Thank God someone else posted all that chocobo stuff - I was looking at it a couple days ago and was going to post it somewhere.

I noticed one piece of text that I had seen is missing, though. Towards the end of either Upper Jeuno’s or South San d’Oria’s chocobo dialogue was a comment along the lines of “…Hmm. A chick born of a red sire and a black dam would be…”

I’m assuming this is proving that red and black are the two new colors they said they’re adding this update, with the others to follow in the next one. In addition, it sounds like you might get something special for mating those two colors, as I didn’t see any text regarding a yellow chocobo gettin’ it on with any other colors.

The fact that you dont control them is awesome. I was really hoping it would be like that. As long as it's fun and the rewards are good people will do them.

If I wanted non-interactive entertainment I wouldn't be playing video games, I'd be watching TV. Chocobo racing is starting to sound a lot like gardening.

I thought they'd had plans, tracks etc. for racing long before they announced raising. Either way considering racing has been in FF before in one form or another it wasn't surprising they'd add it to FFXI.

I was dissapointed with the chocobo delivery quests they added a while back so was glad to hear they were going to add a more race oriented experience. I wasn't a huge fan of the racing mini-game in FFX but something like that could be at least a diversion once in a while, something to do with linkshell mates after the flop that was the cockbar hostelry. Finding out it's not even interactive though... blah. Whats the point? What I was hopeing would be Mario Cart chocobo style is going to be like going to the horse races.

It's interesting that you can't contorl them, good to eliminate cheats and stuff... then again they could always just enforce against hacks for once.

I think the gambling element will be cool for a week, then fizzle out and be as fun as rolling that guy in San d'oria for 10 gil a pop. I had a dream that was some grand chocobo minigame that was really good escapism from the normal game... dissapointed that it's not happening even if it was a dream I knew we'd never see... I'm more dissapointed now though that it's this thig to get bored of and not some player vs. player fun race.

If anyone was considering giving feedback but doesn't want to bother because it would get drowned out by the allatards, you should just post it at Stratics. There's pretty much zero chance of getting drowned out by ANYTHING there.

Expect your chocobo to run away after 2minutes. Kinda like people lost their first npc after 15mobs

50k for 25 charge totally worth it since you can call it from anywhere. It can probably save your ass from aggro in certain place too. Prevent you from wasting silent oil

Yep, but I don't think SE is sadistic enough to have ride time as short as 2 minutes. I do however think that the option to Exercise your chocobo (In the .dats you have a choice of what you want your Chocobo to do while at the Care Center) will increase ride thime; exercising improves it's leg muscles in the .dat files so probably increases ride time too.

Picking what it does could be interesting. Such as, someone who is smart enough to command their chocobo well could beat someone with a pimp-my-chocobo.

Wonder if we'll be able to place bets with odds just like in FFVII and you'd get to win special Rare/Ex items, that would be sweet.

I'm ready to bet up to 500gil only 2 items from the pool will be good, the rest will consist of downgrade, or useful stuff like "Digging ring. Enchantment: less fatigue"

Expecting something like a Black Ridill Belt from Chocobo Racing would be stupid. Getting cool looking gear that made you look like some kind of hillbilly chocobo breeding Tarutaru, or items to enhance Chocobo-related activities (IE, enhance racing, breeding, and digging. Maybe even run speed!), would be geat.

Seriously, thats like saying SE would make the best waist slot in the game drop off a Lv.55 Crab that dozens of people camp a day, and make their most recent/difficult HNMs drop shit noone wants, while they sit up unclaimed for days.

One good thing about this system that you can get from the dialogue is that Chocobos you retire can still be used for riding and breeding.

This means that all your hard work doesn't go to waste, and if you don't feel like paying for upgrades/food you can retire them and still get a whistle
