tell your non-pup friends to get on it and find a better source of kickass attachments
They do, in fact, get Aero III at 246 magic skill (Source).Originally Posted by miokomioko

What is an Automaton but a mannequin that moves?
I think the whole point of attachments coming from Pulling the Strings ENM (other than the name) only is because Goblin Fantocciniman, is a PUP. Regardless of what job the Fantoccini is, Goblin Fantocciniman sits back and does JAs to boost his Fantoccini (usually). He's the OG Puppetmaster. Hell, they might have gotten the idea for a job when they made that ENM, I don't know. I know quite a few people who have PPTs for Automaton Assault and I'm positive if they dropped there, we all would have heard something about it by now and we'd all be doing that instead because Pulling the Strings can be a real gamble.Originally Posted by Delekii

Pros:
-They are awesome items.
-It's a solo effort.
-No competition.
-2 drops are possible in one run.
-2000 exp.
-No exp loss.
Cons:
-The fight is not that easy.
-Possible to get 0 drops. Or repeats.
-5 day waiting period between attempts
Some things that I think should be altered are:
-Guarenteed one drop, possible repeat drops OK. That will still make it a long effort to obtain all 8 because they definitely will not drop all in rotation, but also endorses community selling/trading. There honestly will never be a market for these things as it is. It's like a BLM having all their AGA IIIs quested in this manner. What BLM in their right mind (who likes BLM), would go through the effort to do these ENMs, get lucky enough to get Thundaga III to drop, then sells it? It just wouldn't happen, the only attachments that drop will definitely be used because of the rarity and the level requirement and effort that goes into obtaining them. Not to mention after a PUP obtains all 8, there's no way they would ever do that ENM again (unless low level PUP friends paid them to, which lol isn't a bad idea once I get mine. RMT Kujata PUPs, please contact me).
-Fantoccini uses same frame as you, or random if you have none out. One thing that pisses me off about FFXI is how huge the variables are for everything. Irritating soloing a mob that can never even hit you, then you pull another of the same level and it never misses you. That in mind, it would be nice if winning a solo fight in this game was based more on skill and strategy rather than just having a huge difficulty curve based solely on which automaton frame the guy pulls out.
I have faced harlequin, valoredge and sharpshot starting the fight with my valoredge; so it still varies if you have your automaton out beforehand.

It shouldnt be altered that way, it would make it too easy.
I know this mainly is a topic on the 8 ENM Attchments... But...
I finally bought all my Tier II attachments with the exception of Water/Light and I must say WOW... What a diffrence they make. Stabalizer II and Tension Spring II are aweseome, I cant even imagine Attuner and Targer maker.
Granted im only lvl 36... But compared to how my Kenbishi was doing last night (only 1 Tier II) to today is a HUGE jump. My puppet seriously Out TP'd The entire Party and sometimes get around (Well what Would be if he didnt use WS's) 200 TP before most people got 120, now im I wasnt really paying attention to if people were using food or not. but either way thats pretty dam good IMO.
Question: Mountain Gaiters - What are peoples opinions on them? Anyone else use em?
I used those until I got Hume RSE2 boots. Which I will use until I get Pahluwan Crackows, which I'm nowhere near obtaining yet, only body so far...Originally Posted by Brendam

Did my first Dynamis on PUP @ 72. I , personally, hit very consistantly. But, I just lack a good huge # WS like every Jin, Rampage, Guillotine, or Asuran. My automaton almost always hit, not for a lot, but it's sorta' like I have permanent Double Attack swings on top of the usual if you consider my automaton's dmg with mine. Shield bash never missed either, noticed it stunned a few spells and TP moves. It can be really quick with Shield bash and surprise you, but for the most part it bashes way too late for some reason.
P.S.
Here's my Lv.72 Automaton stats for any who wonder what they are at.
(I haven't done much since I hit 72 so skills aren't capped...)

(Stormwaker will learn Stone III at this level, Water III @ 74)
--edit--- wtf @ stormwaker frame's CHR being higher than INT...
Guess how I know you've never touched MNK?Originally Posted by miokomioko
Not quite sure what kind of bullshit you're trying to start here. My reference was to the lack of being able to use Asuran, therefor unable to do anywhere near as much WS dmg as ninz and warz with their jinz and ramz.Originally Posted by Priran
Here's hoping you don't try and derail this into an argument about how good Asuran Fists is... or whatever the hell you meant by that comment.

It's true asuran usually sucks, but it is a better WS for the most part, even though howling fist and dragon kick can outdamage it with the right gear- however, PUP doesn't have access to that gear so...
The point was that Asuran Fists is not MNK's highest max damage WS. Saying it sucks is stretching it significantly, but Raging Fists, Howling Fist, Dragon Kick and Final Heaven can all outdamage Asuran Fists (and not talking about through SA only) in 2 simple ways: saving TP past 100% (since all of them except FH have a rising fTP) and Double Attacks (through Brutal or /WAR).
Asuran Fists is 8 hits to begin with so you can't gain any extra hits for damage spikes and its fTP modifies accuracy, not damage. Of course hitting more can help average damage, but not spike damage.
However like I said from that to saying it sucks is a pretty big step, sure the other WS will have higher spike damage when those things happen, but that's not exactly every time, and in the case of the fTP mod part, going with high TP over 100 is a sacrifice in overall damage to begin with.
The "problem" with PUP melee is due to the low hand-to-hand skill and poor melee gear options, not to poor WS options.
I agree. I actually didn't have problems getting asuran to break 1k in dynamis (since it was brought up in that context first), except xarcabard where i usually just chi on NMs. But I also did just as well with other ws like dragon kick.Originally Posted by Nagamaki

I don't think that it is a huge loss for pup not to have it, I definitely agree that h2h skill and gear have more of an impact (monks that just turned 71 usually don't have the best damage with it yet, for those same reasons).
asuran definatly doesn't suck. has a higher average, but yeah no big numbers but 1.2k right @100tp isn't nothing to scoff at (or w/e you asuran for max)
Can someone enlighten a non-MNK and 65 PUP what gear Monks use to max out their damage on AF and DK? Are STR and Attack the sole modifers?
str and att mods all wsOriginally Posted by Toth
but to answer the question dragon kick is 50% str 50% vit.
asuran is 10%str 10%vit (i think, i don't remember lol)
