1-2 BLM "probably won't notice a difference" in a party of 6. Well last I checked when a BLM solos they don't do at least 50% of their damage via melee. In other words, a solo BLM probably WILL notice a difference. Of course if a BLM is going to notice it, a RDM is going to be fucked right up the ass. I can't wait. Not only will each relic weapon extra damage hit probably count, but I'm betting so will EN spells and spikes.

In case you didn't notice, people love to whine in these forums. Instead of saying 'hey my LS is good enough and enough of our BLMs have other jobs we should be fine' people freak out.
I whine because they made the nerf since BLM can dominate everything. But instead of all jobs now getting an equal share, the player base will now just move on to the next job that can dominate most things. SMN

They need to promote job diversity. A nerf does not do that. Giving incentives to have different jobs in an alliance will. Bonus dmg from skillchains, MBs, make NMs weaker when you have 8 different jobs in an alliance. Nerfing one job just makes people not do that one job and just move on to the next most useful one.
    i totally agree with Jan
before blm was the craze it was rng, now it will probably be smn
instead of nerfing jobs they need to add to weaker jobs to make them more appealing....but there is a point where stuff would get to easy then... but
that's why they should be releasing new content like every month, would it be that hard to make a new NM/HNM/BCNM/ENM every few weeks or so?... they should already be doing this since you pay $12.95 per month...
    Progression (Yes, please.)

you know, i think all the 75 blm's might have had a TAD too much coffee/tea/cocaine this morning, after reading the nerf it doesn't seem to bad (Unless you factor in SE's uncanny ability to drop the ball on job adjustments, but only then it seems to be a minor negative)

2 lines that are pretty much ignored from the update notes hold a great deal of importance.

"We have also made several other adjustments to minimize the effect of this change on black mages and other magic users. For example, a party fighting a notorious monster with one to two black mages will probably not notice the difference"

    and

"In addition, the monster's resistance will decrease with time if it is not hit by any repeated magic attacks."

Ergo, after reading those 2 bits of text, you can can come to a few conclusions.

1: If you have a balanced party set up (Balanced, not overfilled with BLM's who spam cast), you will probably barely feel the increased resistance.

2: If you are chain casting, simply stopping to cast for a minute or two will lead to the mobs resistance going down

Now, if you're a member of an LS that uses 12+ BLM's at Nidhogg to spam thunder IV/Blizzard IV over and over untill it's dead, then yes you have a problem. Also, if you even say only have 5-6 BLM's but they chain cast, you have a problem. To me, i see this as throwing out reserved BLM spots in an alliance on HNM and allowing more BLM/Melee rotations. After all, having no blm's in an alliance for a short period of time will probably reduce the increased resistance more than anything.

Now if you leveled BLM so you would have a guaranteed spot in an alliance at all times...well you're just gonna have to suck that up.

One thing i wonder is, are the specific resistances going to be across the board, or will overcasting elemental magic simply increase resistance to elemental magic. One problem would be if having a n00b spam casting BLM increase resistance so a PLD would be unable to land flash, etc. That would be my only concern really for this patch. Even then, it appears that you'll only run into increased resistance with BLM heavy alliances.

Although, as a monk, this may throw out 3+ monk chi blast rotations, but then again, we'll have to see. I also wonder what damage reduction from the resistance we'll be seeing. It'll be bad if it's something retarded like 75%-90% resist, but something along the lines of a gradual build up to 50% wouldn't be so bad. My biggest concern is again, if each type of damage is classified on its own or will they be lumped together to determine resistance.

Why is everyone worried about soloing for BLM? You guys solo exp on mobs that con "Impossible to gauge?" Please do tell me where that camp is. Normal mobs aren't affected by the nerf.

    Whats your useful job then?
I'm not a BLM. And almost all jobs can be used on almost all fights, it just takes more effort and control.

If you look at FFXI's graph, you will notice that FFXI's population peaked at 650,000 players in July 2005. In January 2006 the population was down 150,000 players. Interestingly enough, that coincided with the RNG nerf. I will not say that the RNG nerf was the only reason they lost that many accounts, but I am quite sure a number of them quit because of it.

    Good job square!
    LOLZOMGLEARN2READTEHGRAPHK!!??!?!?

In all seriousness, if you followed the line corresponding to FFXI, you'd notice there were 500,000 players in late February 2006, not 150,000.
