Yes, at least close enough to engage, no.

Maybe it checks what mob you are engaged to. Someone go break a latent by TPing on an EP and WSing too-weaks using /ws "blah" <st>?
Moonlight is a WS you know, meaning Weapon Skill. It is not Refresh. You need to be actually engaging a monster to use it. You cant just pop an Icarius Wing, and use it on yourself...Originally Posted by Ryko

are you stupid? you break latent by using ws, moon light is a weapon skill, 1+1 = 2 now stfu
lol at newb calling ryko stupid.

Are you just trying to figure out if you could break any weapon on anything regardless if it's giving exp at the time or not?
Yes <_< I'm likely overthinking this, no one ever said I wasn't but like I said to the people going "omg it's a WS duh duh duh" the question wasn't whether or not moonlight was a WS but rather whether or not had to be while engaged to an EP or higher to count.
silly Ryko you should know this by now.Originally Posted by Ryko
And to answer your question it's no. The mob you are fighting and using said ws on must give exp to you at your level.
We had a DRG in my social that was dumb as bricks. We used to play pranks on him all the time. We told him he could go farm spiders webs and break it on the too weak spiders. He spent some 3 days breaking it before we finnally let him in on the secret.
We did feel pity on him though and made a pty to go break it. It still took 60 lvl 5s to break his weapon.
But curious, why would you want to break weapons on too weak? 300 ws takes so long compared to a few hours just lvl 5ing it and breaking it.
*Edit* you ninja edited too![]()
Just wanted to make sure you weren't just specifically relating to just moonlight, or if infact you meant "all" ws.
As for moonlight and any mob.... there might be exceptions but I doubt it.
I ended up soloing a majority of ku, evis, emp arrow and black halo just out of boredom and using a kraken mostly. But thanks for the answer, I likely am just overthinking it. Moonlight probably counts your engaged mob as the target even if it technically targets yourself or something... maybe maxx's answer is the right one.
You poor soul... why?Originally Posted by Ryko
Although thats how I broke decimation ( at least the majority )
I really had nothing better to do with my time for a stretch of 3-4 days so I decided if I can get every non-relic WS I might as well do it, broke the aforementioned skills back to back. I'm 30 shield (go go hitting 75PLD with 176 shield skill ._.) and 120 staff points away from a full capped WAR combat menu and getting my last WS to get all of them.
haha yeah I know your story, from a melee standpoint I almost look for your posts exclusivelyOriginally Posted by Ryko
I personally loved leveling my pld on plisk. I didn't get Spirit taker on pld till i was almost 69 and I regret not having it sooner. While the dmg can be random sometimes (missing or doing 0 ) Hitting the mob for 150-160 and getting 150-160 mp back is <3
That's actually really nice to know, I do most of my WS breaking solo but wasn't sure if Moon/Starlight counted so I've been doing shitty True Strikes as PLD/RDM. (WAR/NIN True Strike otoh is actually not that bad.)
I think if it was a translation error it most likely would've been fixed or known by now. I know quite a few people that understand JP and speak english well, and they point out little mistranslations like that all of the time. It would be very unlikely that after all this time no one picked up on it, although this is only assuming if it was a mistranslation. I could see SE just plain using bad wording for both JP and NA as a possibility, not like they haven't done that several before. :\
Either way, as cold cut as the answer may seem to some, I wouldn't really entirely rule it out as a possibility yet, as unlikely as it may seem.
Another interesting aspect of this is how the whole WS point system is based off of matching the elemental attributes of your WS with another WS, where doing this and forming certain level SCs will earn you a certain amount of points. But then you have a WS like Moonlight with no elemental properties at all that still can give you points, before now I was always under the impression it didn't.
Well I know for a fact that I broke staff doing spirit taker, and come to think of it sword doing spirits (on capricious cassie lol+20hp on sword of trials), but both of those do damage and return TP, Star/Moonlight do not and return 0.
I broke latent on club fighting a too weak and using starlight. So, I'd guess it considers <me> as the even-match target.
I'm at 225.... so dang slow...Nothing left but scythe, which is at lvl112 atm ^_^
I made 40mil leveling scythe :/ It took 2 months and many many lizards in ifrits.
