and if noone scores, its a tie
I dont actually recall the last time an overtime went unscored, but I thought they keep going into overtimes untill it was finished, same with baseball.Originally Posted by tiberion02
Nope. Steelers had a regular season game end in a tie a few years back. Its just so easy for 1 team to score in 15 minutes it rarely happens.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
Soccer is a great sport. It is very unpredictable which teams are going to win because you will pay dearly if you made a mistake during a game. Also, it is the style how to score a goal.
Watch England vs. Ecuador. The free kick by Beckham was like wow. Beautiful.
Or Argentina vs Mexico: Most people would pick Argentina but Mexico gave them a hell of a match before being scored by a freaking gorgeious kick in OT.
Or the latest match: Italy vs Germany: Germany let their guard down at the last minute and they got owned Italy right away. ( I woke my roommate up when i started screaming and stomping the floor when Italy socred lol )
If the game happens to be tied, there is always the nerve- cracking penalty kicks fest.
I could go on and on how great soccer is but i will stop here.
Football is fun too but i only watch Superbowl. Halftime show is totally enjoyable.
In football, it's 2 overtimes then a tie. Except in the playoffs where it obviously just keeps going.Originally Posted by tiberion02
Tib, I was at that game as a matter of fact. 5 seconds left Plaxico Burress catches it on the 2 and the game ends.I started respecting the Falcons after that game.
Here's a news flash: REAL FOOTBALL FANS ARE SO DISGUSTED WITH THE HALFTIME SHOW THEY WALK OUT OF THE ROOM. OTHER PEOPLE WHO SAY "Yeah I like football" BUT WATCH 1 GAME A YEAR, LOVE THE HALFTIME SHOW. See the difference?
Your friends only watch football for those reasons... because they're like you you genius. I really doubt a hardcore soccer fan would hang out with all big football fans.
I go into withdrawl if I almost miss a Steelers game(I say almost because I haven't missed on in 5+ years). I run back to the couch, I scream at every play, and I play armchair quarterback monday morning, it's how the real fans do it.
I'm sorry, you may like the "nonstop action" as you call it, but I think watching a ball go back in forth for that damn long with no goals scored, no "amazing plays" to wow at, etc etc just plain sucks. I don't watch sports to see who can go the longest before they get bored and score a goal, sorry.
I feel a similar way about football(american) and dont see how anyone can get excited over it.
To each his own I suppose :/
OH MY GOD hardcore! Can I touch the arm of your couch?Originally Posted by Anyway

In the regular season it can end in a tie (no overtimes), but if its playoffs/super bowl, they go into overtimes, until 1st point is scored by anyone.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX

See official NFL rules on NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/fans/rules/suddendeath
One 15 min periood, sudden death. If nobody scores at the end of that period of time, a tie is awarded.
Side note: this is the NFL, *not* college. There's an entirely different system for college. Personally, I prefer the college system, but either way works. I do wish there was some way to prevent ties in the NFL, but it hasn't changed yet, why now? I believe high school probably depends on the state, but am not sure about that.
actually there are draws on soccer on games that arent that much of importance. And it's not "HAY GUYS WE ALL WIN YAY" type of thing, people get angry from drawing, they know they could've won and stuff like that, and theres always HELL OF A GOOD GAMES that end up tied 1-1 or 2-2.
On tournaments soccer doesnt allow draws on the quarter finals, if you tie, 2 overtimes, if you didnt score, penaltys. Guess you cant tie on penalys, do you?![]()
There's usually one tie a year in football(american)
Hockey and soccer probably tie once every 2-3 games![]()
btw, I love both American and 'world' football personally and watch tons of both. They are both amazing spectator sports in person and on TV if your a fan.
Not even 1 tie a year. The last one was Atlanta 34 Pittsburght 34 in 2002, and it was the first one in 5 years when it happened.Originally Posted by Tymon

And yes, Pro football overtime is the gayest shit ever because most of the time, it's the person who wins the coin toss wins the game. College gives both sides a chance which is what it should be. Throwing bullshit 3 yard passes for 70 yards to kick a field goal ftl.
college tiebreaker is impossible for the pros. It's the difference of a roster of 100+ (85 scholarships+walkons) versus a roster of 45. The pros already have too many injuries that decide seasons without adding 6 overtime games
Whether or not you enjoy a sport really depends on if you understand it. I used to hate watching baseball, but after spending a lot of time with a buddy and going to some world baseball classic games you start to understand the small things in a game that matter, and it makes it more enjoyable. I can see how soccer would be terrible to watch for someone who doesn't play or understand it, but I played soccer all my life so it's easy to know what's going on and identify a great play or a terrible play.
Same with me and baseball but living with a fanatical Red Sox fan for a year, I loved watching Sox games with him and out other buddies.Originally Posted by Denchi

lol, that happens a lot in Mexico, the Referee goes in the stadium and people go "FUCK YOU, YOUR SO SOLD" and the game hasnt even started LOL
Considering football games do not get called for rain or snow, I'd say give the motherfucking 270lb+ men who've already been running on the field for 2 hours a break and let the game end on the first score. Football is rife with strategies to avoid overtime for the health and safety of their players. Running the clock, onside kicks, two point conversions. People in the NFL hate ties just that much.Originally Posted by Anyway
Yeah sudden death is a shitty way to lose a game, but a) the fans find it exciting and b) so do the players. Not changing, ever.
