Seriously, you can't compare athleticism. Unless you played pro soccer for a while, then played football for a while, you can not just throw words around about it.
Your view is one-sided anyway. Soccer isn't "nonstop action" like you say it is, not every person is running and running, every time I watch half the team is walking catching their breath. But it is very hard to do, but your argument also fails again with your "they get trained to do one thing". So the soccer players aren't all trained to be able to run long lengths of time? Or they're just superhumans? Do tell.
You can't just say football isn't athletic just because they have time in between plays. That's because it's more of a strategical game than soccer. Any idea the amount of plays and routes the players have to remember?
Football isn't about finesse, correct, but if you want to watch a sport for the "finesse" go watch figure skating you pansy ass. Football is not like soccer because football is about toughness and strength and violence. Which is what AMERICA likes to see, maybe not OTHER COUNTRIES but America likes to see that. Just because they're not running nonstop means nothing. Why don't you also try running, getting knocked down, getting up, running, knocked down, get up about 40+ times a game?
Seriously people, stop comparing the two. Make fun of baseball it's alot easier, even I agree that sport sucks.
soccer players arent running non stop...
who the fuck are you trying to bullshit ?

I'll let you say football is more strategical, but soccer involves more intelligence. Football all strategy is written down and memorized. Other than setpieces the strategy in soccer is on the fly at all times and you have to adapt to how each of your teammates work, as well as your opponent, to get a goal.
Now if football had no huddle at all times, THEN it'd be a fun sport to watch. I bet you more people watch the Super Bowl for reasons such as 1) Someone is having a party and they're going to hang out with friends 2) Commercials 3) Halftime show. A lot of people I know don't care about the game...and that's the biggest football game in the world, lol.
I played soccer from when I was like 8, in a public but slightly 'higher' league. It was the 'elite' of the public leagues, but not nearly as serious as the private teams around. I went to try out for football when I was heading into high school. People from my grade that were in the statewide championship football team and even people who had been on the team the year before were there. I ran circles around everyone there except one person: Who just so happened to be a track star in the non-football seasons lol I was so out of the league of all the 'best' football players there fitness wise it was sick. Then I got bored of repeating the same play for an hour at a time and went back to playing soccer...
This past year, the Bengals (just to name one) only used huddles maybe 2 or 3 times every game. Using no huddles are becomming more prominent because of the stratigical advantages. And just because they huddle doesnt mean anything, the second they line up the defense may be diffrent from what they expected and have to change their plan on the fly. Its not like because they use this run it will go exactlly as planned, whos to say a defensive end doesnt cut right 1 more inch or the offence slips, then it's totally up in the air and they have to change the original plan.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike

And then when your offense is stopped, you just another chance to try until you fail so many times the other team gets their chance to do some offense. Soccer is back and forth all the time and you need to be able to play both offense and defense.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
Yeah, you get more time to think about anything in the NFL and the coach gets to talk to your QB during the huddle all the time, unlike high school play...Originally Posted by Andarvi
Both types of Football are intense physical battles that are enjoyed by some.
there, arguement over.
No, this needs to go on untill tomorrow so I have something to do during work.Originally Posted by tiberion02
Though offense and defense dont normally switch during plays like soccer does, players have the ability to play both offense and defense. Even though both sides are sorta the same anyway >.> linemen have the ability to play linemen on both sides, and if it came down to it, ends and backs can switch as well.
Id enjoy a game where the kicker and QB switched places.
Then why does it always seem like it's a shock that someone plays on both the offensive and defensive line-ups? Deion and such I mean. Everyone was like omg he plays both.
Its just uncommon for a player to play both.Originally Posted by Eaglestrike

So? im pretty sure a lot of them make crappy goalies.
not necessarily
most people in soccer can play all positions, but they have one quality that makes them better at one position than another, midfielders have better ballhandling skills, strikers are fast, and so forth, but as you can see during a match, they can and will switch positions at will (well not goalies)
Umm, "real" football is not played more than soccer. Soccer ranks behind only basketball in participation in the US (and that's not including the women). I know in my area, there is no chance of playing football until you hit middleschool, whereas most kids are playing in soccer leagues at 5. You've got so many levels of participation...rec, challenge, classic, elite, ODP...football has pop warner (which is dying) and highschools. Plus, outside of Texas, football participation is decreasing dramatically at the highschool level.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
Now, on an intellectual level, American Football is alot more intellectually demanding. Soccer, for the most part, is instinctual. Either you have the touch, or you don't. It's all about situational awareness, which is something that cannot be taught. Football on the other hand, is all about preparation and studying. You should read interviews with peyton manning, and watch him go over some film. It's amazing what he picks up on, like a defending making one step too many that allows him to throw a ball in a small seem that is only open for a second. In football, the coaches actually coach, as opposed to soccer where even the best coach rarely has a real effect on the game aside from personel decisions.
Now, to why Americans haven't warmed to soccer...I think the main reason is the arbitrary nature of soccer. The fact that the best teams can lose, and it's not unexpected. An unlucky bounce, a cheap goal, and suddenly the better team is done. The same thing happens in March Madness, but in that situation, you can't point at a single mistake that causes a heavy favorite to lose, it's the overall game that they lost.
