Chocobo Raising Now Available! (08/21/2006)

Man, even though I'm only on Day 34, my STR/End is only substandard. I feed it 3 Vomp Carrots every time I get a chance to check on it (every 2-3 RL days), and have it carry packages as his care plan (this is all I have ever done with it... Vomp and carry packages). The thing fucking hates me, and he looks like I just sodomized him with my throbbing cock every time I get into the chocobo menu... WHY ISN'T HE TERMINATOR YET?

Mine is only Average Discernment and Receptivity, and I've been doing only Digging for Treasure, Act in a Play, and Exhibit to the Public only.

I'm not certain whether two days of Exhibit to the Public, or one day each of Digging for Treasure/Act in a Play will end up with the higher overall increase, though..

Burrow, so far, gives items that don't normally show up in a zone with a 'normal' chocobo. Worrisome Chocobo story gave me Burrow. Examples so far in Altepa:

Eastern Altepa: Wildgrass/Fruit/Grain/Vegetable seeds
Western Altepa: Black Choco Feathers/Red Moko Grass

Checking other areas now.

Maybe Bore will get you elemental ores or something outside of weather. That would be nice.

Thanks for the info about burrow. I have been reading mine the wrong story... no wonder he wasn't learning it lol... Someone with a wiki account should fix that part. EDIT: I just made an account and fixed it =P

I will try to learn burrow with the right story tonight and for now not worry about bore, maybe make my next chocobo with that one instead when we know something more about it... (the fact that I haven't learned bore easily makes me wonder if maybe it's not about discernment/digging...)

Btw I also got the impression that status aliments/lovesickness etc lower the speed at which attributes go up. Also care seems way more important to me than food, mine has been fed only the cheapest possible foods and still got level 6 stats so far.

Good job on uncovering some tidbits about raising in a digging direction. From what I have read so far, nothing looks even remotely interesting with regards to digging. Wow... seeds in areas that don't usually give seeds. I'll keep an eye out for something a little more rewarding for the effort that goes into maintaining a chocobo.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but after SE stomped all over digging (which can take more than a year to level) I expected raising to address the massive kick in the dick digging took.

Raising a new choco, Day 18 and is still a baby/chic. Is this normal, or is it retarded?

On a side note, it has substandard strength as a baby.

What have you done to get a rank while it was still a baby?

It'd be nice to see how one of these super-trained chocobos do when they're mated to another in the same line...maybe we'll see better-than-poor ranks in a stat earlier.

As a compulsive chick-raiser, I've come to believe feeding nothing but Vomps and a care plan of only Take a Walk will always get you Patient personality on Day 8, and Substandard stats in one or both of STR and END on Day 18, the last day of Chick stage. At least, it always has come out that way for me.

Similarly, Zegham carrots and Listen to Music will result in Enigmatic personality on Day 8, and Substandard REC and/or DIS on Day 18.

Either way, on Day 8 and 18 these results were infallible if I stuck to the one-note food and care plans described.

Unfortunately none of my supertrained experimental subjects will be available for breeding since I've tossed them all on Day 19 for being urine yellow.

Im leveling up at the same pace as kuno, just 2 days behind him exactly (every time he posts a skill up I get it two days later, probably because i did a stupid + mnd stats one day and had to cancel it out. Regardless, I never feed mine vomp carrots, just as he said, azouph greens, sometimes even just ghyshal.

I got Burrow too tonight, after switching to the right story hehe :wink:
Actually the fact that i couldn't seem to be able to learn from the Youthful story (for Bore, although at the time I thought it was for burrow) makes me think perhaps Bore might not be related to digging and discernment? Just a thought, it would be good to hear from anybody who got it of course..

Anyways, day 49 I finally my forest sage has both abilities (Burrow, Canter), so now I can focus on just raising his stats from level 6 to level 8 (max) and then I can just retire it and start a new one =P

Watch over it will increase affection. Actually any of the care options increases affection: telling a story, long walk, etc.
Mine always get to "wants to be with you all the times" at the start of each new day, but just reading a story a couple of times or going on a walk gets it back up to "considers you as its parent".
If you really want to spend gil, sharug greens raise his affection a little too, but they cost 800-900 gil on AH, and you only get 400 gil from your chocobo each day so you'd be losing money...
I think if it fails his activities that can hurt his affection toward you more by the way, or in general it's not a good thing and you might want to back down to an easier activity of the same type for a day or two or until he gets higher stats.

By day 48-49 I think everybody's chocobo can basically have impressive-outstanding stats even without ever feeding it anything expensive, as long as you understand care plans.

o.O I learned a 3rd story just now... Basically I already had 2 abilities, but I tried to keep reading my remaining stories. I read the happy story anyways and I didn't get a lightbulb a 3rd time, but I got a weird animation where my chocobo flapped his wings in happiness, the log said "your chocobo appears to be very happy", and his energy went back to full. The happy story also disappeared..
After that, I learned a 4th story, same deal, for impatient/gallop.. The only one I haven't been able to learn is Bore...

I used to feed it 60gil greens from the npc but then I moved upto the fancy 2k/stack Azouph greens. I only used elixers once and that was to get the whistle on the first day but that was dumb and I probably wont do that again in the future. I get more money with its message delivering then I spend on it lol.

As for testing speed we were busy most of yesterday and nobody wanted to check it with me. I can probably do it today.

i started a new egg with a friend and haven't checked since i gave it to the npc (tonight is day 5 i think). watching over the egg doesn't seem to do anything and basic care is auto - me not visiting it won't have any impact, right? or will my choco have SIDS?
