"the big picture" is purely subjective. You're making it sound like the only way to make money in this game is to eventually cap a craft. SE has implemented dozens of ways to make money.

You said this to me over a year ago and the market still hasn't fallen out. If people want to use this as their sole means of income that's fine, but it doesn't mean they're not seeing the big picture. "Long run" is a supposition that eventually no one will need raw materials in large quantities, and I don't think that will ever be the case.

That's what it cost me when I did it, yes. Granted this was before the major rmt nukes that have taken place the past year, so prices were somewhat inflated.

Christmas time inflation? I could understand that I guess, but there's still price controls on the Laquer crap that could make up a great deal of levels. Break synthing is pretty easy to do 90+ WW too. There's no real reason to be 100 WW now, except for Shigeto which is kinda meh. Stay at 99 and skip break synthing Iron-Splitters or Staurobows.

It'd be really hard for the most retarded powerleveler to blow 70 million gil leveling Wood 0-100 now though. It's my second 100 craft, so I'm pretty up to date on current WW skill up prices.

Shockingly enough, prices vary between servers. And uh.. no reason to hit 100? Sup elemental staves.

If you go the lacquer route, then again, you're basically taking a much longer time to skill, as lacquer tree logs aren't always available. Their whole argument is that digging takes sooooooooooo much longer to skill up, when crafting can take forever as well if you try to maintain a low cost levelling process.

I've had enough crap t2 with Amemet mantles to never give a thought to staves. Maybe on your server they aren't absolute trash to synth.

Be wary of the law of averages. One out of four is the best you can hope for, doing better than that for a long time will come back to bite you.

Worst I've gotten so far is 5/24, which still nets about 1mill in profit for me, and I've been doing staves for quite a long time now. A friend of mine went 2/24 once, though D:

Probably helps that I don't mind waiting for them to sell, so I don't undercut like a rabid dog if there's another staff up, like several other crafters on my server do. One guy once undercut *himself* >_>

Uhhm, how the hell do you undercut yourself? I don't think its possible.

By having the last sale of the item being from you, then post your item for even less than your last sale.
On something like elemental staves, which are in very high demand, you could easily jack up the price if none were up. This guy undercuts everything, though. Whatever the previous price and amount of items up, he'll undercut by like 200k every time. <_>

    Basically, he's fucking retarded.

If you put 2 things up for 1,000,001 and the first sells for 2,000,000 if the 2nd sells for 1,500,000 you're not undercutting yourself, the buyers overpaid. *shrug* Maybe I don't know how the AH system works.

No, what I mean is like. One sold. There were no other staves up. He puts a new staff a little later for 200k less than what his previous one sold for.

I'm going to go with he put both staves up for the same amount and the 2nd buyer decided to bid 200k less than the last buyer. What you're describing makes the seller sound like an utter retard.

No, it simply means that the profit capacity is capped in a way no regular craft is.

Not seeing the big picture is not recognzing that raw goods are only worth so much, regardless of supply and demand. There's only so much people will pay for gold (for example) in relation to other prices, yet that gold can be used to gamble on much more profitable synths.

With the digging competition in place, as well as fatigue, digging is becoming more and more limited as to income possibilities.

The definition of real crafting vs fishing/digging.

Not downing them as crafts, as I levelled fishing as a guaranteed income, but it's just another type of HELM or farming.
