Chocobo Raising Now Available! (08/21/2006)

So far I am guessing you get white by keeping it balanced with stats, black by going for physical attributes (walks) and blue is by raising mental attributes (music)?

I can say with almost 100% certainty there's more to it than that. That doesn't even take into consideration the location you got the egg from. I think where you get the egg from has a major part in determining what color your chocobo will be, or if it will be colored at all. Wasn't the very first adolescent chocobo in this thread pink? Maybe pink ends up turning into red.

Mine is white tipped, from the Puk ISNM. I did about 50/50 walk in town and listen to music.

Mine is white-tipped as well, but from ISNM60 Colibri fight.

Fed it a lot of Zhegam Carrots, and Azouph Greens. All stats still Poor, but has a sensitive personality and has not once gotten sick.

Like I said I just put out a simple theory to get started with the guessing. As more people put details on which egg they used and maybe try to find counterexamples we can get a better idea, but so far the origin of the egg didn't seem to make to much difference in this first stage (although they might have different potential and one might be easier to turn a color than another). Also I didn't see any pink chocobos, I think they have been only white, blue, or black, but I might be wrong.

Yeah dezzimal about the pic I just wanted to reference it, maybe I should have just added a link to it instead of showing it, I think it was even used earlier in this same thread at least once hehe.

90% of mine were listen to music, assorted otherwise.

im guessing the brightly colored chocobos are at the player's discretion (or perhaps related to what nation you come from, for example, windurstian chocobos can choose to be green), meaning you can 'paint' your chocobo whatever you wish. as you can see those brightly colored chocobos look rather 'unnatural' compared to the yellow, black and blue (bluish gray) ones, so im assuming that it's some kind of customization option. also the fact there are no red tiped or green tiped teenage chocobos in the model viewer.

I actually think I recall an official message from SE at one point stating that initially only a few colors of chocobo would be available, and the rest would be introduced in subsequent updates. Am I mis-remembering, or can someone find the link to the official word where they said that?

Mine just hit day 19 and turned out to be white tipped. Got my egg from the Puk ISBC. Been feeding mine a Zegham + 2x Vegetable Paste until today. Been alternating between basic care and listen to music each day. Not sure if anyone cares or is keeping track of what seems to do what but figured I'd throw my info out there.

I recall them stating that as well, but I can't find it, implying there would only be Black, Yellow, and Blue Chobocos, just like in that last update image of the Chocobos in Ronfaure. I did find this, however.

It was stated in the June 19 Topics that a chocobo’s appearance would change along with its attributes. Due to an extension of the testing period, these changes will now be implemented in a following version update.

Am I the only one who thinks Geno's looks smaller relative to the other chocobos. I might be wrong, but just incase I'm onto something:

What size are your characters, Geno and Otarius?

Edit: My theory has more credit to it that I just realized. Partially due to the fact that you can call your chocobos. So the Tarus are naturally going to raise smaller chocobos. And Elvaan will obviously raise larger chocobos.

Any comments on my theory?

hey question, do you have to rest your chocobo when they get sick, or can you just feed them one or two toko grass and they'll be ok?

I know someone who didn't even do anything and their chocobo was well again. Talk to the Chocobo FAQ NPC in there about resting, I am almost positive that they mention it's for resting up your chocobo when it's injured or fatigued, and I have yet to hear of anyone's chocobo getting injured. Perhaps it's possible now with the longer walks and the competing, more labour-intensive activities.

You don't have to set the care plan to rest, I did that when my chocobo was ill, and it recovered before my rest care plan came into effect (which was weird cause I set it to plan 0. btw it recovered while doing "listen to music".

Asides from sending your choco into a coma "rest" seems pretty useless.

I would assume, just like rental chocobos, the size is dependant on race. But just for reference I am a medium-sized taru.

By the way, the feathers on my chocobo don't really look that white but they are definitely not black either. Am I only hoping they aren't white for want of a colorful chocobo or is it some kind of color between?

Your colors are interesting. When I look I see both white and black. I think this is because of your basic care spam, increasing both it's Mental and Physical sides, but neither to the extent we see in other chocobo's like Gulkeeva's.

Yeah the trainers themselves say the food has only a very small effect.
The rest coma problem and care schedule probably had a lot more of an impact. Yellow with white tips could still turn into other colors though for all we know, or be useful for breeding.
When my chocobo got sick I never set it to rest, just gave him a toko.grass like the trainer suggested and it got better, so I would also say for now rest doesn't seem very useful yet.
If you post your color please add what care program egg etc you used too (even if you mentioned it somewhere deep within this thread before).
