Nope, I just mated mine with someone else's. It does however, put it in a lovesick mood, making it not eat well and have low energy. Too much humpin'.Originally Posted by Pyrena

When your chocobos affection drops too low it becomes unusable. I'm sure you also can't call a chocobo that is unhappy with you.Originally Posted by Celeras
Yea just wait until you try calling your chocobo and it tells you, "afk banging hot chicks"Originally Posted by Celeras

He still has Poor as strength so he only runs about 10% faster than normal PC speed. Still, I am going to get that up. He just better not steal anything.
Oh and lolPUP75.
:O! It's my chocobo's future lover! That's hawt.
So, do you give both cards to only one person, and they trade it in? Does only that person get an egg (meaning, one of the two choco owners gets screwed)?
Black choco owners shouting 400k on my server. No idea if anyone's buying.Originally Posted by shinobi_tabi
There's no sense in it at all. Just because they have a black chocobo doesnt mean you're going to get one if you mate with it.
You acquire a chococard with your bird's info from your VCS trainer npc. Another individual acquires a card for their bird. They can give you their card and you get a VCS honeymoon ticket from npc in jueno. Trade all three to npc to have your bird go on a date. You can obtain one egg from the mating. No one is getting screwed cause you can always get another chococard for your bird, and the other person can always get another chococard for their bird. Talk with the npcs, they explain the process clearly.Originally Posted by Khamsin

Cue me handing him a chococard. Apparently, I have become the Tarutaru Red Mage/chocopimp for my blue, who indeed does bring all the girls to his yard. (Chococards are auctionable and apparently people like his coloration from the comments I get when we're out taking a ride)
What frightens me is a small child is planning the sex life of thousands of chocobos. What is this, some sort of prodigal Dr. Ruth for birds?
Mating hasnt been around long enough for anyone to know how it works (sorry if theres sarcasmn in here somewhere, but my sarcasm detector has never worked.)Unless you choose the Sports plan, I think it was. The one that makes the offspring inherit from the father's side. (or Jeuno Tour, if its the mother that's black).
The NPC you talk to that's next to Brutus says that the colors are dominant and recessive like eye color. Since yellow is dominant, anyone breeding with a yellow chocobo is going to be yellow, and the grandkids have a 50% chance of being black/blue. They're not sure how black + blue works.
Found it in http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php?m=posts&q=132777 when looking for the answer to my retirement breeding question.
You don't have to have grown a 2nd generation chocobo to know, the NPC that offers the date packages tells you straight up that certain plans will cause your new chick to inherit from one side or the other, or will have an increased chance to be male or female.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor
So the possible traits inherited in the different packages does not necessarily include color.
Not quite, it depends if the chocobo is ALL yellow or a hybrid, time break out....Originally Posted by Pyrena

This would be a Hybrid(Yellow) and a colored chocobo.
Thus it's a 50-50 shot of yellow or color.Code:Y y y | Yy| yy| y | Yy| yy|
Hell, even two Yellow Hybrids can have a colored offspring (WHO YOU SLEPT WITH BITCH!?)
Here it's 25% chance purebred, 50% hybrid, 25% colored.Code:Y y Y | YY| Yy| y | Yy| yy|
However, we're dealing with multiple colors here, I'd have to wonder if the true nature of genetics within breeding will be revealed then, because my first instict is something like...uh...something I don't have. I had an image here, but I realized it's totally wrong. Stupid short-haired bunnies.
I'm just throwin this out here, I'd like to know some geneology and other things before I really get started on it.
Edit: Oh, and also yay not-evolution, chocobo offspring changing due to how it's raised. But yea video-game blahblahblah, I'm just humored by it.
Oh yeah, I meant all those people with pure yellow chocobos buying colored cards for a bunch of gil are gonna get yellow chocobos. Eventually, some of them may be so mixed it'll be a surprise what color you get.
One of the NPCs near there says it is. "So dam A's chick will inherit the sire's beautiful blue plumage, while dam B's chick..."Originally Posted by Pyrena
Not if you use the Sports or Jeuno Tour plans, then they will have a higher chance at getting a colored chocobo.Originally Posted by Pyrena
Of course, you could simply have read the description for each plan, which clearly states that's exactly how it works.Originally Posted by Tahngarthor
