I have quoted the statement above because it contains a statement I feel is extremely pertinent to the subject of BRD equipment. Yigit body is just fine for bards who can't afford manteel, but you can get a vermy on my server for considerably less than the price of all the torques and earrings and belts you could get with all those assault points wasted on full yigit, and be a better-equipped bard for it.Originally Posted by phirien

It's great that you can get a set bonus, but I don't think that it is better than mixing and matching gear designed specifically for your job's needs.
Phirien level bard and beastmaster, then tell me what i need. I don't pretend to know stuff about red mage. I will maintain that you're gimped in the subjob until you have bst at 75 though, regaurdless of gear. Alternatively you can solo Adimantoise on Rdm/something else (including any adds you might get) and I'll stop bugging you about it.
The point about the Yigit set & bard isn't that it's the best end-all-and-be-all set for bard, but that it's the only way to get the two 'nearly unique' atributes that people drool over for bard at the same time.
Personally, I'm a bit against the idea of macroing in and out huge peices of +hp or -hp gear since that can either get you blood aggro and/or turn off the latent on your minstrel's ring.
Similiarly to the argument that you can macro stuff in/out and use Sha'ir Manteel & Dalmatica at the same time, you can macro in/out your +chr and +skill gear while using the Yigit set during debuffs and take the autorefresh while you're doing your party buffs (which you're doing for a much larger fraction of the time than debuffing, 2 songs for 8 seconds vs. 1 song for 4 seconds). Your hp will be much more stable so you're not going to accidently pull blood aggro or turn off your minstrel's ring.
So (going by the prior list of gear):
During debuffs:
Yigit Gomlek
Evasion+7 "Magic Atk. Bonus"+5 Song spellcasting time -10%
MP recovered while healing +5
Bard's Roundlet
HP+13 CHR+5 Singing skill+5 Enmity-3
Choral Cuffs+1
HP+14 VIT+7 CHR+7 Singing skill+10 Enmity-1
Bard Cannions
HP+17 MP+42 "Courtly Measure" (STR-8, DEX-8, VIT-8, AGI-8, INT+8, MND+8, CHR+Cool (go with the +1 version of these so you don't have the -physical stats)
Rostrum Pumps
HP-30 MP+30 INT+3 MND+3 Enhances Fast Cast Effect
& you've lost 2% song casting time , 14mp, and 7 chr, 2% haste relative to using the Sha'ir manteel.
Then during buffing, macro in the rest of the yigit set so you get the autorefresh (when your +chr and +skill stats don't do squat), your HP don't bounce around so much, you always have the -10% songcasting, and you have autorefresh for all but the 4 seconds seconds when you're casting carnage elegy.
I'm sorry, but for resting, Yigit just looks cooler than Houppelande
That's the other reason why Yigit > others for bard. It's actually a matched set that looks decent. My character is a hume male and the sha'ir manteel...looks bad. The Yigit set doesn't. I also can't stand the combined look of a frighteningly common combo for bard: Genbu's Kabuto + Sha'ir Manteel + Zenith Slacks (god my eyes!).
In retrospect I should have made a mithra so I'ld have something pretty to stare at when I'm playing. I'ld probably be arguing for the Sha'ir Manteel + RSE loincloth if I was mithra.

and trying to compare not having 75 BST to sub for my RDM (for soloing Adamantoise? Who even kills Adamantoise?) to you having substandard BRD gear is completely ridiculous.
who cares about 2 unique attributes if you're completely gimping yourself in other slots? nothing you say can justify wearing Full Yigit on BRD for refresh/-spellcasting when there's items like Dalmatica and Sha'ir.
Bard is a funny job. For the most part it's enhanced by the gear of the rest of your party. In an xp party you do 3 things. Provide mobs for people to kill (fastcast boosts this, +chr and +skill does too), enhance the gear of the rest of your party (fastcast helps this), and throw out relatively minor cures (autorefresh boosts this, +mp doesn't unless you're running out of mp and having to stop to rest, in which case you should be shot).
For HNMs, you've got 2 (3 if you've got bst at 75 and are in the right zone) options. Go with a -enmity build & buff people while pretending to be a white mage (autorefresh would help this, +mp might too depending on how your LS does stuff), or load up on haste/vit/def/-%damage gear and pretend to be a ninja (fastcast boosts this, autorefresh doesn't).
Additionally, for XP you've also got the wonder of the Minstrel's ring which requires staying in yellow hp. If you're using that you'll end up carrying around -hp gear & +hp gear and actually have a macro set that swaps in your -hp gear followed immediately by your +hp gear to trigger the latent instantly.
So, for xp you want stable hp, the ability to toss on autorefresh (as a 2ndary, but still important thought) and fastcast. Depending on your alliance setup and what role the bard is performing, you'll either want fastcast or autorefresh, but probably not both, unless you're trying to tank as bard/blu.
So, for xp, I'ld suggest that Yigit set for buffing & running around, and macroing in your +skill and +chr gear debuffing. For HNMs, I'ld still recommend kicking out your nins and making a all pld/nin or drk/nin & bard/nin tank party, but since most HNMLSs have too many tanks the full -enmity build with the dalmatica would indeed be the best solution.
All bard gear is situational, the Yigit set has it's place for bard, beyond just a hmp resting set.

About the /bst thing. I believe your LS leader said that this game wasn't about having fun but getting the best possible everything at all costs. Rdm/bst is a stupidly powerful combo, and for someone that is clearly persuing the best of everything(you have full sets for all abjurations right? mostly HQ?) it's something you're clearly lacking.

in other words, who really cares if full yigit gets your 800 more xp over the course of 2-3 hours? time is money, and it isn't worth the investment of doing assaults for months and months.
and as for you /BST comment... RDM/BST may be a good combo, but seriously, who really cares? I can't think of one important thing that /BST would allow me to do that I otherwise couldn't with another sub job. I can't think of one event I would attend as RDM/BST. Maybe Adamantoise, but I couldn't care less about killing Adamantoise, no way in hell I'd level BST to 75 to do it.

This paragraph kinda explains how useful a bst's role is endgame.
BST is useless at all HNM, unless you're in a shitty LS which needs BST to charm darters they tag.
Just wondering, think 18 BSTs charming+familiaring everything possible in aery could beat faf?Originally Posted by Lordwafik

I think that the Yigit set totally rocks for BRD. Yeah, it blows when you're debuffing mobs. You lose out on skill, you lose out on CHR.
However, like you said, macro swaps exist for a reason. One button, and I'm wearing mob debuff gear. Fact is, most of the time in an HNM fight, a BRD is either healing or buffing. Actually casting elegy, and on occasion threnody, takes up a VERY little percentage of the actual fight time.
Auto refresh is extremely nice for a bard, especially considering our lack of high MP in the first place. Minus songcasting time is really noticable on party buffs, and not so noticable on debuffs, since those have half the cast time already. So a bard is spending most of his time doing buffs and healing. Yigit totally rocks for that. I'm getting mp back while I'm casting my ballads, marches, minuets, etudes, carols, or whatever the ls wants me to cast. I'm also casting it faster than if I'm wearing my vermillion cloak, or if I had a dalmatica. It is extremely useful, and to write it off without thinking about its benefits is pretty short sighted.
Probably, but it would come down to waves of jugpets after the 18 familiars wear off. There's also the issue of not being able to really "camp" in safe spot and eating wings, unless you could somehow get him close to the ledge (lolkiting). The all BST LS beat the CoP mission POT bcnm by using 2 /blm and sleeping (and sticking sleep with seal). So possible? I guess technically.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
I think 18 VT familiared pets would have a chance at killing an NQ faf before familiar wears off - those things fucking rip out the damage. The only problems I could see would be wing spam and fafnir killing the pets firstPositioning to not get flail spiked would be a pain too.
As for full yigit for bard - buy a freakin verm if all you want is the refresh. Sure you can gear swap and get the refresh whenever you want, but you will also more than likely be losing MP, if you are a /mage. Not saying that its not good for bard to get a free (relatively speaking) refresh gear set, but if my only job is bard I wouldnt have got anything but the body, tbh. You can hardly say its GREAT gear for bard, when you can get the same effect from a 5million vermillion cloak, in 3 less slots.
Wow, derailed by 3rd page lol.
Reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllly hoping amir set turns out to be decent magic defense. For pld at least, it would have to be a hell of alot to beat a basic emnity or resist build.
well some mdef bonus is better than none.. would work pretty well vs kirin if say you get bound and you see him casting something. macro amir set in and have it take some dmg. or if he did heat breath etc. of course it wouldn't be full time gear.. but good to macro in in those situations.

Hmm I dont think there are enough pets reachable in aery to do it, even if there was, I dont think the pets would last very long. lol should be able to charm ochu types, have that sucker tank faf.Originally Posted by Jooeetheplatypus
