Superman: Amazing. Well acted from the new comer Brandon Routh. amd Kevin Spacey is incredible as well (The Life of David Gale ftw.)

This is the strangest thing to me in this whole thread.

I'll agree that Kevin Spacey is a talented actor, but citing The Life of David Gale? I found that movie to be the most "twist" movie I've ever seen. The success of the whole movie kind of depends on not seeing the twist coming, and it failed miserably.

Kevin Spacey's turns in The Usual Suspects, Seven, American Beauty and L.A. Confidential were awe-inspiring. I can honestly say I don't remember his acting in David Gale (probably good), but I couldn't past the poor direction/screenwriting.

I found Superman to be far too cliche. Everything you expected to happen, happens. Superman comes back to Earth, and Lex Luthor comes back with some kind of diabolical scheme, Superman attempts to foil, Kryptonite is thrown at him, but he overcomes by his friends. It was far too ordinary for my taste. I don't really think Kevin Spacey's acting could save it (I personally don't think he fit the role of Lex Luthor very well).

I totally agree. I'm a big fan of Kevin Spacey, but I found this movie incredibly boring and incredibly long-winded. Great eye candy of course; but at the end I couldnt help thinking that the $250 million or so it took to make the film was completely wasted. Routh wasnt bad but didnt impress me much either. I guess he fit the role because he looks uncannily like Reeve. 4/10.

As far as the best films of this year, its a hard list to make because good films were few and far between. Its just been filled to the brim with mediocrity. I must say I enjoyed Pirates, but it wasnt orgasmic or anything. The length was absurd. It would have been just as good if it were two hours long instead of two and a half. But I guess its starting to be a new trend for the blockbusters.

Maybe I'm not so critical of films, but damn is it possible to enjoy stuff without it being the best ever? Personally, my opinion on the whole 'every single role played by this actor is the same and if you seen one movie you seen them all' though, is that its obviously not true. They may be very similar but it isn't the same jokes(most of the time). Everything has been done before, get over it ;o.

Exactly how could you make Superman movies that aren't 'cliche'? His only actual weakness is kryptonite, so you can always tell what the hero's crisis will be, then he gets better somehow, does something amazing, movie over and everyone happy.

X-men works better for films than Superman because all mutants have multiple weaknesses and strengths, so there can be much variation.

But yeah, Snakes on a Plane very well could be the top movie of the year.

Well I watched "A Scanner Darkly" last night and it was fucking awesome!!!

Made me think of Kill Bill and Sin City, the way it was filmed.. It's one of those movies you have to watch over again to really get it.

Story is pretty kickass too, made me feel hella guilty to be high at that moment lol; the story is pretty realist.

A great hidden gem, if you like the unhollywood/underground movies, this one is worth watching.
