The previous POL updates regarding dynamis talked about how much effort they had to put in to make 64 person dynamis a reality and made it appear that such a thing was pushing the limits of what's possible. However, Beseiged has ~10 times the people involved and they don't make it seem like they've done anything more to ensure things work properly with so many people.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike
It could be possible that the eight people in Woods stopped the invasion, probably by killing key monsters.
You pick out the general (if you believe that theory) and you have roughly 10-30 minutes before they storm the gates.
No Besieged monster is truly stronger than a scaled up exp mob, even at their high levels, they can't be any more difficult than the usual HNMs people fight.
The fact of the matter is, there isn't enough information (that I know of) on incoming Besieged mobs and what it takes to stop them to call this a bug.
Just as possible that through some relatively minor efforts, they were able to stymie the Beastman Forces enough to keep them from entering.

Exp mobs don't typically hit me for 700 damage, and I can usually do more than 1-15 damage per swing, even though I am a lolthf.
Most conveniently, the Trolls retreated not 3 seconds after this big guy was taken down. Chalk that up to whatever theory regarding beastmen generals you will.
edit: I don't think I've ever been hit for nearly that much by any HNM I've ever fought either, and I've been around.
That 696 could have also been a WS from the Troll since I've noted that during besieged a LOT of info tends to never be displayed.
Case in point, last night against Mamool Ja Savages, my 69 Blm went from full HP to 0 in one shot, no damage calculation given, no WS messages, nothing, I just died.
Talked to a few LS members who were fighting the same mob, turns out I got nailed by one of the Mamool Ja's WSes.
I normally take my Thf into those fights and there's been a few times I have pulled hate, WSes aside, I get hit for about 100-150 a shot from Trolls during Besieged. So I'm gonna have to agree that these guys are just beefed up exp mobs with severely boosted HP and Def.
You know that saying a picture is worth a thousand words? Look at that picture and tell me exactly what WS "The Troll Pezhetairoi hits Greyheim for 696" is.Originally Posted by Sashalani
I lag a lot in Besieged too. Probably more than anyone else. But I never get half of a WS line. It's always 2 lines: Line 1 "____ uses the WS", Line 2 "I take xxx damage." There is no WS by mob or player that uses the word "hits". "Hits" = Normal melee attack, not even a crit.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it would say "takes xxxx damage" if caused by a Weapon Skill, not hits xxxx for xxxx damage"
If you're taking 696 on a normal hit, I'd start wondering. I have a 75 Thf that I've taken in to many of these things, quite a few times I've pulled hate on a troll, and the ONLY time I've ever gotten hit by those kinds of numbers is on WSes and the highest I've ever gotten hit by a normal Melee from one of them is 250 on a crit.

He posted a damage number which seems off. Stated he was a thf, I'm simply giving my own experiences during Troll Besieged as a reference.
If there's a problem with that I'd like to know what it is.
. . . dot
Sashalani might not know what he's talking about, how WS's are shown in logs...
however I do too question this 700 dmg hit. When I mooch xp on my lv14 corsair, when I pull hate from spamming charm, the most I've ever been hit for is 440ish. Its also nice to note that due to the mobs attack raping my defence, their pDIF is so high that they crit me for 440ish also. I dont get hit for more than 440![]()
I didn't really pay much attention to the actual wording of the damage, so that's my fault there. I just noticed the 696 damage and my mind went to WS since that's usually the only time during besieged I see those numbers.
I've been hit by Genbu for over 700, non critical, normal attack, BLM75... I don't see what's so unbelievable about this.
That troll hits me for only 200 damage or so on my RDM in mage gear >_> I get him down to like 80-90 a hit when I try to tank shit
so wtf were you level 1 or something?
The Troll hit you so hard because of Quake Stomp. I don't know if it's a set number it adds or a multiplication but a Red Mage went from hitting my Ninja for 70 damage to hitting me once for 250 after doing it while I was helping my friend learn Diamondhide in Halvung.
Keep in mind as well that Mamool Ja also have NIN mobs. One beseiged I was fighting against a Mamool and he was repeatedly Mijin Gakuring.Originally Posted by Sashalani

Second: "Scaled up." Key word.
There are monsters that are inordinately strong or difficult to kill for their level.
Besieged mobs are generally no more complicated than an exp mob, they don't seem to require any real tactic beyond zerging the ever-loving shit out of them.
Only difference is they're really really really fuckin’ stronger, hence "Scaled up."
Mamool Ja also have Blue Mages as well. The BLU and the Wyverns can do Radiant Breath for ungodly amounts of damage. (And thank goodness that Besieged mobs are 100% immune to Silence. Hate for my A+ skill to come in handy.)Originally Posted by Credos
They can not 'repeatedly' Mijin Gakure. Each can do it once, for 4k base damage. However, as Septimus said, BLU's can do Radiant Breath and that can be done repeatedly.Originally Posted by Credos
