I used to think the same and I probably wouldn't do it myself, but I do understand why people do it after actually seeing it in action myself a good amount of times.
15 Attack and 3 STR is great, but when you're wearing some of the best gear in the game to go with it, not having that 15 attack and 3 STR will never make or break you. It won't make a really noticeable difference if much at all.
On the other hand, as one of the more powerful DDs in a PT I'm sure that anyone who can relate to being in that position dislikes becomming any sort of an MP sink, and would like to do anything to get away from the often unavoidable situations where you take heavy damage and/or die (especially on those damn wyverns). I've seen Shadow Mantle proc both often enough to save a good amount of MP and often enough to save the user from death on multiple occasions, as uncommon as it really does proc it does make a difference at times (with the exception of some flukes, which I think Stan was experiencing).
So yeah, I can understand both sides... Personally I would most likely stick with Forager's full time, and the only time I may use Shadow Mantle if ever would be in my 'oh shit' macro (bunch of defense gear for when I know I'll take heavy damage). I rarely use that macro in exp though, dislike blinking more than I already do.![]()
Rushing Drab is a multi-hit ws, it's possible that the mantle proced on only one hit, so you'll still take damage. When I exp on mamools I only get hit a few times after rushing drab strips me of shadows.Originally Posted by Stanislav

Yes, I'm still in assmode.
Considering he was attentive to his Proc rate during Prudence, and posting about it here, I would have to say he was testing it. That would *obviously* be the reason why he would do such a thing in an exp PT. It just takes a bit of intelligence to come to that conclusion.

repeating of course.
Yes, but there still are people that wear it full time, and there are posts here that frown upon the idea anyone that would do such a thing.
Get where I'm coming from?
I have had a shadow mantle for over a year now, and a shadow ring for around 9-10 months. My 1st tests seemed to show 10% as well. I allowed myself to get hit for hours by ep mobs. The average in the logs were about 1 in 10 hits were zero. Though it is far from reliable. I have had the proc go off 3 times in a row, than never seen a proc in hours. Same with the ring.
I know where you are coming from, but on a topic that is clearly about running numbers its irrelative. People quoting that over and over come off unintelligent.
Edit - I was first person on my server to have, not 1, but 2 before anyone else. The numbers I get are usually a lot higher than what everyone else has posted. I suppose good luck.
My response was directed towards the people that think/thought that it's ridiculous to use it in exp.
I think its ridiculous to use...
Utsusemi essentially negates damage, just like Mantle does. If Utsusemi absorbed shadows at a proc rate of 5-10%, would you use it it ??
Worst. Comparison. Ever.Originally Posted by NynJa

It's basically a D.Ring for your back. Hell, I'll take the one that's supposed to go to you if you ever manage to brainwash people into letting you get one.
I hate agreeing with Maxx but... yeah.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus

Its hard to argue against High Breathe Mantle for something like Pld/nin, but pld/war (for pulling) on things like Nidhogg Shadow Mantle is for sure the best/worth it.
Edit- Just read that pitiful comparison. If an item gave you an extra shadow to use, would you use it? Yes.
current topic is XP, not HNM's that have great 1shot potential.Originally Posted by Weltall

Sorry, I guess I never recieved the memo where offsetting damage is actually crucial in a merit party. Can someone, preferably Maxx, forward that to me. Thanks.
How can you tell me that you'd wear a Shadow Mantle in XP, yet use Berserk? Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but the extra damage you take due to Berserk raping your defence will easily out do the negation from a 5-10% Shadow Mantle proc rate, would it not ?
mantle is great, ive had mine proc on everything. Sometimes it proc's sometimes it doesnt.
its not like im going to say no thx shadow mantle sux can i have ring plz when LS tells me to lot it.
and none of you doof's, who say its a shitty item, would either you would all welcome it with open arms.
for chist sakes its basically a defending ring on your back when the dust settles and you break out the parses on dmg taken.
