I know I'm a bit late, but I just had to LOL at this.

Seriously, that's something I'd expect to hear in Team America: World Police.

Fix your own problems before you want to go about fixing everyone elses.
We should've spent more time fixing the Great Depression and shouldn't have bothered going to war in Europe...
Except going into Europe was one of the most important steps to ending the Great Depression. The gigantic boost in jobs and industrial productivity as a result stimulated the economy.

Somehow I don't think going into the Middle East has helped to stimulate our economy.

Number 1 in what exactly? In 20 years there wont be any drinkable water in China because of their industrialization and lack of concern for proper waste disposal. It's a shithole of a country, but makes nice big numbers for the sunday paper.

Of course that wasn't your point, just saying . Anyways it'd be nice to not have to police the world, but with nuclear weapons don't you kind of feel that it's necessary for one or many countries to take up the job? Ignorance is bliss until a nuclear warhead is shoved up your ass.
If someone nukes us, I promise you that we will ultimately be the ones to instigate it.

I'm one of the more republican, pro-military folks there is...but seriously if a country doesn't pose a real danger to you then leave them the fuck alone. We didn't need to save kuwait, that was a monetary decision.

The above example with Saddam vs. Hitler is a good one. Hitler was taking over a fucking continent and exterminating people like they were cockroaches, I don't see Iraq as a parallel to that.

China oppresses their own people severly but it's not in our economic interests to go to war with them so we don't, it is in our interests to do it in the gulf so we do. The day big business got ahold of the company is the day it was ruined, i don't necessarily blame that on the republican party though...democrats want to hand out shit from the government until people have no will/reason to get out of bed and work in the first place, republicans want to heavily reward the folks that did get out of bed and did something with their lives.

The free market economy and democracy had a really good run, one of the best ever. Unfortunately unless all government stops being run by big business (that's both parties), it's doomed to implode on itself.

No, but it did provide a new life for the military-industrial complex after the Cold War ended. 8)

Every time one of these threads pops up, it reminds me how glad I am that I don't live in the US.

I have nothing against its people, only against its leadership.

The amount of demagoguery and misinformation in this thread is pathetic. Judging from the amount of typos in a lot of these posts, apparently when some people see a thread like this, a neuron in their brain fires off telling them to start mashing their hands on their keyboard furiously in a cathartic ecstasy. There are so many things that are just completely wrong in some of these posts, I don't even know where to begin. But for one thing, a unanimous vote would OVERRIDE a veto, so thank you so much for pulling statistics out of your ass, because it would take all of 5 minutes to look it up on teh interweb. I mean, seriously, EVEN if you didn't care enough to look up the actual numbers you could have the common sense to make up vote numbers that would actually sound realistic, but I'm sure those diehard conservative congressmen were just waiting to get the chance to vote yes for this bill anyway, right?

There's nothing like a good old moral debate to bring the retards out of the woodwork.

indeed, not to mention the US is not putting out as many scientists as before. Which lowers the likelyhood that we have the next einstein.

That's the point, i wouldnt want the "discount" cancer treatment. Hence why people who can afford it, will come to the US for care. You get what you pay for, and you typically pay a whole lot.

The September 11, 2001 attacks (often referred to as 9/11) were a series of coordinated terrorist attacks upon the United States, predominantly targeting civilians, carried out on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

Approximately 3,000 - 3,400 people died in these attacks

U.S. Troops killed in combat in Iraq 2066. 2554 overall.

U.S. Troops killed in Afgahnistan 319.(more active duty personal have died in off duty Motor cycle accidents in this same time frame....way more.)

We have come to a point in history where the world is much smaller then it was a couple hundred years ago. My opinion is that there are states that fund terrorist. These states have issues with the United States anywhere from our issues on foreign policy to the color of our Shoe Laces. Alot of these include issues with Isreal which spans back to a World issue and the UN after WWII and the Jewish Refuges. We all want peace, and we all have a vision of how it should be. Some of these issues date back 1,000 years with only the technology changing. I think 9/11 showed us we could have the violence here on our soil or we could take the fight to them. Yeah there are some perks and alot will not goto plan. I think if the U.N. Acted in better harmony many of our actions would be different. How much nonsense was spent trying to get the U.N. to enforce already establish Resolutions. What it comes down to in the end is that alot of the issues that US is on the fore front dealing with many issues, while better suited for diplomacy are failing on the floor because of the difference of agenda and the difference of alligiance. It is the United States fault, it is Russia's fault. It is France's fault, it is Great Britian's Fault, It is China's fault, and every other person's fault in the world. Hell we can't even get the JP and the NA to play well together in a fucking game.....So maybe we need to start with our indiviual selfs...I know I need alot of improvement myself.

People keep throwing in the seperation of church and state, but how many people even understand what that was ORIGINALLY about? It was about the government imposing on Religion, but that is not the point here. No one would scream seperation of state on the issue of "Thou shall not kill" would they? If you stripped away at religion it is a testiment of how to live your life. It is the bases for morality in many peoples life. If Bush is vetoing based on his Moral values then trashing him on those grounds is dishonorable. I do not support his choice, but I can respect it. I do believe that technology advancements in medical research could do wonders for countless billions. In the end all Bush is doing is making the forefront of current medical research happen else where in thw world. He will be gone soon enough and efforts will be made to revive this research to its potential in the United States where we will curse or praise someone else, but I will not burn the president because he vetoed a bill based on his Moral convictions.

I wish people came to their own conclusions about morals instead of having their church/political party telling them what's good.

Yeah seriously, people who use that term need to actually understand what that means instead of throwing it around as if religion or spirituality can't be a part of government.

You mean the Whole "Electoral College" thing. Florida recount had no bearing on the "majority" vote, Bush lost that.

    Completely agreed, with both posts.

Also many people in this thread have mentioned that Bush is making medical advancements happen elsewhere in the world instead of our own country. Actually, the FDA already does that - so regardless if Bush had signed this into law or not it'd still be going at a snail's pace through the FDA.
