Nope. My first bird and current ones have eaten nothing but zeg carrots from the day they hatched, and do nothing but listen to music, and neither has ever been enigmatic. Both are the 'good with people' one. ("Patient, good with people", I think? Not sure about the first word.)

Regarding abilities, has anyone learned Gallop before learning Canter?

After Genome saying he couldn't learn Bore but could learn Burrow, I suspect that they're tiered, and that now he has Burrow he'll be able to learn Bore.

I'm just going on my understanding of the definition of the words, Canter being slower than Gallop and Burrowing being scrabbling beneath the surface and Bore being hardcore deep drilling like for oil?

Actually I think almost everyone learned gallop before canter, the reason why I chose canter is that it's much harder to get (you can get the gallop story while it's a baby, canter is from meeting jeuno people 3+ times as an adult).

About Bore, it's still pretty weird that I now learned four out of the 5 total stories, all except that one, even though i tried to read that one for weeks.

After learning my 2 abilities I learned the remaining stories in just 2-3 more readings each (meaning I would have been able to learn those anytime even as abilities), but even using a full bar after that for bore I was not able to learn it.

Maybe I need high physical stats for that one (although I didn't need those for gallop, canter, and auto-regen) and my chocobo has mental stats level 6 but physical level 1..
Or maybe it's my egg type (faintly), predisposed to learn easily all other stories except one?
Well, either way, its nice to know that you can learn unlimited abilities. The chocoguy scared me when he said he had read you can only learn two. At least this means you don't have to choose carefully which order to read your stories.
Sorry if I wasn't clear, I mentioned this in an earlier post: you still can only keep the first two abilities, it will just go to a different CS and eat up your story and give energy when you successfully learn a 3rd and 4rth ability, but you won't actually keep that ability, so you still want to choose the first 2 carefully (they are not as critical choices as rajas/suppanomimi/ethereal since you can make a new chocobo, but for that one they are still fixed choices).

Aww... I know six was a small sample but it would have been nice to have found a tiny little constant.

    Test with Celerity Salad

Love sick + Tummy ache = cured by next day
Broken Leg + Love sick = cured by next day

So i guess celerity salad not only gives a bit of affection but also cures all ailments.. i wonder if all stats go up a bit too.. super food?

Yeah, that's it I think. I've only read it basically every day since chocobo breeding was introduced, you'd think I'd remember it by now...

Which means, an Outstanding Discernment/Receptivity chocobo will probably be slightly dumber at digging than a rental.

Although, the chocoguy did say the rentals were raised with emphasis on strength and endurance so... maybe they will excel in digging versus rentals, afterall.

I did some testing with my discernment chocobo and digging, I could dig up basically the same rarest items (for example philosopher's stones) with my own chocobo even when it was just level 5 discernment. I didn't notice a difference with level 6 from 5, it's difficult to tell since it mostly depends on who else has already been digging.

One of the new abilities I got (burrow), however, has a clear difference, it adds a lot of other types of items to the possible results. These are pretty much always worse than the best older items, though, and actually fill up your "fatigued" 100 items faster of course, so you actually end up finishing digging for the day faster (good i guess), but making much less profit (bad I suppose).

For example in the deserts it adds fruit, herb, grain seeds and chocobo feathers, so you can fill up fast with those instead of gold, platinum, orichalcum, etc... Or in Zitah you fill up with worms, silver and mythril coins, chocobo feathers etc instead of gold coins because of burrow.

Still I am glad to have it because it makes it more fun and a little more new to me, but I can imagine many diggers will actually not want it..

So maybe I should focus on Bore, instead...

Did anyone test, btw, if Canter increased riding time? Gallop seems a Strengthish stat, and Canter seems kind of Endurancish to me. It is a more steady paced gait. A horse can go much longer at a canter than a gallop.

It's also kind of ironic that you need high mental stats to learn Gallop, yet the chocobos that would make the best use of it (black strength-based chocobos) will never be able to learn it.

I just wish you could learn more abilities, though.. would be nice to have 3 or 4.

That's what I was thinking when the various seeds were listed a few pages back. Maybe in LTP seeds would be okay (since what's there other than crap?), but would you want seeds, feathers, or grasses where you could get good stuff?

I've been using rental birds for digging instead of my Discernment-trained ability-less bird, just because I can stay on it longer and they run faster once I'm finished digging.

Maybe there are new rare items to dig up with Burrow (or Bore), but for now I'm not holding my breath.

Except the rentals arnt bread to be smart they are bread to run fast and last long. So probably not, if anything your chocobo would be a better digger more than likely.

If someone gives me the time their chocobo stays out (especially ones with "poor" physical/endurance stats) I will do a test and tell you how long mine stays out with canter, I don't expect it to change though, and of all stats it would be the most useless since you can just immediately use another charge on your whistle if the chocobo ride times out, and each charge only costs 1k to recharge.

Hm.. has anyone figured out the specific effects of discernment and receptivity?

For example, does discernment increase the chances of digging up a rare item? Does it improve your chances of finding something (versus "You dig and you dig, but find nothing.")? Do you notice less failed digs with Burrow than without (even if it is crap)?

We should come up with a list of possible effects for Discernment, Receptivity, Burrow, and Bore, and test them out.

    e.g.

    List of Possible Effects:
Increased chance of unearthing a rare item.
Decreased chance of a failed dig.
Increased variety of items available for digging.
Decreased fatigue accumulated with each dig.

We know Burrow increases the variety of items available for digging, but is that all it does? Does it do anything else on that list? What does Bore do? What does Discernment and Receptivity do? Are there any other possible effects of these stats and abilities that have not been mentioned?
