In all seriousness, if you followed the line corresponding to FFXI, you'd notice there were 500,000 players in late February 2006, not 150,000.

FFXI Dev team is all about re-using existing code.

All of the damage will be lumped together. Basically picture a giant dial that says "Magic Resistance." As you deal Magic Damage (any type), this Resistance Dial increases (proportional to damage dealt / mob HP). As time passes, it decreases. The Dial probably has a reasonable limit like 50%.

There's no way that each magic category will get their own resistance levels. Damage from Chi Blast will have the same effect as Damage from Thundaga. You give the FFXI Dev Team far too much credit for thinking they'd keep track of all of those damage types and storing separate resistance levels.

But we need to wait for the actual patch to see just how quickly/slowly this resitance builds up. Chances are it'll only be a factor when trying to kill something with 4+ BLMs. The only fight that immediately comes to mind is Bahamut V2, since killing the summoned CoP Wyrms becomes a much larger problem when you can't manaburn them.

I just remembered something I saw a few weeks ago...

If you look at FFXI's graph, you will notice that FFXI's population peaked at 650,000 players in July 2005. In January 2006 the population was down 150,000 players. Interestingly enough, that coincided with the RNG nerf. I will not say that the RNG nerf was the only reason they lost that many accounts, but I am quite sure a number of them quit because of it.

You dont need many BLMs for Temenos...what are you thinkin. You can meleeburn the freakin carby tower, only need 1 BLM for sleepga on carby.
