To answer how we can go kill the Ix'aern NM while we were holding AV:
We only use 4 ppl to hold AV, simple(those who were on the site knew our strat on holding), the rest of ppl went to kill Ix'aern NM. Jp gave us mnk pop item and they killed JoF. Later we just found out PM killed JoT at about that time. All i can say is holding AV is easy but fighting it is hard, if it can be zerged like DL any LS can defeat AV. Thanks to the anti-wall trick, we could have more challenging fight, instead of fighting something that can't dmg you. Looking on how hardcore Ironmog is, they might give clearer answer sooner than our LS. The drop rate sucks on Virtues, we farmed Sea for almost 8 month even though its not hardcore. 3 earrings from JoL and 2 torques for 5 JoL, and 6 sins from our team-up fight, it is hard to get items, but its rewarding to have.

It's not like non-Aegis PLD/NIN and NIN/WAR can't tank him too, especially with so much support. Honestly with as much support as they seemed to have PLD/WAR could've probably even tanked it, while it wouldn't have been nearly as efficient/effective I'm sure it'd still work. Doubt he would have much hate though...

Not really worth it. His physical damage output will kill you way before his magic normally does. Can't afford to dedicate nearly all pieces of equipment to air resist pieces that would hurt your ability to tank it.

im getting mixed ideas on how much dmg the PLDs were taking. How much did AV do WHEN they sheild blocked with aegis.

Based on what I read earlier in the post... PLD/NINs were hit for around 400 damage, with Shield Blocks reducing it down to about 100ish. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly, tests that a few PLDs have ran showed Aegis to reduce damage by about 60-65% or so? So that seems to be accurate.

After we were done, AV continued to use his 2hrs a bit more, then when we got into the flow of tanking (after we wiped a few times) it hasn't used its 2hrs since.

Just noticed, From page 1. So you finished what the JPs said to do, fought AV a few times, he 2 houred... wiped. Then on the last attempt, he stopped 2 houring.

Sounds like your idea did nothing, and you dont know why it stopped 2h at all.

That's not what I meant. I didn't word it very well.

After we cleared the NMs, I was still sac pulling. During that time I was sac'ing and everyone was reforming, AV used a few 2hrs, then stopped. When everyone was ready, I pulled AV to them, and they wiped a time or two before getting the winning run.

We called JP friends down here to help. One of the "leaders" of the JPs gave us a method of what to do to lock its 2hrs. I don't really want to give out info right now because 1. I dont' know if this really works, and 2. if I'm allowed to. Please don't flame me yet, because if we do kill it tonight, I will post the method to share with everyone.

That's all I saw about how you were fighting, besides doing Flood > TGA3 over and over (which I'm not bitching about). I'm curious what "method" the JP guys told you to try to lock the 2hrs, or tame him, or whatever.

And why can't this link back to the NM, who cares if it's in another zone? When all the other NM's have 1 2hr and that 2hr disappears when you kill it, what are you guys missing here...seems pretty straightforward.

It's interesting how these JoL/AV threads spread misinformation within just a few short pages. Especially when the information was on page 1.

I don't see anywhere that they actually said AV lost one 2hr at a time as other things were killed. No one mentioned them killing Jailer of Hope, Prudence, and Justice. Therefore, according to theory, he should still have those 2hrs, but apparently had none.

All that was said was:

Killing the NMs in the Garden/palace. Like the Ix'Aerns.

Many groups including my own LS have stopped his 2hrs without doing anything of the sort. However, pinpointing what exactly caused it is quite difficult and may have been glitched. There's a screenshot where someone says to kill the WHM NM inside the palace, but in previous threads where AV stopped benediction people said it was because someone was engaged with prudence rod, someone was fighting a WHM aern outside, or some other thing. However, the fact remains that he can stop using 2hrs without killing jailers.

The idea behind killing the jailors is only our assumption, untill we kill more AV with the same strat, i don't think we can claim that it will stop AV 2 hr.

What is interesting though that he did not gain the Aern bracelets at low HP as he had in the past. Congratulations on the kill.

I know, we've tried as well, and I said in the post it wouldn't be effective or efficient. But with an alliance of WHMs all able to spam cure tanks it's not impossible. But that's not even my main point, my point in that post is that you don't need an Aegis PLD/NIN in order to survive tanking with all of that support.

Main problem with PLD/WAR or anything non-blinking is Tornado II/Aero V. Murder on non-blinkers and once or twice while we were experimenting he'd even sneak that in on a blinker transitioning from Ni > Ichi and floor them. Aeroga IV was not really a problem, we handled it fine, the single target spells are the issue for non-blinkers and they are the reason we swapped out Aegis PLD/WAR for blinkers. Aegis itself is not required and will not save you from Tornado II. As for his sheer physical power, sure it outstrips any mob in the game and sometimes he will just randomly kill a tank, but lots of HNMs do that, even Genbu can get lucky and Poisonga > double attack > Tortoise Stomp and kill the best tank in the world. With 4 skilled blinktanks at the same time he wasn't a threat to stability until Mijin/Meteor/charm spam came calling.

Huge grats on your kill! I am still skeptical of the method, from everything that's happened this still looks like 'get lucky on a glitched state' to me, but regardless, AV even without two hours is still harder than any mob, so grats! I can't lie, I was hoping we'd be the first 'legit' kill, but any progress is progress.

I think any reasonable strategy for beating AV presupposes that you've locked his wind-based spells as well as his 2Hs. Speaking of which, can the group from last night comment on what they did to stop his wind magic, or if it's unclear, what was going on around the time that he stopped casting them?

Mmm, we handled his spells fine. If not for Meteor/Mijin/Charm I think we beat him already. Those are pretty big hurdles though.

I'm not sure if you can really say that until you've tried fighting him with 2Hs locked but still casting spells. It's easier to attribute problems to the 2Hs when they're there, but when they're gone you see what a hassle the spells are, as well.
