Yeah no shit, I'm tired of drooling at all the JP's that were in position to start killing Fafnir day 1. I want to be in the frist group to get there, farm that shit for a couple months and get every drop the game has, then go fish for like 2 years.

Any MMORPG sucks ass if you start six months to a year after launch. You ALWAYS if you want to have more good times then bad, start when everyone else does. Sure, you'll get to deal with all the shit that comes from a brand new MMORPG that's fresh, but that's nothing compared to starting a beast say like FFXI now.

And i've love to see Flux go play EQ. As he bleeds from his ass and vagina every single day about the many faults and failings of FFXI, the combo of him playing not only FFXI but EQ, a 100% run SOE game, the flood from his nasty parts would drive up Tampax and Depends stock to 60 year highs. Contact your stockbroker now and prepare to cash in on one idiot's self-abuse like never before.

FFXI is far older than WoW.
If we look at WoW in three years, it will most likely be inferior to some other MMO that arrives in one way or another. WoW could look a the flaws of other MMO, and say they don't wanna' be like that. I believe when SE made FFXI they had very little history with online, and were modeling their game after traditional MMO, thinking this is what the fanbase expects.

WoW and FFXI are for two different kinds of players. FFXI imo is not the most fun game, but when you accomplish something it's very rewarding. You get a great deal of pride when your character reaches a certain level, rank or obtains a certain item. I'd say WoW is probabaly more fun, and less rewarding. It all just depends on which you are looking for in a game.

Idk why WoW ppl always come on FFXI forums talking shit tho.. it's like they are angry against the game. If you are having so much fun in WoW, why does it matter whats going on in FFXI?

FFXI has never officially had more than 550k subscribers (i.e., individual accounts.) That's the most they've ever claimed to have, so I'm not sure why that chart lists them as having 650k at one point.

In the last FFXI census, they said it was "over 500,000", still. Obviously, this includes the players on the Xbox 360, as well as the recent push for PC players in Europe. SE has done a good job in expanding the base of people who can play, to make up for the attrition the game has seen; that doesn't help the current players of course, but it's great for their bottom line -- selling new copies of the game itself as well as the monthly fee is terrific, for any MMOG 4+ years old.

It's unlikely that they're going to grow much further, given the age of the game and lack of interest in making it "newbie friendly", but it hasn't dropped off yet. Given the promised additions in the upcoming patches, they should hold relatively solid until at least the end of the year; who knows how things will look by then.

Actually SE has been doing god-damned horrible with the EU market.

They need to let you use other systems of pay(not everyone is smart to use Visa Paycards).

If SE listened to the playerbase about its issues, and did stuff like I said, they could actually break 600 or 700 k playerbase, well, if they let players come back anytime they want. They need to start thinking out of the box. I'm sure everyone was excited at the idea of playing Tetra Master in-game. It's been 4 years, do it already. I don't care if your engine can't handle it. Make players play with giant cards and use ??? spots to place stuff. Noobies will go crazy for that. If anything is going to keep FFXI alive, its going to be how different it is from WoW, I mean that in a good way.

Might hurt them for awhile with the shear amount of RMT accounts lost, but RMT will keep on buying new games for more than monthly price is, and SE will keep on banning them. Be prideful about it, should the world you are simply owning IGE, post images of IGE's site on the webpage filled with 0 gils, with the title saying: "New additions to FFXI, IGE IS OUR BITCH".

You can tell by the max number accounts they ever had, a lot more people have tried FFXI than WoW. They need press, but only after they make it noob-friendly, endgame-friendly, and player-friendly... and gil seller-unfriendly.

PS. Make PvP more popular. People think FFXI has no PvP, because it didn't start with it. Even, now, its neglected. Instead of adding varied PvP, just make PvP worthwhile all together.

Last time I checked SOE is responsible for Everquest. So I wouldn't say they had "little experience with online MMORPG's".

Blizzard, on the other hand had little to no MMORPG experience. To best of my knowledge their only first hand experience with online communities they had was with Battle.net.

What SE needs to do to make FFXI more appealing is change it's abbreviation to something more appealing. WoW had success because when they think of it,they think "Wow,that's a crazy asian!". SE needs to change FFXI to something similiar to wow...like,for instance, "Zam". It's just an acronym, they can find something to fit the letters. Zam will be the key to success!

Oh yeah, and referring back to page one, If blizzard made a Starcraft MMO, I would quit FFXI in a heartbeat. I've been watching my roomate play WOW since the Beta and I must admit, I like the way Blizzard does things.

I burned with a rdm a few weeks ago and he refused to cure because he wanted his hMP to stay high. I asked him why his mp was so low when we had 4 Ni tanks in the pt and he said his enfeebles were hurting the msot.

So I watched the next battle and poof I saw exactly what he was casting... it went somethin g like this....

    Dia II
    Bio
    Frost
    Rasp

    Blind
    Slow
    Cure 3 random person.

Id pray for a 10% idiot population on any server.

Hahaha I remember whenever blizzard would do a maintainance in D2, we would gather in a game and we dupe the best items we got. Good times.
