The chocoguy states that rental chocobos have an emphasis on strength and endurance, so it sounds like having the highest stat possible in strength and endurance might = speed/duration of a rental chocobo.

Anything less than the highest possible strength/endurance stat might be slower/less duration than rentals.

As for the stat levels, probably:

    Poor
    Substandard
    Standard
    Fair
    Good
    Very Good
    Excellent

    or something.

If Excellent was the speed/duration of a rental, would there be any point to raising a chocobo? Would be a waste of time, the rental would already be the best chocobo obtainable.

I'm willing to bet that the rentals are the best riding chocobo obtainable, and that homegrown chickens won't run any faster or longer. However, your personal one will likely be capable of better digging (since rentals are focused on physical stats, and have poor mental stats). They also have the benefit of being summonable in areas where you may not have easy access to a chocobo. You can OP to Li'Telor and call your chocobo to get to aery quickly before first window, perhaps.

I bet that rentals are just middle of the line birds. If you breed [maybe.] you can get a really good bird. I dunno. In real life [ I hate compairing this to real life but what the hell.. ] if you were to rent a horse for example, the horse will only be middle of the line becasue they dont put the money into the training, nor the time. A personal horse [or chocobo] will always 99.9% of the time be better.

Yes, you can acually rent horses.

10 races, 8 wins, 2 losses. He's being a bitch again, being told to race him.

Still feeding azouph greens and alternating between exercising alone and delivering packages.

Carrying Packages, or delivering? Delivering Packages/Digging for Treasure isnt an option for me yet, Day 23.

On a related note, 2 days of Carrying packages took affection from parent-> it seems to like you alot. Down two tiers.

Sorry if this has been posted earlier.

I just obtained the impatient chocobo story (Sandy trainer story) from Windurst. All you have to do is do regular walks and run into Hantileon 3 times. I now have three stories.

Has anyone run into Brutus or the third trainer (respective to where ever you traded your egg) yet?

What do you feed it to raise endurance/strength?

I seemed to notice normal chocobos slowed down at one point recently in an update.

Or maybe I got spoiled by fleezurka and chocobos just "seemed" slower.

I would imagine you feed it nothing but appropriate carrots and do whatever care options raise whatever stat

I wouldn't think it possible to get more than 1 or 2 stats First-Class.

Judging by how the first generation is going I'd bet it will go something like this:

It seems like the few who are getting to the Substandard level of development on their Chocobos are getting to it around the time when it reaches it's "Teenage" years aka Adolescence. I'm willing to wager this means that for each stage of life it goes through, with training everyday if a particular stat, it can gain approximately one level in the respective area.

This theory might sound confusing so I'll try to explain it further. Let's say it takes about 19 days for a Chocobo to reach it's Adolescent stage. That means, including the affect of food on the Chocobo (which is minute), it takes about 20 activites to raise a stat one level with the basic training options (the moderate arrows). I don't know how much the stronger arrows will influence the development but I'd bet they won't affect it more than 1/4 more than the previous one, maybe 1/3 tops.

So with my theory, after about 3 stages of development, Chick > Adolescent > Adulthood, you could potentially gain around 3-4 levels in a particular stat area. With the way things currently work that means, from the initial Poor, to an Average.

    Poor > Substandard > A bit deficient > Average > Better than average > Impressive > Outstanding > First-class

I'm willing to bet my idea is true or very close to true for a number of reasons. One, it'd be stupid if you could easily obtain an Excellent in two categories the first time around. That'd totally eliminate the purpose of breeding for the majority of Chocobo users. Riders don't need anything besides Speed/Time and Diggers don't need anything but Mental Attributes. With my theory it forces one to breed with other chocobos to create superior chicks who will start off with higher stats.

    Example:

Chocobo A is an adult and has Average Strength and Better than average Endurance.

Chocobo B is an adult as well, and has Average Strength and a Bit deficient Endurance.

Breeding these two Chocobos would result in a Chocobo with around a Bit Deficient in both categories and Poor in the others. This would allow this new chick to advance to around Impressive or Outstanding in it's Strength and Endurance.

If you're going to argue that maybe Breeding is of purely cosmetic purposes then I say it can't be. For one, color was suggested to be an indicator as to how the Chocobo is and the attributes it possesses. I'm sure that a Chocobo being Black/Purple would mean it's Strength and/or Endurance are about Impressive. I'm sure the Burnt chocobo is what the colored chocobos look like before reaching adulthood, and our generation of chocobos will all be yellow (Sorry to all you hopefuls thinking you have Blue and Black Chocobos).

It's like they were slimpy adjusted in hue. Hell, I could do a better job altering the existing yellow texture skin to make a better looking Chocobo. At most, the Jennet had some green as to help for camouflage in the jungles of Elshimo as requested by the Khazam tribes, but was illustrated by SE as yellow with red/green feather tips.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for the red/green ones. Yet.
I believe this is true, but I do agree about the attributes being higher on a bred chocobo.

I'm going to have to disagree for most of this post. I believe the right 3 aren't implemented, though not for the same reasons. I also believe the gray one in the middle IS already in the game.

The fact about the graphic quality doesn't imply to me that they're unfinished chocobos, just that they're different breed. Looking at this picture posted on page 49, the chocobo in the middle of the picture looks like the 4 right chocobos in the group shot.
    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics.../538/538_5.jpg

Now as for why I think the gray one is implemented...I think most everyone who think they have a black chocobo right now really has a gray, and those with white tips are going to be the black ones. Looking at the group shot, or even this picture
    http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ent/choco2.jpg
the black chocobo has white tipped feathers, while the dark gray one has solid tipped feathers. If you compare the solid dark tip feathers of the adolescent chocobos to the adult dark gray chocobo, the color seems to be a better match.

I've also noticed the feathers get darker towards the middle on the white tipped chocobos, which would match the black chocobo in all the images.
This image from a couple pages back gives a good angle to see the darkening feathers
    http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/953/chobi2ry7.jpg

Of course, I could be entirely off about all of this, and everything will flip around when they hit adult, but thats just how things appear to me. Just keep in mind your white tipped chocobo may not be the let down you think it is.

I just got a message "Your chocobo seems to have more zest for life nowadays" for the first time (he was restless yesterday, raced him but didn't scold him, he got better). Discernment raised up a level too so I don't know if you always get that message when a stat raises, I just thought I would mention it.
