Possibly a fire spell to seal the defeated head to ensure it doesn't grow back? That'd be very kewl.

One problem, in Mythology one Hydra head was invincible and the last head was stuffed under a huge rock so he couldn't move. Hydra really was never defeated, will the FFXI Hydra ever be defeated?
Very interesting, perhaps the Algol will be the first and last weapon it gets to see before it goes down.

Big enough sword to do the job, with an additional Fire damage effect to singe the necks from reforming. Triple Attack as well.

Speculation is always a fun and creative thing.

I can see the heads dying off as the monster's hp drops but I'm not entirely sure how he'll regrow them. Maybe if the Hydra gets the chance to regrow both lost heads after they've been killed he'll go into a rage mode and start reaming everything that moves.

Sorta. Fire burned it skin shut where a head was chopped off preventing two new heads from growing in its place.

Ah, not a bad idea, this would be especially valid if Hydra turns out to be Cerberus HQ, but I highly doubt it. SE isn't that mean to make a new HNM an HQ of an NM that already pops no more than once every few days.

Ah, this thought never occured to me or 99% of the board it seems. Another very valid speculation and a much more realistic one at that. I can see this being the true way Hydra will work. As it's HP goes down it's heads start to fall off. Although, it is more fun to hop that each head is individually targetable.

Hmmm, this thought just happened to pop into my head. Perhaps to avoid the 3 different linkshells having claim on this guy, each head will be targetable but claim on all 3 heads will be shared. So that if you get hate on the "Hydra" or one of it's heads, so to speak, you get claim on all 3.

Then how will hate work? All three heads on one person, plds ftw?

The animations from model viewer only shows the middle head attacking. I'm sure when the HP of the dragon get's to a certin point one of the heads just dies off for show (kicks and giggles).

Honestly this .dat could be incomplete still and have some differences when SE finally releases Hydra into the game. The biggest things that don't add up are that the heads seem to die off but when the mob falls to the ground all 3 heads are present, it would look pretty sloppy if people were fighting this mob and 2 of the 3 heads were down and as it dies the 2 just pop right back up for the fall.

Also the attacking animation does only show the middle head doing anything so right now multiple targets on this mob doesn't seem to be happening, not to mention how SE can't seem to code you to have claim on two things that share the same target and hate even in a bc (ie eald'narche and his exoplates). How strong he is might be linked to how many heads are up though, a varying strength that doesn't follow a completely set pattern could be good if they do it right.

Is there a way in modelviewer to find if the outer heads are actually separate items from the main body/middle head?

    noooo <.<
Some lady named baby ruth said it to me <3

Anyway, to clarify my question above:
What I mean to ask is, if the 2 outer heads exist independantly in any way, is there a way to find out? That could help determine whether they each have their own ai, attack patterns, hp, etc.

I predict that head loss is HP based, but it can get HP back either via TP move, Magic, or high Regen and so gains heads back over time. If its not a mission fight, then they would HAVE to have something give the heads back, I mean, what if someone wipes to it after killing 1-2 heads... can't just have it sitting around with only 1 head...

Or, maybe the heads growing back are only when it loses all hate, or regens to full or something.

I really hope algol is the only way to kill this thing. But if we have servers where people hog cerb and force others to buy algols, that'd be a problem.

Something like Algol WS right after a head falls, that can singe it or something.

Bad thing: Its hogged by a LS
Good thing: I'm cool with the LS
Bad thing: They are giving it to war and pld now
