My chocobo is on Day 28, and probably gonna be yellow. Since I'm a few days behind, I've read the whole thread but probably missed this somewhere. Do you HAVE to retire it to breed it? My potential mate doesn't want to retire yet.

Nope, I just mated mine with someone else's. It does however, put it in a lovesick mood, making it not eat well and have low energy. Too much humpin'.

Lv.3 care plans absolutely shit on your chocobo's starting energy for Care Options.

Like, doing a Lv.2 plan, I could do 2 long walks. After Lv.3, about the most I can do is a long walk and 1 story.

But seriously, does that even matter anymore? POL site says all manual care options do nothing except build affection/stress chocobo, except for the stories which helps with mental stats.

When your chocobos affection drops too low it becomes unusable. I'm sure you also can't call a chocobo that is unhappy with you.

How much would someone pay you for your chococard even though it only cost 500g to make one <.<

You acquire a chococard with your bird's info from your VCS trainer npc. Another individual acquires a card for their bird. They can give you their card and you get a VCS honeymoon ticket from npc in jueno. Trade all three to npc to have your bird go on a date. You can obtain one egg from the mating. No one is getting screwed cause you can always get another chococard for your bird, and the other person can always get another chococard for their bird. Talk with the npcs, they explain the process clearly.

One of my LS has a chocobo that's lovesick. He thinks getting the poor girl some lovin' will fix that.

Cue me handing him a chococard. Apparently, I have become the Tarutaru Red Mage/chocopimp for my blue, who indeed does bring all the girls to his yard. (Chococards are auctionable and apparently people like his coloration from the comments I get when we're out taking a ride)

What frightens me is a small child is planning the sex life of thousands of chocobos. What is this, some sort of prodigal Dr. Ruth for birds?

The NPC you talk to that's next to Brutus says that the colors are dominant and recessive like eye color. Since yellow is dominant, anyone breeding with a yellow chocobo is going to be yellow, and the grandkids have a 50% chance of being black/blue. They're not sure how black + blue works.

You don't have to have grown a 2nd generation chocobo to know, the NPC that offers the date packages tells you straight up that certain plans will cause your new chick to inherit from one side or the other, or will have an increased chance to be male or female.

Not quite, it depends if the chocobo is ALL yellow or a hybrid, time break out....

However, we're dealing with multiple colors here, I'd have to wonder if the true nature of genetics within breeding will be revealed then, because my first instict is something like...uh...something I don't have. I had an image here, but I realized it's totally wrong. Stupid short-haired bunnies.

I'm just throwin this out here, I'd like to know some geneology and other things before I really get started on it.

Of course, you could simply have read the description for each plan, which clearly states that's exactly how it works.
