Make sure your Linkshell item is currently in your inventory (as opposed to your safe/locker/storage).

I happened to see this first so I registered and I could then set managerial rights. They can be set for up to five people but it's a bit mad that your sackholder should have to give you rights... LS leaders should get them automatically.

I'm aprehensive of this as well since my laptop isn't the cleanest machine in the world...not in a dirty sense but in a virus sense.
