So what's the latent?

Latent seems to be 75%+ HP. It stopped when he was hit into yellow, and then with regen it kicked back in around 76-77%, so it could be calculated on base HP, or we might have just been slow to notice.

Cya, that's it for me with FFXI. This recipe was bad and DEV Team responded finally after over an year. Poor, that there is no DEV team forum, at which we all can ask questions.

Got mine 1/1, took 4 spawns to claim though. Bst's mushroom pet was hitting it for 250+, when it blood weapond, it hit me for around 70 dmg (pld/rdm phalanx no food) It's a chump, go kick its ass.

No visible stat increases, healed 18 MP 1st tic with whm sj clear mind. (Dunno if that's an increase or not)

Would have been cool if it gave a refresh effect, since it has a regular food duration.

Buried in the thread is what it doesnt do. Maybe it gives something like a killer effect, or store TP, or subtle blow, or double attack+, something thats not readily apparent.

I tried fishing them. Admittedly, I'm a bit below the cap, but the bite rate sucked (assuming the cap is correct - until now, I doubt many people have consciously targetted Elshimo Newts for fishing).

Also, the drop rate from Sahagin is pretty good.

I have tried fishing them up also, but I could not fish them up. I have Fishing40 (cap for newts are 59).. I tried fishing with Composite Rod and Halcyon Rod both with Fly Lure at Yuhtunga (Underground) and ponds near the waterfall. All I got were elshimo frogs on both ;_;

I don't think it's a problem with skill, but it may be... does anyone know?

lu shang and fly lure or frog lure both work fine, i have no problem catching them..

Yeah it spawns claimed to the popper, only way people could have it stolen is if they disengage for some dumb reason.
