From 100 pages of dedicated research to a childish flame war over a moronic concept that no one really cares about two days after the mystery was solved.

Can someone please lock this thread before it's further befouled by these idiots? I think we've succeeded in what we came to accomplish. I'd like to keep this thread from breaking down into a derailed, proverbial slugfest.

Goblin Drink isnt a fucking Fomor Codex, which is only farmable off DC mobs in a lv40 or 50 capped area. Goblin Drink isnt a freakin Clustered Tar, which is only farmable off IT mobs in a lv40 or 50 capped area.

Your comparisant is so fucking terrible I should slap the shit out of you for even considering it.

the earlier you have an item, tha more value it has, rare/ex or not. anyone who disagrees with that remains an idiot.

That percieved "value" is only as good as until everyone else has this item.

The pop item is freaking cheap to make, and the ingredients are incredibly plentiful. The NM is soloable to many 75s, and if anything, really easily duo-able. This is not Tatami Shield, this is not Uggalepih Pendant, or Toreador Cape, or even a Reverand Mail. This is much easier to get than any of those items from their respective NMs.

The PLD that waits 2 weeks to get his isn't going to give a damn you got that 1 mp/tick for 14 days more than him.

Therefore, while you can claim all the more added value of getting a rare/ex item that's pretty simple to get in the first place a few days faster, the added value is comparable to spitting into the ocean.

yeah because the value of something is always reflected exactly in terms gil. no such thing as inflation or anything.

i know what you're saying, but having something now is always better than having it later, you can make the analogy to simple financial concepts.

    here's just a random example:

someone offers you $1000 10 years from now, what is that equal to if you were receive it today, assuming you could get 10% interest over the next 10 years? the present value of $1000 10 years from now is $385.54. that said, if youre offered the same item/amount of money/gil today or getting it 5 weeks from now, its better to receive it now.

its a poor analogy because it doesnt account for the inflation in ffxi, but if you look at it in terms of being able to use the item over the period of time you refuse to get it, it makes more sense.

besides the point, alot of people play this game to have rare items, or items before other people do. plenty of people , including myself, paid 20mil+ for the Walahra Turban. I could've waited until today and got it for alot less.

While what you say holds truth, the FFXI booming phenomena occurs at a far more rapid pace than your 10 year analogy.

Let's take something you brought up, the Walahra turban, for example.

When the turban first came out, I exp'd my heart out. Every moment I could spare at the computer, I was in a merit party. I sold every single coin I earned, and made probably around 15 million doing that. It paid for my sniper's ring +1.

2 weeks later, the coin market completely tanked (they were going for around 150k at the time, rather than the 700-800k each I was selling them at when they first hit top). At this time I decided to exp for my own.

There was a 3 week difference between when I got my turban and when the first rush of people got theirs. However, there is no difference in value between the two turbans today. My haste +5% is worth the same as your haste +5%, regardless of if you got to use it a few weeks longer than I have.

Now while the $1000 thingie applies to the 5 week thing, there isn't that much you can do in the game in 5 weeks that would make a significant difference with a Parade Gorget. In 5 weeks I could invest $1000 to get a head start on making money; the same does not really apply for the Gorget. Once again, while it's nicer to have something earlier, I certainly won't be losing any sleep not getting it for my PLD today instead of next week.

yeah well said. i'm fully aware that over the course of the next 2 weeks that 1mp/tic isn't going to be the difference maker between winning and losing for anyone.

i guess it depends on the individual, and where the value lies within the item. some people value items for their stats. some, like myself, value them for rarity. remember, when you're buying a sniper ring+1, you're not spending 15mil on 1 ACC, you're spending 15mil to be better than the next WAR without one.

while i knew the turban wasn't worth 20mil gil, statistically, being one of the first people on my server to have it was worth 20mil. i've spent 9mil just to get a shitty tutelary because nobody else had it, and the icing on the cake was buying a warwolf belt for 4.5mil the day it came out.

to me, that's how i challenge myself in the game. i've killed everything, i have pretty much every item excluding relic, which i'll have soon. only thing that's left for me is to try to do things before other people do. if i can financially afford to, i don't see why not.

but my point remains, to whoever said rare/ex items have no value, you're still a fool.

To all the people who have some horrible drop rate on this, I'd just like to say i'm 2/2 on this for friends. I should level THF, I really should, my TH-fu is strong.

Goblin Drinks are now sub-10k. Good skillup item for cooking atm tho XD

Actually, you're spending 15m on 2 ACC and 2 Ranged ACC. I don't know about you, but when I'm lookin' at whether or not to buy HQ, I'm not saying to myself, "Now, will I be sexy enough to get parties faster with this white box?" or, "Could this white box be the little extra fashion that makes Dynamis Lord die?"

When I buy something HQ, or any item for that matter, it's entirely because of the stats -- not because I think the item model looks better in my character sheet with a white box around it.

Yes, you are spending 15m to be better than the next WAR without one, but you're not better than the next WAR without one because your item has a shiny white box. You're better because you have +2 more ACC, to help you kill that mob, than the next WAR without one.

I don't even have a SH, now, but yes, when I had it, and I was soloing, I did wear my Scorpion Harness. I also wear my AF1 gloves most of the time, because I'd like to cap my Parrying skill since I'm aspiring to level PLD in the near future. I only use my RDM to solo, and in the rare event that someone in my LS needs me to use it for something else. Otherwise, I use SAM.

    Any further, ignorant comments?

Actually, when this sig was made for me, I had asked her to have me wearing my Protective Spectacles, because I personally think that full Thick Gear + Hauberk + Protective Specs. looks awesome with a Balmung strapped to your back.

If you're referring to Zenith Mitts as a fashion item, they're horrid.

If you're referring to them as gear to use when soloing on RDM, they might be useful if you're doing the Sleep => Nuke method, but they don't help much if you're doing the melee method, which is a hell of a lot more fun.

PLD Parrying caps at 225 and it'll cap around the same time you cap shield, if you think you're gonna rely on Parrying for PLD you have another thing comin'
