There might be some sort of check as to whether or not you lose your pet I guess, but after sic'ing Trackers on Corses waiting for Citipati, and afterwards fighting him, I have never seen it work. Also had one tanking Xolotl while a thf ran around the pets while waiting for back up, and he used Dance Macbra atleast twice, to no avail. It's like when the Merrow/Lamia try to Torrent your pet, 'It has no effect.'

recast is 60. duration is 30, with instruments is 34 max. if it's 1 minute duration, the song wouldn't suck so bad.

colibris apparently can store spells cast on them

my little brother was exp'ing on them on his bst, and one casted stun on him as bst/nin

assuming that his leeches werent stunning them (lol) and he certainly had no stun axes, the colibri had stored the spell, maybe from a previous encounter from a blm who died and HP'ed before the spell was casted back

but then again, maybe thats not what happened, and colibri are just fucking crazy lol
They do store the spells. They would become charmed, then recast Virelai later. Supposedly, if you Virelai them, then log out, they'll store it until a player attacks them. If Lessers did this, and you could store virelai on one where level 50's are xping, it would lead to some hilarity. :D

The best would be storing 5 charms on it. Charms all of the party except one poor noob lol

Most people have blinks at that level, but I bet a few stored thundaga 3 would deck an entire party, or at least 1-shot the silly taru ninjas!

God this thread wins. I'm at work so I can't test this out but has anyone tried casting on colibri and having a bst immediatly charm it then release? Would the spell be stored? I want mpk to return damnit!.

<grin> I'll go give it a shot on my BRD/BST after work if no one else does before that. Curious if a real charm (not Virelai) would reset the "spell storage," or if that would be the way to get it to store multiple castings, since it wouldn't have a chance to cast them back at you.

There's a delay of about 4 seconds after the spell lands, where it does this weird animation, and then starts casting the spell back. It seems to be instant cast-back, I remember trying with Freeze on BLM/NIN when I was bored one day.

I wonder how long they store the spell.

Turning the entire level 60 Colibiri pack into a bunch of ticking time-bombs for the next poor lolDRG to solo there while seeking PT would probably make my year.

You can also get the Uggalepih Whistle from 3rd maps ??? and pop Sarcificial Goblet, sound agro, cast AM + ga3s.
Now if the person you want to mpk is in a party they can most likly deal with one of these NMs but you get 2 or all 3 and they will be fucked unless they are very good players

I'm about 90% sure they don't store abilities. Just spells.

Would be fun to have 6/Bst spam charm. ;D

You misunderstood me. An example would be Blackmage thunderga3 the colibri, immediately after it lands, the BST charms it before it can "reflect" the spell. Bst sends it off its merry way and waits for an unsuspecting puller. Now does the stored spell still exist or is it reset due to charm?

Man, Colibri are a very interesting.

I suited up BRD/BST, and went out to play with the ones in Bhaflau.

    First test
    Virelai on Colibri
    Charm wears
Colibri does it's little animation right away
    Colibri charms me

    Second test
    Virelai on Colibri
    Charm wears
    Charm on Colibri
Command it to attack a Tiger.
The Colibri flies over to a Tiger, and then just follows him around. No attacking. No Casting.
    Heel
Command it to attack a Marid
Same result, follows the Marid around, still not agroing it, and not casting anything.
I Leave, and then poke it with my staff.
It Casts Virelai, I get charmed.

    More testing!

    Third Test
I noticed that in the time between using Leave, and poking it with my staff, the Colibri looked different when at rest.
Here's a normal Colibri at rest.

    http://ffxi.high-velocity.net/normal.jpg

    Closed Beak.

Here's what it looked like after I cast a spell, charmed it before it could cast back, and then released.

    http://ffxi.high-velocity.net/store.jpg

The beak is open! And his tongue flops around. He actually flies around with the beak closed, but when stationary, he has an open beak.

I waited awhile, and then poked it with my staff.

    Instant charm.

    Fourth Test
    I Horde Lullaby the Colibri
While it's sleeping, I cast a # of threnodies on it, an Elegy, and then Charmed it. Used Leave, and waited.
A good 20 minutes later, a BST XPing in the area sics a leech on it.
The Colibri immediatelly pops off Horde Lullaby, followed by Carnage Elegy, and then a Light Threnody.
This wasn't the order I cast them in, and this also wasn't every spell I cast.
After the Light Threnody, the Colibri closed it's beak, and didn't cast anything else.

I'm still bored, anyone have suggestions for tests I could try?

    --Edit--
    Fifth test.
    Elegy a Colibri
    Charm before the animation.
    Beak is closed.
Command it to attack a tiger.
Colibri beats the tiger into the ground without casting anything.

    Sixth Test
    Foe Lullaby a Colibri
It falls asleep, and does the animation.
    Beak opens.
Carnage Elegy, Light Threnody, Foe Requiem IV.
Try to charm after the Requiem, Charm fails.
Colibri casts Foe Lullaby on me
    I fall asleep
Hits me, wakes me up, I use Tame
    Colibri goes unaggro
    Beak still open
    I Charm, and fail again.
    Colibri Foe Requiem VI.
    I Charm, and succeed.
    Beak is still open.
    Send it after a Tiger.
Beak stays open the whole time, but dosen't cast any other songs.

    Option #1:
Bring a RDM and load it up with Silence, Horde Lullaby, Slow, and Carnage Elegy.

    Option #2:
Bring a BLM and stack on a Horde Lullaby, Lightning Threnody, Thundaga III combo.

    Option #3:
Bring a BLU and see if it can imitate Radiant Breath, Bad Breath, and 1000 Needles. Should be an interesting opening combo on pull.

    Option #4:
    All of the above.

Alternatively, instead of setting traps, you could test to see if Colibris can reflect each other. Load a Colibri up with a few spells, charm/release, then charm another Colibri and have it attack the one you just released. The one you just released should open up with spells aimed at your Colibri pet. Will it reflect them back? Will both of them keep reflecting back and forth?

Did you note the animation he did after each song you sang on it (not all have it)? I posted this earlier, you can tell which he's going to repeat. It makes a sound too.

Another test. Grab a Colibri and use a few debilitating AoE spells on it (horde lullaby, thundaga III, sleepga II, whatever) then charm it. Tote it around with you until you find some unsuspecting xp PT. Then Leave -> Lullaby before it can depop. CFH on it before it wakes up, and stay standing on the other PT.

Or, bring 5 BSTs and 1 BLM. Gather 5 Colibri, then BLM Sleepga II then Thundaga III. The 5 BSTs charm each Colibri, then brings them to an xp PT to Leave->Horde Lullaby->CFH.
