I couldn't stun Omega on BLU main. ._. Don't think I ever missed, but the added effect didn't proc even once. Safe to say I'll only be doing this as BLM from now on.

Another point not brought up yet:

    Poison 2 = 10hp/tick
    Disseverment's poison 16hp/tick

For ultima, let's assume 30 minutes of actual fighting.

    Poison 2 = 10hp/3 seconds x 20 x 30 =6000
    Disseverment = 16hp/3 seconds x 20 x 30 = 9600

And I had disseverment do some good #'s too. Not as good as saca Vertical Cleave but good enough.

I had a friend send me a tell in game asking me to justify blu vs ultima. He said his ls wanted him to go as whm instead. Not cause they really really needed him as whm either. I gave him some #'s and he tried to beat them with the logic stick but apparently they just went "lolblu". Sad.

    Re: BLU in central limbus

apologies for the necro-bump, but didnt really want to start a new topic.

I just wanted some opinions on BLU/THF vs BLU/NIN for Ultima from those who have used either jobs for it. I used BLU/THF only once before but was so long ago and too much of everything else went wrong to really justify a proper opinion.

We are about to attempt one with fairly low numbers and want to give us our best chance.I'm leaning on BLU/THF (x2) since we could use as much damage as we can.

thought this topic would be a good place for this Question.

    Thanks

I've done Ultima as BLU/NIN before, mainly because shadows stop that one whirl move that is rather annoying. Equalizer I think. Anyway, my melee did just about dick, and Head Butt was landing for 0-10 damage. The additional stun effect was landing alot, but for a very reduced amount of time. Like 0.5 seconds instead of the 2-3 seconds you'd expect. The tank was appreciative, as by spamming Head Butt as fast as possible I got lucky and naturally stopped one or two TP moves by accident, but all in all I felt very ineffective and mostly a drain on our RDM.

I'd think BLU/THF would be a better combination in terms of damage, especially if you have a good Cannonball build. But the main thing that I remember was that the stun duration of Head Butt basically moved it from the realm of "controlling the mob's actions" to "asking it rather nicely to please stop what it's doing".

Proto-omega and ultima are just about the only events I don't bring blu to, that should tell you something lol.

    Re: BLU in central limbus

People just are idiots and dont know what they talk about and exaggerate things like that DRK/BLU post makes it sound.

Sub BLU was in no way nerfed. I tried WHM/BLU really soon after ToAU came out. To hit headbutt it all depends on your ACC which can of course be good on any job. BUT the ADD effects are dermited by your actual BLU skill.

So actually stunning anything as 75 is like trying to charm things as 37 BST sub - it can work but its hard. SA seems to make the ADD effect land 100% tho. Thats why a THF/BLU can stun everything he wants if he combines them - for example Meteor.

Dunno about Omega but I don't know why you would not bring BLU to Ultima - Headbutt makes the fight more of a joke than it already is, and SA spells do very good damage.

Thanks Delekii you answered my question then BLU/THF it is!
another quick question is Lowing used to be an awesome spell for Yovra fighting but then SE broke it and didn't seem to do shit anymore.. anyone know if this is still the case? Planning my Spell set for Ultima and trying to decide wether to include Lowing or not

We always have a Blu in the tank party for diamondhide/mild cures. Blu is also good for damaging both forms on Omega(I'd assume Ultima too but I haven't seen Blu there).

    BLU/NIN for Omega (HUME)
Gears : HP Set, HP food, 8 HP merit ~ 1500ish

Opening with 300 TP Spirit Within ~ 700 damage
Switch to Heat Breath mode with Vulcan's staff and 18 M.Acc/HP/Haste gear = 600-700 damage each breath.
    Convergence for 700-800
Breath cooldown ~ 36 seconds so it's really spammable.

Utsu up for your own survival, you will pull a shit load of hate from tank.

At 1500-1600 hp heat breath is only going to hit proto-omega for like 500-550 in magic weakness form.

    Re: BLU in central limbus

Just some further notes, for Ultima make sure you head butt in AF body. I know it seems like common sense but sometimes you get use to your 99% stun with AJ/Homam Body that you forget you need that skill for higher level mobs. My head butt is about 95% reliable on Ultima but usually we set me to spam head butt every time it's up and save BLM stun to focus on certain WSs. This helps slow Ultima down for tanks overall and 70% of the time I catch the WSs anyways. But then again I have a 5.5-6 sec recast on my headbutt.

For Omega head butt does not seem to stun hardly at all. I wouldn't even recommend getting in range to try it. I have tried breaths but never got good results, but then again I don't have a Vulcan's yet (gimp I know I know). I usually just Diamondhide tanks and SA Cannonballs in Melee form.

I don't get good accuracy with max blue skill/magic acc and vulcan's either, maybe like 65% accuracy without convergence? Frost breath is much more accurate on him thou.

    Re: BLU in central limbus

One thing I've done when we fought Ultima was be the backup tank, in addition to headbutt spam. I rarely took hate from the NIN, but he did drop at one point so I had to keep him occupied BLU/NIN. Kept hate by just spamming headbutt, occasional disseverments, a couple Magic Fruits, Jettatura and Exuviation. Had Emnity +21 and used Dorado Sushi and my MP lasted just long enough for the NIN to get back in.

Not really all that useful to tank BLU/NIN, but was definitely fun and a nice change of pace.
