Ballista seems popular enough on asura. Dunno what you're going on about.
It is quite different from other things in FF. I thought the cookie cutter way to play mnk was to sub sam and use asuran fists on blinkers though?

Nobody's ever at ballista on my time. Only saviour, and i'd rather try inserting a watermelon through my penis than play with saviour on either team.

FFXI PvP would really need a lot of low-level work for it to be enjoyable, IMO. I'm not really talking about stuff like rule changes to the Ballista etc, but rather heavy changes to the game mechanics themselves. I'm going to hold up Blizzard's PvP system in that MMO they made as an example of what makes PvP fun -- every class has to manage their cooldowns, crowd control skills, and counter-abilities properly to really excel. FFXI is kind of lacking in this--it always feels like I'm playing a game of Magic: the Gathering with only two or three different cards in the deck. In (Blizzard's MMO), every class has a few aces up their sleeve, which makes the flow of battle much more dynamic. In FFXI, the correct tactic is either A) Recast Utsusemi, or B) Cast Sleepga to clear Utsusemi.

While I disagree with your example (WoW PvP is flawed in some aspects, much more preferential to DAoC), I do agree that FFXI's PvP would need some fundamental changes for it to be more inviting to anyone not using the standard fare.

I've played ballista hmm, twice, and each time there were less than a dozen people. Kinda curbed my enthusiasm.

I play on JP time. You know, the time that everyone's holy race of people do everything? Hardly anyone turns up. After going to cancelled match after cancelled match, both lvl60 and uncapped, I just said "Fuckit", not wasting my time anymore, and stopped going.

Occasionally i'll do a /sea all Ballista and see the handful of people who'll turn up. I dont bother if there's 4 - 5 people there.

pre ballista ws nerf. mnk/sam is a very good combo.

only pussies play the 'out of range' and run away game on Siren. There's a lot of organization possible with a veteran team, which is what you mostly get during our ballista matches. There's a lot of gangraping going on but as long as you play the numbers game the attrition generally turns to the favor of the more experienced team.

Brenner's schedule is too gay to be bothered, at least ballista happens every other hour.

No, I refuse to play with saviour, all saviour does is run away when his HP goes even a hint of orange/yellow. FFXI PVP is for pussies, you get rewarded for running away rather than for killing.

I like some of the JP Ballisters on Bahamut ;x lotsa fun cause they dont pussy out and run away~ however, I primarly play Ballista in JP time so idk many NA Ballista players >_>;

Only the JP's play Ballista on my server, NA's never play and when they do, they're horrible. So many NA's cry when you kill them in PvP it's sad...lol

Doesn't hitosi and such play ballista on occaision? I seem to recall quite a few jps playing around winter break when I decided to give it a try. I gotta admit, since the multihit thing I haven't really touched ballista or brenner much. Mostly because people that play ballista in my LS play it at odd times that don't match with my playtime.

If you want people to love you in ballista ( aka not run away ) I believe Smn is the job to play... if I recall correctly. ^^
