth for no charge (tips appreciated). I sometimes go out of my way to help people out.

If it's a huge synth (Kyudogi, Dalm, etc) the deal is usually HQ and split/sell. NQ is free, tip is nice. Otherwise, you bring me mats and I'll synth. If it HQs, good for you. I have enough gil that I dont need to be a jackass. I rarely craft for myself anymore, so its all about helping others.

Maybe it's just me, but I like my money, and 9 times out of 10 something I HQ for somebody is going to end up as 5mil profit for them in 6 months, honestly, if it comes down to it, if I'm gonna make it I expect to get paid.

Not a ton of NA leathercrafters on Ifrit anymore, people dont like my policy they can tab key tak to JP all they want, but I don't think I could ever drop my price policies like you guys.

"if i HQ you can have the NQ for free, but im not letting go of HQ". Most people understand, but some get a little pissy. Obviously the pissy ones can F themselves but i was just curious if anyone else does it this way?

Depends, if I am doing a T0 for a friend/LS mate I would let it go and suck it up. But if it was for some random ass person who sent me a tell. I'de either charge a decent portion of that HQ's price or just give them NQ. Although I cannot say much because I have never Tier 0'd anything yet lol.

LS members get synths for free from me *IF* they are planning to use item for a good amount of time, and only if i trust them a lot, because this is the type of deal that will result in the most conflict when sold (80% chance it'll probably get sold). I charge 50% of HQ price on synths, LS member or no, if item is getting sold.

"But they're my ingredients!" Ya? So you farm an hour for some stuff and you get 75% of the profits when i spent 2 years leveling a craft and spending over 40m? Ya that sounds fair to me too.

My craft, my rules, there are plenty others who might be nicer to you if you ask them properly and butter them up, but I'd rather not fuck myself over by helping someone forget the value of hard work. You're lucky I'm not keeping the HQ and only charging half.

Not that it's happened yet but Blessed Mitts/Trousers and Aristocrats are all on my shopping list and I've made it clear to shell peeps that until I've HQ'd for myself, I'm not trying for anyone else. As WHM is my pride and joy I think it would drive me nuts to give them away. Blessed more than Aristo's obviously...

Not a ton of NA leathercrafters on Ifrit anymore, people dont like my policy they can tab key tak to JP all they want, but I don't think I could ever drop my price policies like you guys.

Either the same thing is happening on Midgar or Midgar leathercrafters aren't crafting for randoms anymore (or my name is getting advertised in some way I don't know). I've been getting a heck of a lot of requests for high level synths, and the requests seem to double per week. It's pretty nice.

I told some guy the materials for a Plastron would cost him 300k less than the ah and I would charge him 100k for the synth ... so he sends me a tell today saying "I have enough". I replied "?" and he goes "You told me you'd make me a Plastron for 1.35m (or whatever number he said) and I said "No, I told you I'd make for 100k if you bought me the materials" and he goes "Aww now I have to go see what makes it" like it was my fault or something.

I have so many pictures of making them it's funny, it's like looking at baby pictures since it wa so long ago "aww, this is from the time HQ'ed 3 in a row" "Awww, my first HQ, look how happy I was"

Anyway, I dropped the T2 I had on it well over a year ago, and still get asked to make them.
