Aurik, coming here and asking for an answer is research. People post things, ask questions, get answers. This my friend is the way of the world, if you dont want to supply answers, keep your yap shut. There is no need for you to always be such a forum troll.

    1. Scholarly or scientific investigation or inquiry. See Synonyms at inquiry.

    2. Close, careful study.

Yup, seems his question fits the criteria!!!

To answer your question, it is so rare because it is a tier 0 synth, and NQ's are a loss to make. Crafters tend not to make them unless commissioned, or as Kuno said are rmt'ing shitbags.

    Search function.
Research is when you look for the answer yourself.
This isn't research, this is asking for spoonfeeding

You want to know what life did to me? It populated the world with people like you.

Asking for all the answers while showing no evidence of having looked for those answers onesself (hint, you can find them in this forum several times) is not research. I don't care about the bullshit semantic games you want to play.

have i ever asked you a question?

I have asked one question recently and that had to do with AM II, your reply was, and this is a direct quote "KI.".

So rather than answer the question or just say you dont know, you need to be a cunt, and this is not an isolated incident, you are an asshole. I asked the question because i did not feel like taking the chance of wasting a few merits, so i asked if someone and thank god someone saved me the "research" of 4 more merits and answered the question.

The problem with the world is people like you, and that is not semantics, that is a plain bold fact. You would rather take the time to be an arrogant ass than answer a question, that is also a bold fact. Don't get me wrong, i see posts of yours that are very good, and they do contribute. Unfortunatley the lions share of your posts are you acting superior, or just being a plain cunt gasket. So next time before you press that submit button think about the time it takes you to post your witty little post in comparison to the time it would take you to post a link to the right thread. If the witty response is quicker, just dont press the submit button.

Need a tissue? Cheer up, emo kid. Life doesn't end because someone is rude to you over the internet.

Fact is you asked a blatant "KI" question. And I redirected you there. Bit hurt? Good. Maybe you'll learn to ask questions in the right place next time.

yes, you got me, wait a moment while i slit my wrists.

This has everything to do with me being emo, and nothing to do with you being a prick in general :D

Considering the ambiguity of some of the descriptions SE provided, and let us not forget some of the mistakes SE has made in descriptions regarding some of the new merits categories, i am glad i came here and asked. Obviously because you think something is not worthy, it must be so. I have a feeling this personality trait you exhibit is not isolated to the internet either. Thanks for the tips though, and keep the post count going!!!

From my understanding of BG, the crafting section tends to be a place where you can discuss high level crafting with other high level crafters (and a place to start some drama, but that's not exclusively restricted to the crafting section).

Asking questions such as the HQ rate of a particular item can seem somewhat trival as it is one of the things that a high level crafter would need to know in order to fund further crafting with an income coming from crafting items...

It's not that anyone is trying to victimise anyone else, it's like going to a HNMLS forum and asking how do you get an advanced job.

There are a multitude of threads already in the forum concerning "hard to HQ items", and posting a new thread to ask a specific question about a specific item without communicating an idea or adding value to the forum will just clutter up the thread listings.
If everyone did this when they have questions like "What are the stats of a meat mithkabob" or "How do you make a bronze ingot?" then this forum will look like allakhazam.

The majority of other forums tend to have rules where it asks you to search for a similar topic before you post a new thread... Even though BG doesn't specify this exactly, it's only courteous to the other readers of this forum.

And hence, if you are going to ask a question which is regarded as something which is fundamental to high level crafters, you cannot expect that you will always get a straight answer... We are all equal here (apart from Kuno), and no one owes anyone else a straight answer.

Or alternatively, let's all have a /poke at other people just to see how far you can wind them up... :D

    LET THE DRAMA CONTINUE!!!

    To the OP, try reading

    http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?f ... =67;page=1

This is a somewhat comprehensive guide on the basics of crafting. it states the HQ tiers and other tidbits of info that is useful for crafting.
Armed with the knowledge that the maximum level that can be attained in crafting is 100+6, it would directly mean that is you are at the max level possible, and the item of concern is lvl 96 (ffxi.somepage.com), then the maximum number of levels that you can be over the cap is 10.

Based upon the proven theory that you need to be 11 levels above the cap of the crafted item to break into tier1 (10%), it would mean that under optimal conditions, the synthesis of a pair of cursed mitts-1 would be at best tier0 (1%, if that). The simple answer to the original question is 1%. But does the OP want to know why? What if the OP wanted to know what is the HQ rate of a Mahatma Hpl? Does he make a new thread again? What about a pair of cursed slacks-1 or a Prism Cape?

Answering every little concern or spark of a question with a lengthy explaination that can be uncovered by looking a few things up using simple searches, can be draining. Not answering every little concern or spark and telling the OP to research it for himself will get you flamed(especially if you have an upgraded relic it seems)... You can't win.

Can you tell that I'm bored?

Here's another wikipedia defintion for you.

    Inquiry:
Inquiry is any proceeding or process that has the aim of augmenting knowledge, resolving doubt, or solving a problem. A theory of inquiry is an account of the various types of inquiry and a treatment of the ways that each type of inquiry achieves its aim.

So exactly what part of that definition excludes using the search function from being an inquiry?

So you agree that you are aware the HQ rate is low. Why exactly do you need a specific percent? Would knowing that its a 1% rate as opposed to a 5% rate really help you?

Yeah it does. For something with a 5% HQ rate you'd average 1 HQ for every 20 synths. 1% HQ rate means 1 out of every 100. With expensive ingredients, it would make a huge difference having to buy 5 times as many ingredients to get an HQ.

But this game is completely random and sometimes you'll get that 1% chance HQ twice before you get that 10% chance HQ once.

    So.......................it means nothing.

And don't say my example doesn't happen. I'm 0/26 getting HQ heca feet made and it's been posted what, 3/20 or 4/20 for HQ cursed mitts on this forum? 1% or 5% means shit, HQing is about luck.

It does mean a lot. You can't take a small sample size and say it means absolutely nothing. In this thread alone there were three people that were like 0/90, 0/90, and 0/44. So it swings both ways. When planning for an expensive HQ you should know what you are getting into. Hell maybe you will get lucky and go 1/1 or gets the shaft and be sitting at 0/150 and broke.

If I'm going to spend millions trying to get a +1 I'd like to know my chances and how much I'm expecting to spend.

The fact that it's not uncommon to hear it going one way or the other means that you can't truly plan on any rate. If you start to expect certain things from SE you only get dissapointed.

Its not uncommon to hear it going one way or the other because the people who go 0/ridiculous# or go 1/1 are the ones that post. For every person that gets extremely lucky there are probably ten that are HQ'ing them at a normal rate. You rarely see the people with an average HQ rate post; you always see the outliers or extremes. You can't base you conclusions on these people alone. The HQ rate is important because it tells you the average so you can get a general idea.

Also, the difference between 1% and 5% is the same as 50% and 10% (both are 5 times as likely to occur). Would you really say the difference between a 50% HQ rate and 10% HQ rate is negligible?

    **Edit: Slight math error lol

    1) 0/90 vs. 0/44 means nothing except the fact that the first person tried 90 synths and the second tried 44. 0/90 vs. 1/44 on the other hand would be something you could use to argue your point.

    2) Go back and read the OP. Now I don't know if Sartre is actually planning on buying the ingredients to try to get the mitts HQ'd, but from the sound of his post, it certainly doesn't sound like it. My impression was that he wants to buy a pair but can never find them on the AH or in any bazaars.
I never said the difference between 1% and 5% is negligible if you are buying materials to try to get an HQ. But that if does not appear to apply in this case. The difference in rarity between an 1% HQ item and a 5% HQ item IS going to be negligible.
