What if the NIN only has NIN leveled and the bst has 65 MNK, 68 RNG? If its even of course the NIN should get it. I dont know if Map had more points than the NIN in LS but he is the leader and probably should get a item like that first.

I don't recall the exact point numbers, but the WHM had something like 20 points, and there were BLMs present with 19 points. They give Novio to the WHM, like a points-only LS would do. Yet, you can look at that and see that it is wrong to render a rare item like that completely useless just because the WHM there had 1 more point than the other jobs that worked just as hard (minus 1 point) to get that item.

No. It was nowhere near that close. And we already have a system that blurs point lines to avoid issues of absolute priority by having 1 or 2 more days worth of attendence.

=o, I don't agree that NIN can take less damage than PLD when shadows are down but that's just me. Before the shield patches maybe, but I think with shadows down and pimped NIN and a pimped PLD with full -dmg reduction won't take less than a PLD tanking with shield and a correct setup and maybe even Earth Staff PLD's.

To each his own, I won't argue with it and try to prove you wrong or anything. But I've yet to see any PLD take damage remotely close to as low as a decked out NIN does consistantly, however I'm sure you could probably say the same for NINs. Although then again there are probably only a handful of really decked out NINs and PLDs across all the servers.

It's not just that though, it's how SE (poorly I might add) designed their system for taking damage. I'm sure you've probably noticed that the damage you take with ~700 defense isn't much different from 999 defense, just like having +50 VIT isn't much different from having +100 VIT (similiar to melees and 700 att vs 999 att, etc). I don't remember where specifically, but I remember seeing detailed tests where Defense and VIT past a certain level just cap out and have little to no effect on the damage you take.

With this in mind, being able to get ~600 defense with ~+30 VIT and -50% damage taken (the one thing that doesn't cap out) really seems to be the best possible defensive setup for reducing damage IMO. As opposed to getting 999 defense and/or +150 VIT and having -30% or so. But, of course I could be wrong, this again is just based off of my experiences/observations and the tests of others.

Just wondering, are there good numbers from a test somewhere regarding shield block rates? Specifically, I'm wondering about shield mastery, the cap, shield types, and AGI.

I'm not a shield user, just interested academically. =)

Thanks, lol.. And sorry, but I'm unsure as to where this information is currently posted. I'm sure if you brouse through KI and FFXIonline you'll find at least some references to the information, although I think the actual test was posted on FFXIonline.

If I remember the info correctly it stated the current cap for shield block rate is 60%, which can be easily achieved with smaller shields (size 1) that will block very often but reduce damage by a much smaller amount. However, with the addition of Shield Mastery, you can reach this 60% cap with Tower Shields (biggest size that block less often for a higher reduction) combined with capped Shield and some +shield gear.

This is all off my head so I may be off on some information, but that's generally what I remember reading. If I come across the link I'll post it here. Until then this is the best alternative for a slightly better details on what I mean:

Edit: Good post RK. PLD/WAR is indeed far from invincible and a large waste of resources on Grand Dragons. NIN/DRK is a very good tanker for something like Tiamat, but my LS does not prefer to reinvent the wheel when it comes to something so easy as this fight. We use PLD/NIN + NIN/WAR and only the first night I got the Aegis did I try PLD/WAR (by request). I was able to keep hate much stronger than the others, but required me to be very delicate. I told many that PLD/NIN would still be more useful overall. Also, I disagree that Kaiser Shield can block for as much dmg as the Aegis and that the magic damage reduction is clearly the best part. Shield size defines the block proc rate directly from all my testing, and the Aegis seems to block as a small shield while the Kaiser is classed as a Medium shield. Shield skill does not seem to help block proc more in my experiences, it helps further reduce damage. Perhaps I am mistaken though ^^;

I have no actual personal experience with this topic (as far as Aegis vs Kaiser goes and block rates), I'm just relaying the information I've read from what I believe to be trustworthy sources. I could just as easily be wrong though so yeah, whatever lol.
