Not many people who play ffxi have the processing speed capable to make 60 characters in dynamis appear, let alone the 200+ in aery or behemoth's all appear on their screen... very very few do.

If you think most people who play ffxi have $3-4000 home-built ($7-8000 retail?) machines you need a serious reality check..

BTW, I was backing up no claim other than the fact that some guy claimed I know nothing about computers lol....

My $2500 laptop has very little trouble rendering 50ish people in Dynamis, and a good portion of the Aery. You could get a Desktop PC for considerably less capable of doing that.

Cable and DSL are MORE than ample for FFXI. You do not need a freaking T3 line to see a mob pop yellow. My shitty Verizon DSL when I'm at home for the summer works just fine. When I'm living at college, where the network is insanely fast, I notice little to no difference in mob pop time. Are you familiar with diminishing returns? FFXI isn't sending a ton of data through the pipe. You don't need massive amounts of bandwith to receive the minimal amount of data that FFXI is giving you. And no matter how fast your connection, slow routers between you and SE's servers will always cause you to have some delay.

And yet, the majority of players use these two connections. A T1 is fast yes, but a player isnt likely to be on this kind of a connection, because as you said below:

T1+ connections are pricey, and certainly do not justify a need for a connection of that speed just to play FFXI.

Since most players will be on more-or-less, the same median speed connection, a bot that is naturally faster than a human can easily pwn the shit out of an Aery pull, who has darters and 200 characters loaded on his screen.

You're right... at optimal settings. FFXI can play on 800 mhz. The casual online gamer is likely to have a 2.0+ ghz processor, very cheap in this day and age, and widely available, much like broadband connection options.

You show me a home-built machine that costs $4000-$8000 and I'll tell you you're a fucking idiot. FFXI has insanely low requirements for both graphics (not GPU optimized) and CPU (hay this was made for ps2's insane 300mhz processor), although it runs like shit because it's an unoptimized piece of shit port to PC from ps2, it's not an intensive game. Not to mention that the game is can be played over standard dial-up. Hell I sat at Kirin once on my piece of shit cingular cell-phone/USB connection (felt like 14.4) and although a bit laggy the game was perfectly functional.

Unless you think the data going back and forth has like images in it and stuff? Any broadband connection of today (you show your ignorance again by claiming that dsl and/or cable is better than the other) is more than capable of handling ffxi's traffic. Most limitations are due to bad/unoptimized coding slowing the game down, not connection speed and omgwtf$8000 computers.
