I've seen a few pld/war's including a koenig/aegis pld try to tank Tiamat and they always get eaten during mighty strikes.. if elegy wears, they usually get eaten before the healers can even get a cure off. I would like to see a Tiamat done with strictly pld/war's just for the hell of it, but from my experience it seems like it would be incredibly tough...

And about reinventing the wheel with nin/drk, the difference between the hate levels on a supported nin/drk and nin/war, would be like comparing nin/war to nin/thf..

I utilized my nin/drk a bit different, hitting souleater almost every other landing. With barfire gear during flight, the whm sit there bored with full MP. I think they were happy when I used souleater, they actually got to do something.

We've done tiamat with only pld/war at least twice. Mostly because we don't use pld/nin for anything. No aegis or koenig bodies, so AA rotation immediately on each landing probably helps a lot.

I'd say there's stupidity on both sides of the fence in this derail tbh.

Clearly the sash is more suited on a ninja than a samurai, but like... If said ninja's attendance was so much lower than Map and the DRK, I honestly would be surprised to see an item like Sash handed to him simply because of his job.

It's not useless for a sam by any means. A haste build for sam is very strong when meriting, and unless you're having accuracy issues and need to swap in a Life Belt, then there really is nothing better for TP gain. Whoever claimed that a swordbelt+1 would be more useful must be pretty ignorant. 6 attack is in no way better than 6 haste, as 6 attack makes virtually no difference at all, and I'd be surprised to even be able to see the per-hit difference on a parse.

Regardless, Map does bring alot of this beligerance on himself. He's not some hapless victim of circumstance here. He's made a point of bragging about the sash repeatedly on this board. And he's displayed a fair amount of ignorance towards end-game combat strategies. Though I guess if you're surrounded by shitty ninjas, it would be hard to see the potential of nin/drk >_>

Would it be better on a nin or a war? Yes. Is it worthless for sam? No.

But seriously, who gives a shit? It's a marginally improved speed belt for fucks sake.

I've had a great deal of fun with PLD/WAR tanking on Tiamat. Hate is a lot steadier, you just need a lot of stun support and good healers. We lifted IRON's tank setup (sans the Gjallarhorn, Aegis and Shadow gear) and its worked fairly nicely. Still need to try NIN/WAR or NIN/DRK tanks with a resist build though, so our NINs can have some fun and just to try something new. We'll probably also be bringing out the PLD/NINs again for Jorm, since PLD/WAR were pretty lackluster when we tried it last.

Oh, and D.ring is awesome. Pity about the drop rate and all. Really a kick in the ass when they make the ring that drops off AV merely a reverse Jelly ring, but don't even make the good half as potent as a D.ring.

I was reading this thread and got to page 19 b4 i skipped to the end lol. Map I'm sorry but you fail miserably at attempting to justify you getting the Sash by saying its just as good for sam as for nin. The entire FFXI community have proven to you over and over again that you are wrong yet are so thick headed that you cant see the truth. You are WRONG pure and simple, no ifs or buts about it. You should have stuck to arguing that you had worked more then anyone else for it and had earned it. Cause there you pwn everyone. Sure its definetly better for Nins or Wars etc but none busted their butt as much as you to get it. So eveyrone else can kiss your ass.

Yea you dont know what you are talking about. We tank Tiamat straight up with Pld/Wars with no problems. No he doesnt eat us alive, we eat him alive (38min tiamat np). Wish you can come to our server so we can teach you, and just for shits n giggles we did a Tiamat with me thrown in as a lvl 71 Pld/War cause the other pld got dc and I was still not eaten alive. <3 my support team, cause a tank is only as good as his support team. We tank everything either Pld/War Nin/War just depends on what people we have on and what mob. Have even done Cerberus with Pld/War with S&S.

Now that we got into the concept of tanking, anybody ever tried Bard/Ninja tank on Tiamat or such?

Well, it works better after the blm nerf update now, than it ever did, Mazurkas are just too much hate.

Bards can also equip Suzzies feet for Tiamat/Cerberus, and Water Staff when Tiamat takes off.


I tested the recasters the other day as 73 bard.

2xMarch with +1 instrument and Haste: Chocobo Mazurka recast 41 seconds, and Raptor Mazurka 16 seconds. And when we take into account if you cast Mazurka on full party of ppl, it is bit over the hate of provoke. Only 'problem' with this would be, that you would need to have another Bard in tank party, instead of Blm or such(of course, if you got them bards, this is no problem)


Tank party: BRD BRD WHM WHM RDM SMN

Protectra V, Shellra V, Barfira from WHM, when Tiamat takes off Fire Caro l + March from BRD, otherwise 2x March, Phalanx II from RDM and Stoneskin from SMN.


Whaddya think? I need anything you want to say(even useless crap[Nynja hello thar]) since when I hit 75 and get my nin to 37, I am gonna attempt to tank stuff.


EDIT: Oh, and almost forgot, the new BRD meritable ability (forgot which) which reduces song recasters by 50%(~?), would make spamming Mazurkas at the start of the battle easier, to establish hate.

(Oh, and Nightwind sucks as NIN btw. I'd be surprised if he actually tanked anything worthy of Defending Ring, like Tiamat or Fafnir/Nidhogg, etc. Sub "NIN" for "Nightwind" if you must.)
