But like you said, these are my definitions of them that I thought of off the top of my head, and to me casual and friends with benefits almost go interchangebly. I don't mean a friend as in someone you meet one day though, I'm saying that friend would be a good friend that you actually care SOMEWHAT about though. Like a best friend, not just some acquaintence.
More on what I said about myself earlier; I think (NOW I DO lol) it's a lot healthier and a lot safer to get to know somebody as a friend for a good while before deciding to plunge into something with them. Don't be like I have been this last year haha. I'd run into a girl, start liking her, think I know her, but SURPRISE! I realy don't know her! It goes on for a month or two, then it just kinda falls apart after I start seeing the real her and she sees the real me. Know someone long enough, and he/she will actually know you. It's a lot easier on you to find these things out if you're just his/her buddy. It's definitely gonna be much, much harder when you find these sorts of things out when you're already chained to him/her and start thinking "damn I don't like this. I want out." Then it turns into drama.

My problem? I keep winding up in this situation: I like a girl, start dating this girl, I meet her family/friends/co-workers/etc. and they hate my GUTS. These same people control her all the time, which I don't think she should put up with. I merely suggest "You know, you're 22 and your brother is 17. You don't HAVE to let him run your life like he does." She flips out yelling saying "it's not that easy! ; ;" And then I'm single again.

Oh and you don't have to lock this thread. I kinda like it, actually.

I'm late for this thread, but I should say that every single girl is unique. Believe it or not there are some really mellow girls out there that wouldn't mind you doing other things and hanging out with other friends, etc. It really depends on the girl you want to date. If she is extremely demanding and you really want to go out with her you are going to end up having to make some sacrifices.

The first serious relationship I had, I ended up living with the girl for a while, but we got so caught up living our own lives that we got too busy. So everything is purely circumstancial. See what the girl wants (if you're the guy most of the time it doesn't matter what you want).

The problem is when a girl says they want to be casual and/or just friends with a guy, even if they've only know that guy a very short period of time, they don't take it well. It's a lose/lose situation in most cases.
See as soon as there's "something more" at stake, things get all messed up like that. Expectations mismatch and before you know it the whole situation has irreparably changed for the worse.

Whoever it was that said "better to have loved and lost" obviously didn't care much for the friends he loved and subsequently lost.

quoted for the motherfucking truth, i owe you a beer aurik.

IMO, a girl that wants you to drop other important things in your life for her doesn't truly love you.

Of course not, because good old healthy love is unconditional. Not like "I love you.... when you _________..." You get the idea.

    Generally.

My view, I prefer serious. It's nice to go around fucking anything with 2 (or 4) legs but don't you feel shallow and lonely? I'm not talking lonely as in "you've got no friends" but emotionally lonely?

I had a relationship with a girl once when I was 16, I always thought we would go the distance, but it only lasted a year (which is more then most secondary school relations lol) because she went around fucking other guys (how do people change so quickly? maybe always like that?)

But, after being crushed and emo for a while I got over it and got stronger, I bet lots of people who want casual relations don't want to get hurt (rightfully so, it sucks). Yet I don't regret what I did, and if I had a chance to do it again I would, cause it was a great experience.

In the end, I'd like a serious relationship that stemmed from a casual one, I always believed you can't fall in love with someone unless you've known them for a while (lol@movies/cartoons/anime with love at first sight).

    /end rambling

I prefer casual relationship. Serious relationships sound like obssession to me. Beside, i am a jealousy freak. ^_^; so i dont want to get too attached with any girls. Things might go ugly if i see her with someone else.

I think it can be generally agreed that most successful serious relationships stem from successful casual ones, and that both are based on a solid friendship. It's just a matter of how far the two involved are ready (or brave enough) to take it. Some people can tackle marriage, other's aren't emotionally equipped for that, but there are other alternatives that are just as meaningful.

I would caution anyone who attempts the "friends with benefits" scheme to get sex, though, as I've seen it cause more of a hassle than anything else. Also, if you think your friend isn't sleeping with anyone else, you're only fooling yourself.

Sorry to post so late, but I don't typically read Sundays. I am totally for serious relationships, prolly because I am an emotional sap. I don't believe the guy should pay all the time though, or that you should spend every waking moment of your lives together.

The only reason I really felt the need to post was what Chumbelina said about his crazy ex all the way back on page 1: Its not just women who are stupid like that, some retarded men are like that too. One of my exs left me in January and still doesn't leave me alone. It's like they do it just because they think you will beg them back, and then cry when they miss their ego boost. Probably more common from womenfolk though, >.> we are crazy.

I wonder how many of the guys who don't think the man should pay everytime are posting from above the Mason-Dixon Line...hmm... ALL OF THEM?

If you are in a relationship, it's a damn shame if your significant other ever has to pay for something when you go out. Only after I lived in Maryland for awhile did I realize that northern guys just plain suck. But northern girls usually suck too so I guess it evens out.

I don't know what century you live in but nowadays a lot of girls don't like being "taken care of" in every aspect of their lives. I don't mind treating a girl out, but if she can't return the favor once in awhile because she thinks it's wrong, you've netted yourself a gold-digger. Also, you sound pretty sexist if you think a girl can't take care of a guy equally.

    I live in Texas btw.

I always offer to pay, but get denied. Does that give me points when it comes to the guy?
