This is coming from my american government professor; 95% of the House incumbants are re-elected, 98% of the senate imcumbants are re-elected.

american politics is so chaotic that it actually creates order due to everyone pulling at each other for power. once elected to the congress you have 2 options; go with the flow of your party and get funding for re-election by the appropriations commitee, or be a rogue and be black balled and have a very short career.

this is the main reason why all these old, rich white officials dont have a grasp on whats good and whats not. they dont have to, they will get re-elected so long as they walk the walk and "act" like theyre doing something. theres very little our elections do, due to the fact that behind the bullshit theyre all sitting on the same platform. it doesnt matter who you pick, they are generally all the same (inside the structure of their political offiliation).

the only way anything gets done on the peoples end is by joining a P.A.C against/for certain issues in which they feel strongly about. the one thing congress listens to is P.A.C's (Political Action Commitee). the size of a comittee reflects its bargaining power, such as A.A.R.P (American Association of Retired People). when the social security reform bill goes through, the AARP has such weight that it stops any changes dead in their tracks.

Form or allign with a commitee that has a position which suits your needs best, thats about the best way you can ever actually hope to block congress from changing certain aspects of your life.

The sad thing is... every single country in the world are the same...

I mean, you can have whatever political system in a country, the result is the same... we're leaded by idiots who dont give (and dont know) a shit to their country...

    Look at Europe:
In France, we have a President since now 11 years (one left, and let's hope no one re-vote for him next year...) a.k.a Jacques Chirac. IN the USA, its 4 years x2 maximum. Here, it was 7 years how many times you can be re-elected. Its been changed to 5, but whatever, you can still be re-elected as many times as you can. Our President is as fun as Mr. Bush, but never realy talk on T.V., which Bush does perfectly (I mean in a funny way).
In Italy, President is a thief, a cheater, and a bastard.
In USSR (yea I know its not in EU, but whatever), Viktor Iouchtchenko has been poisoned by the ex-President, Vladimir Puttin's...

Im really not a fan of America, but before you bitch another country, maybe look at yours (not saying this to the person I've quoted, but to the other guy bitching at America)

Someone needs to tell that senator that if his internet tubes are clogged up with other people's downloads, he needs to dump some draino into his computer. It works on hair clogs and mp3s.

I expect an awesome Penny Arcade strip about this in the near future.
