Is Cliff just mad that his Timestamp got released....
JESUS H, there are TWO topics about this.Originally Posted by noremorse

On the other thread they are talking about him saying how it will corrupt ffxi files, and that you need to delete all your files from windower? I missed that.
The things that were released are harmless, ive used them and nothing happened. http://users.livejournal.com/trixi_/109182.htmlOriginally Posted by noremorse
Hes just saying that to scare people so they delete the stuff.
okay.. i asked about other threads on BG, not for links to your LJ.. anywho thought the update to his website was a change.
And like i said, i wasn't like, OMG POL corrupt now imma go delete it!!!! =D
They're actually not harmless. They might not corrupt your FFXI/POL files, but GMs can see that you are using the timestamp plugin 100% for sure. Those timestamps that get pushed in to your backlog do get sent to the server. I highly recommend you get the official version if you value your account.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
Proof that they get sent to the server? I highly doubt thats the case.
Would you really want to try, and risk it?Originally Posted by divisortheory
Seriously... have some respect for Cliff, and follow his wishes. He takes the time, money, and stress, to update the windower and keep it working correctly, every time something becomes wrong.
So when he would warn you, that something is not correctly working... why would you go against his wishes? He has never caused harm to anypersons' account, and there has never been a reason to not trust him... so why start now?
You answered your own question.Originally Posted by Kelvanis
Im not saying he has or ever will though, but look at what you just said.
He has everyones trust now, who says he hasnt done anything or plan to? Since everyone trusts him he can easily slip a peice of malicious code by.
Trust and ignorance are two things that will rape you whilist on the al gore internets.
And then warn you about it?Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
True but in this case we have 2 options. Trust him completely and not say silly crap like that, or don't trust him at all don't use the windower and have fun sacrificing your PC to the S-E God.Originally Posted by SephirothYuyX
You do know that /echo goes to the server as well correct?Originally Posted by divisortheory
Timestamp modifies the chatlog after its been displayed, I believe, so comparing it to commands being inputted that may or may not be sent to the server doesn't quite work.
Right, SE isn't banning people for using POS hacks, and they all of the sudden are going to single out the 300 people that are using Timestamp because the traffic coming back to the server (which hasnt been proven and is just speculation) has the chatlog slightly modified?
You fuckers find a reson to bitch about and debunk everything. You have three hypothetical options.
A. Upgrade your windower and shut the fuck up.
B. Keep using the old one and shut the fuck up.
C. Stop using windower alltogether and shut the fuck up.
It's not hard. Someone askes for "proof" wtf? I'm wearing white socks, would you like proof? Oh and by the way, windower lite is being coded by another member not cliff. Want proof to that too?

This is just plain ridiculous. It's as if you haven't been playing the same game that we've been playing and reading the same forums that we've all been reading. What kind hair brained question is that?Originally Posted by draxyl
The simple answer is: Yes, they would.
Who gives a damn if "its been proven". If there is even a shadow of a doubt why do it?! WTF is the point? Having a time stamp in your chat log is really imporant enough to risk it? christ...

if those of you who are here for the reason of "ToD" here's something to think about. There are other ToD programs out there... Or you know you could do something for yourself and just write your own chat parser... Of course this is BG, I doubt the majority of the readers know the first thing about programming other than some basic HTML...![]()

The point I was trying to make was that we have no way of knowing if SE actually looks at incoming traffic to the server closely or not, and more specifically if the timestamp plugin actually modifies the chat log in such a way that that data is sent back to SE....it's all just wild speculation one way or the other.
The point of the question was to stir discussion on the topic, and it was rhetorical. I used POS hacks as an example specifically because it is something that SE should be able to monitor with relative ease (oh look, the xyz position is vastly different from one packet to the next) yet they don't specifically ban people for it unless a GM actually witnesses someone doing it.
I agree with you that if using timestamp could get you suspended/banned, its not really worth it for what you are getting. But that's not really the point I was trying to address.
