MONSTER RANCHER!Your chocobo ran away from the stables the moment I turned my back... It must have been upset about something. All we can do is wait for it to come back now.

Can't control our racing choco?
Fucking Boo.
Oh oh oh, Speed hacking? Simple solution:
Choco runs automatically, and there are only 5 controls.
Left
Right
Speed up
Slow down
Sprint.
Just Like FFVII.
Lag? Don't allow for a lot of people in the area and don't add a lot of flashy shit in there.
This sucks, I wanted to be able to shit talk during a race, not afterwards. >:[

PC users with faster computers can technically move faster than PS2 users with thier slower CPU, overclocked people generally move faster, this is thier way of evening the playing field I guess
Also just pure server delay. If you've ever had a FFXI LAN party or dual-boxed, you realize how off your time would be.
Everybody within 2 seconds of the Leader would see on their own screen that they were the winner, and bitch endlessly.
If PC users can go faster than PS2 users then SE has seriously fucked things up. Quake is over 10 years old now. For 10 years FPSers have been handling fast paced split second combat online (and games like Netrek for years before that.) With centralized servers there is absolutely no excuse SE can give for people being able to speed hack. It is ridiculously easy to catch.Originally Posted by Sonomaa

Yeah I know, those lazy buggers at SE, how dare they refuse to perform PS3 quality graphics and 0 lag on a gaming engine that was based around the PS2.
And graphics have what to do with player speed or detecting speed hacking? Yeah, not a damn thing.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

what did I say bout graphics aside from loading models?
I said loading peoples -stats and actions- to and from server, and performing calculations on both machines, and then sending them back.
PS2 is 6 years old, Quake is 10. If the PS2, which was touted as being more powerful than a PC of the time, can't do what a PC 4 years previous could, then theres something wrong somewhere. If the PS2 is lagging to the point that pressing forward on the pad gives a different speed then someone on a PC then it's SE's problem. Particulary on a closed track chocobo race, which is what we're talking about here, not some 64 person job ability using, gear swapping, HP changing dynamis oddysey.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
My point is speed hacking is not an excuse to gimp chocobo racing. The reason is pretty obvious, the 0.3 developers they have working on FFXI can only put out so much content per decade. We just saw what was probably the most bug ridden patch yet since they had to rush in those 3 months since ToA release to put in the content in the last patch. 5 months to the next half dozen cutscenes is it?
You are comparing apples to oranges.Originally Posted by FFXIFlux

Compare FF to other MMO, you know, since they all receive lag. But how would you know, you keep paying 12.95 a month to a game you despise.
The comparison is yours. I didn't start discussing engines, you did.Originally Posted by Lordwafik
Lets drop Quake because you obviously have some issues with it and it's completely irrelevant. I also refrenced Netrek, why, because I was simply showing that it's long been possible for a computer to take some information from the net and display it properly. For some reason you took issue with the PS2 being able to do something which it quite obviously can.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

I dont have issues with it at all, I dont even care about it, im simply pointing out you're comparing two completely different kinds of games. You brought it up.Lets drop Quake because you obviously have some issues with it and it's completely irrelevant.

I didnt misread anything. You were comparing the lag from FFXI to the lag in Quake, and I said they are build to perform different things, on different technologies. FPS do not need as much processing as an interactive MMO, where any mob can change other mobs around it.Since you obviously misread what I was saying in this thread, you're not a mindreader, and since I've never told you I despise FFXI I guess you're just making more shit up.
A 5 year old can tell you hate FFXI, dont give us that excuse that you love this game. Everyone on these forums know this is just an addiction for you, if it wasnt FFXI it would be heroine.
Most FPS are more interactive than FFXI, not less, and require more processing. You think most single server FPS are capped at 32 or 64 players because those are nice numbers and the server sits with most of it's cycles free in a full game? SE simply doesn't do a very good job on the network side and on top of that it's bandwidth capped.Originally Posted by Lordwafik

You can do the same thing with the spell list. With job abilities if you've just zoned or just logged in and you've changed jobs but not done a ctrl-j you'll get your ability list for your previous job come up. Not only is FFXI bandwidth capped, but seemingly everything has to be updated from the server constantly.
