Elemental Temenos done with Nin Blu Blm Whm Rdm Drk. Had plenty of time for 3 item chests + win. (As per good stunner = easy avatars).
30 coins only, no /thf or thf isn't too bad?

Apollyon SE (I think) with 4. RDM WHM THF MNK. Mmmm, fun.
Pretty dumb to pop those chests, just a time waster imo... I believe some of those chests can have avatar or mobs with Kirin like unstunnable Astral Flow, being down a few peeps at the start would slow things down a bit, we usually finish the fight in about 30-35 minutes, but still, I'd prefer to have max time, just in case something were to go wrong and slow us down.Originally Posted by Kaylia
If those extras have BLM leveled, send them to East. Even if they fail the first time, at least they can gain experience with that Tower and eventually be able to farm the chip there.Originally Posted by Kaylia
When my own group started back in November/December 05, we experiment with sending smaller groups to certain areas. And we did fail a lot early on - especially since there was very little information on any of these places (I wish that ffxi wiki and those [simple is the best] maps were around back then). Once your team members become familiar with the layout and get a little experience with these areas, you'll be doing 3-chip runs consistently.
My advice: Don't be afraid to fail - especially on the Towers (North, East, West). If your people never try it, you'll always get stuck zerging these areas. I cringe whenever I see a full alliance enter SouthEast Apollyon or North Temenos.

We always take a full alliance to Ultima - mostly because everyone likes fighting it, it's about the most excitement there is in Limbus. Because of this, our Ultima fights take about 20-25 minutes. This leaves plenty of time to pop those chests. If you know how to deal with avatars in Temenos and have a full-merited Shellra V and bars, their astral flow does hit hard but won't kill anyone. Have your WHM up on the ledge ready with about -15 to -18 enmity and Curaga IV.Originally Posted by Kaylia
Our last Ultima (12/03) took 31 minutes from entering the zone to killing Ultima - and that 31 minutes included popping the three chests (which popped mobs). From my experience, fighting the mobs popped from three chests takes approximately ten minutes.
If you don't have at least 12 people or your group is still kind of new to fighting Ultima, then I would recommend against popping those chests.
Apologies for the necro bump but I'm always looking for ways to make my Limbus group more efficient.. and this caught my eye:
How did you kill so fast? The last time we did this run, it was with NIN/WAR, THF/NIN, BLM x 2, RDM, SMN, and BRD.5 Elementals dead @ 34 minutes to go. So 11 minutes to move around and kill 5 elements.
We timed out at Carby, after a wipe to Shiva. Tanking Ifrit in fire resist gear is something I wouldn't have thought of.. very interesting, considering our main NINs for Limbus have a *very* good fire resist set up.
We have Apollyons down to a science, but some Temenos runs are still a bit of a pain. Also, we have yet to do an Ultima, while the main LS's Limbus run (ours is separate) has done it a few times.. but it always seems to get really messy.
Do the chests drop chips, like the gunpods in Apollyon?
I know this thread kind of died but update on our limbus testing progress.
We beat Proto-Ultima over the weekend with 7, taking 32 minutes.

Got legs and head drops. Was a very comfortable fight throughout - only death being a pre-planned one.
That's pretty cool, didnt think you could go that low.Originally Posted by Kaeko

That's some insane luck for it to only do Physical Shield![]()
Gotta admit we were getting worried because it mana shield'd twice from 30 to 20%. Worst worst case you can just DoT kill it with a ton of sacs but it's pretty hard to pull off w/o access to tractor and draw in.
Even if the gank attempt had failed, it would just be a total toss up like our previous fights ended up and we were still able to do a good 10% taking 4-5 CBs before really wiping.
Random question, anyone know if CBB polymer(sp?) works on Ultima/omega, kinda like how mistmelt work on both Ouryu?
I have read that CCB Polymer does NOT work on Ultima and Omega.
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Central_ApollyonIt is not affected by CCB Polymer Pumps.
Doesnt work for Omega, doesnt work on Ultima (even though wiki does not have it listed on Ultima)
Why would someone want to use it anyway?
Congrats to that Ultima fight guys. Was nice to read everything you have done so far with these low numbers.
I have a question though about the earrings.
Since I have Melody Earring+1 x2 wouldn´t that almost be equal with Bat Earrings since a Bard will be in Party anyway?
You would also safe that small gil for the Blinding potions and not have to worry to use them at all.
Not familiar with the whole evasion vs. evasion skill thing. You'd basically be weighing 30 evasion vs. 12 evasion skill - no clue which is better and I haven't seen any tests on that.
Either way it's really not nearly as hard to solo tank as it probably looks - there were like 6 stunners and all the stuns last a good 2-4 seconds. It hits like a ton of bricks but really slow and elegy/slow2 never miss. The TP moves are what really makes this fight hard for the first 80% so if you just TP limit it it's quite easy.
Last 20% when in CB phase are where the difficulties start but you'd probably be ganking it at that point so tanking isn't all that important anymore.
Wanted to ping any NIN out there who solo SE Apollyon. The hours I work combined with being on the west coast has proven to be a huge blocking issue in joining a Limbus group, so I've been forced to solo when I can. I've heard of NIN soloing the 1st floor before, and while I can kill about 7/8 mobs before time's up, I have yet to beat the last normal clot let alone start on the boss. I've always gone NIN/WHM to minimize downtime from healing. Brought yag drinks for refresh. It's never really an issue with downtime between mobs, rather I just don't kill fast enough.
With that in mind, I wanted to pick the brains of NIN out there who've soloed it. Sub job selection, gear setup, any special food/drinks, their race, etc. Anything to give me more of an edge so paying the 50k fee is more beneficial than buying the coins (which is what I have been doing lately since it's cheaper to buy vs. solo.) Thanks in advance for any tips.
I'm looking for similar info as the above poster, particularly gear setup.
A friend of mine does it as NIN/THF, but Kikoku is part of his gear setup. >.>
I used to solo this on NIN/THF, and would get 10ish coins per run. I easily killed the 8 slimes, plus the clot boss, and then 1-2, maybe 3 crabs depending on my luck with some daggers.Originally Posted by Fhqwghads
I have 8 Katana merits, 4 crit merits, 4 HP merits, and max Subtle Blow, the rest is irrelevant. It doesn't really require super gear. I believe I used something similar to the following:
Main: Senjuiniriko
Sub: Fudo
Ranged: Ungur Boomerang
Head: Walahra Turban (Optical Hat before this came out)
Neck: Evasion Torque (Swapped in accuracy piece for Jin)
Ear1: Suppanomimi
Ear2: Brutal Earring (Earring doesn't matter before you get this)
Body: Koga Chainmail or Shura Togi
Hands: O.Kote or something would work, but I used Koga Tekko
Legs: Byakko's Haidate
Feet: Fuma Sune-Ate, Ninja Kyahan, Koga Kyahan, etc. Anything really.
Back: Boxer's Mantle, swap in Amemet for WS or use full time before getting Boxer's
Waist: Swift Belt
Rings: Rajas Ring & Jaeger Ring (lol)
You can't really use the HP/MP/Ability chest to your advantage for 2hr, since you die on 2hr... I never have downtime when soloing it. I usually pull the HP/MP/etc dropping one to a central pull place for the last 4 and quickly hit it if I need to for full HP. I keep a Regen drink on me the entire time, usually bringing 4 or so. Reraise too. I use sushi, I tried meat but I missed too much for my liking.
SE apol is not too hard, but I would certainly go /thf or /war even. Even then you might not be able to clear the first floor, but you will still get a lot of coinz.
I wanted to ask though- do any of you nin's have any info on doing Temenos - Northern Tower solo? I did this w/ a thf friend of mine and we ended up killing both of the war mobs (thereby getting the items chest), but it was difficult and we barely pulled it out. I was subbing war at the time.
Please advise.
A THF giving your mob TP might actually make it harder than it actually is
Not to mention stuff uses WSs less frequently when you're solo.
That was kind of Lyramion's point...Originally Posted by Waef
