Only time I've ever seen/heard of a GM actually being of use was when someone in my LS got ripped on a V-Claw for SH trade cuz they wanted to HQ. GM got him his SH back and traded someone for a claw and next synth was HQed.

The only "stealing" incidents that I have ever heard of that were rectified by GMs are those that can be definitively traced back to an act of in game deception. I have yet to hear or see a GM do anything for a hacked or shared account person. A dear friend had her account stolen and lost everything but the ex gear she had. Another aquaintance had everything she owned stolen and sold and all her ex gear dropped except for the AF that happened to be in the NPC. Both times the GM's were sympathetic but thats as far as it went. While it may be in SE/SCE's best interest to do something about these things they just wont. GM's as we all know are completely impotent to do anything but move you if you are stuck or deal with bad language complaints. Basically, you have three choices. #1) Quit because all you had is gone and it would take you forever to reaquire it. #2) Accept the loss and try to rebuild yourself up just to spite whoever got you this time. or #3) Sit and bitch and whine that you lost everything and hope someone will give you your stuff back.

Usually the only time GMs will do something is if you get "scammed" in a trade (like trading an item for 3 mil when you agreed to sell for 30 mil, and then the buyer refusing to pay up the additional 27)

Yes a ls mate of mine did get hacked (kinda) reported to a GM, and they were able to replace the funds for the items he lost. Turns out his friend asked his mom for the installation book and she gave it to him. The gm knew nothing of this but a few days after the incident he received a /t from the gm that the issue has been dealt with and he got the money back in his inventory.

A friend of mine had -everything- stolen, Strider's and 20M included, and he got the GMs to do something. I'm not sure how it was stolen or anything, but they checked who all the stuff was sent to and jailed them both to deal with it the next time they were on. He got everything back, everything.

Send me a PM and I can try and ask him what exactly he did to get them to fix it.

Someone on my server got a Kraken club retrieved once. GM tracked down the people who stole it, and got it back.

The crappy part is, the person who owned that kraken club is a fag who deserved getting that shit stolen.

What actually happened was, I think, he lent the club to someone, then that person sent it to someone else. When he asked for club back, the person said he never had it... Club got sent around to like 5 different people, and the last person didn't know it was stolen. (I think? Don't know full story) GM ended up busting all of them and got the club back.

What stops a PHPBB2 or w/e admin from altering the login/registration/change password pages to also stored an unencrypted password somewhere else?

I have never looked at the PHPBB code but it would be as simple as..

alter table users add column realpassword text;

Than look for the php code and and make it say like.. insert into users (blah, password, realpassword, blah) values (blah, md5($password), $password)

It can be done, Ive known atleast 1 phpbb forum that had passwords in plain text. Hell, when I had made a UT2K3 forum long ago, there was code to have plain text passwords on the offical PHPBB forums.

Ah, boo. Someone from my server (Kujata) got their KC stolen, Vicente, and got it back. I dont care however the fuck he got it stolen but he deserved it because he's the worlds biggest dick.
