Yes, fine, OK. But as I said in the post above, those things really did happen.

My melee: Was I hitting as much for as much as I said I was? Yes. Is that any good? Not really. Was that THF really gimp? Yeah. Though there shoulda been a lot more THF hits in there than I listed.

I botched the whole thing, I'll admit it. I was just screwing around having some fun when I saw how weak those mobs were. I honestly had a little hope that if I had a 71 dmg weapon with +20 acc, it would be a little different than a 55 dmg weapon with no stats. I still want the claustrum, and I'm still going to finish it. Because I can, even if it dosent work miracles (which it doesnt).

Sorry I'm so late on this, but I wanted to make sure I read everything before replying and it was an effing monsterous thread coming in only like 3 days after start T_T. I also then had to go back and find quote I was looking for.

My question to people still tormenting the melee SMN: why in Christ's name are you still even speaking to someone who wrote like 20 pages ago that the party where they whipped out their staff and engaged was the first one they got 10k/hr in?

Ok, I got 75 on my first job (BRD) all of a month ago, I have yet to even see a peice of my AF2 drop, been to sky for farming/Gods all of twice, etc. By no means do I have half the experience of most of the people posting here regularly. But FFS, I saw 10k/hr on crawlers in Mt. Zhalyom at around level 67. 10k an hour was easily doable in old zones with a good setup (I'm told/have seen screenies and parses), and ToAU makes getting fast merits a joke. Three melee, tank, two mages could do it, hell, a three mage two melee and tank SC party could probably do it.

Now, being new to 75 (and being a BRD :3), merit whoring is kind of my speciality, I generally aim for 14k/hr min. when crowding isn't a major problem. But really, you'd think that someone with full AF2 and almost a relic weapon would have seen 10k/hr ONCE. 10k/hr is (apparently) so easy that EVEN a pt on puks onry with a melee SMN can do it.

Guess what, Herr Melee SMN? Anyone with an optimal melee burn job leveled spits on your 10k an hour, even a new 75 like me. I only even pull puks anymore because they're between me and the sweet, luscious, 225-250 exp mamools, and they help keep chain because they pop 2x as fast. As has already been pointed out, puks are appetizers to most merit parties, and even on them the minimal damage your melee attacks do will almost certainly be completely negated by the damage the real melee who are blinded/blown back by mob TP moves YOU caused will NOT do.

Oh, but I forgot, those parties aren't fun! Why the fuck not? Because they have high exp output? We must have different definitions of fun; *I* have fun when I have 3 mobs sleeping and I'm watching 3-4 heavily buffed and well-geared WAR/MNK/NINs burning them down so quickly that I have to go fetch more already to keep the chain. I have fun when I get 7 merits in one party, and watch my lsmate who I invite go from 73 to 75 and have to go back to town to switch to merits (Done it twice now).

You're the exact kind of person who pisses me off, who LIKES those boring-shit parties where I spend half the time trying to sort out the jackass melee such that the people who want ballad get it and those who dont want it dont, and the other half sitting on my ass because the PLD holds such good hate off the DRG and the PUP that he's the only one who ever needs curing, so I dont need my effing expensive mp merits and vermy at all. But of course there's no point in pulling early because they're gonna be so long on that mob that the DRG will get to do his 1337sauce SATA wheeling thrust two times (second time TA only since the PLD has built so much hate the PUP cant turn it).

It's always great when people say these parties with 'weird' (read: crappy) setups are so much more 'fun' than real parties, and bitch about how princess BRDs are always too elitist to come play with them and drag down that awesome 6k/hr limit points. GUESS WHAT YOU FUCKTARD: YOU MELEEING ON YOUR FUCKING GALKA SUMMONER IS ONLY FUN FOR YOU. For me? I have the most fun in this game (exp-wise) when I'm pulling for my beloved tp burns and racking up the sweet, sweet merits. Accomplishment is fun. Incredible exp rates through use of multiple high-damage jobs with blink-tank ability and minimal support-class characters is fun. But I don't care how 'non normal' and 'outside the box' your fucking melee smn is; it is not fun.

If you made it through that, here's your reward: I think you can go melee in dynamis and limbus and solo and dicking around with friends and sky/sea farming all you want, and I think it's silly to say that you getting your relic under your own power is anything but a pretty impressive accomplishment (and if you really did solo all those coins then your ls's performance is not an issue worth consiering in this matter). Congratulations. But to say that your SMN meleeing is a viable tactic for meripo pts when you've never pulled more than 10k/hr without doing so? Bitch please.

Really good summoners could stand in for whm in KRT. Wouldn't expect to exceed 12k/hr tho; you really had to have everything working perfectly to get 15k+

NOBODY should ever sub thf in a burn pt, and it's not possible to get 10k outside of a burn pt, so lets not concern ourselves with that. I'm not saying drg is amazing (and fyi if you have sword merits and an actual dd build pld/nin outperforms a lot of jobs) but, it's not in a leage with puppetmaste, meleing smns and tanking rdm/wars.

Agreed, they're probably the least gimpy of the jobs in that imaginary horror party. They probably do really well in ToAU, I think most mob types squishy vs. piercing, but on my server there are few enough BRDs that I have Osode-wearin MNKs and WARs lining up before I can put together a search comment, so I havent had to fall back on second and third tier DDs very much . I actually want to give PLD/NIN a shot in DD/Tank roll, if they can keep up damage decently and NOT get one-shotted by rushing drub when their shadows go down they'll be right on par with NINs in my eyes.

I should be more clear: the vast majority of people who are not themselves melee summoners do not enjoy limit parties where the summoners melee. They think they are slow and boring and are shamed when they have to watch some newbs in cardinal vests pulling more and faster than they are. As I said at the end, you're welcome to have your fun with your relic anywhere you like, so long as you arent dragging innocent strangers with you.

YOu have to think of a pld/nin in a burn pt along the lines of a axe/axe war/nin, a decent to high level DD that will tank part of the time, only the kicker the pld can help heal.
