    Huh? How would 2 blue make a yellow if yellow is dominant...? Did you fail high-school Biology? If either of the parents had a yellow gene, they would be yellow, not blue.

    Anyway, my 2nd-gen just hit teen. Both parents black, has black tips. No surpise there. A bit deficient STR, substandard END, ill-tempered. Something interesting though... a lot of people in my LS started new chocobos with the same parents, and they've all gotten ill-tempered. It could be a coincidence, or it could be related to care plans/food though, since everyone's been doing the same thing with them pretty much.

    So I got my bird's STR to first class what feels like weeks ago, maybe a week after Kuno did. Since then I've spammed deliver packages and continued to feed him azouph greens. His stamina appears frozen at Substandard. Anyone else had anything like this happen?

    Is it time to retire him and try to breed?

    No, it's time to retire him and throw a thanksgiving chocobo feast.

    Same problem, I am starting to think that when it said "your chocobo seems to have stabilized" on day 68 or so, it meant that each stat could only go up about 1 level more (since mine went up 1 level since then), like if you have max STR and say 4.5 END, it could still go up to 5 and that's about it.. unless anybody had their stats go up 2 levels since then instead of just one, but so far 3-4 people here have noticed the same problem.

    Also the results people had with colors and breeding seems to show that it doesn't really follow any normal mendelian genetic rule, despite what the chocobo NPC seemed to hints at, but still has possible random results.

    sorry, 126 pages....and search function doesnt exactly allow you to target specific pages.

    wikipedia doesnt have any information on this:

    I had a thought.
    How exactly do stat rankings operate?
    Is it a point system, with each rank being a static amount, or possibly a steady gradation that directly translates into performance, and it changes rank once you hit a certain strength?

    Meaning, could there be a Low Average and a High Average or is Average just Average?

    Also, what are the abilities of the First Class Strength Chocobo around here?

    Gallop: Nothing
    Canter: Nothing
    Auto-Regen: Nothing
    Burrow: Introduces new items into digging pool
    Bore: Introduces new items into digging pool

    These effects are just what has been observed so far, and may not be comprehensive. There is no telling whether or not Gallop, Canter, or Auto-Regen will do anything on the Chocobo Circuit or not, but only time will tell.

    All chocobos have the RECESSIVE colored gene. If by chance you are lucky enough to produce a chocobo with color, and breed it with a chocobo of same or another color, you MIGHT get a yellow depending on if either parents have a yellow gene in thier DNA.

    Since someone had mentioned that chocobo breeding is akin to inheriting eye color from your parents and or grandparents heres a link I found. (unfortunatly the only color choices are blue green and brown lol)

    Sacra, your post is both overly combative and fails to grasp the point being made by Kerberoz. Let me see if I can rephrase better.

    Suppose that chocobo color is determined by something similar to Mendelian genetics. Each chocobo has two genes for color. Suppose that yellow is the dominant gene (other colors would be recessive, then, though the order of color dominance would be up for debate.) Thus, any chocobo with a yellow gene would have to be yellow.

    If you breed two blue chocobos, by virtue of the fact that they are both blue, the parents would each have two blue genes (or a blue and some non-yellow gene.) There's no yellow gene to be introduced to the child, so it can't be yellow!

    So if you do get a yellow chocobo from such a union, this implies that either chocobo color is not Mendelian (seems likely), or yellow is a recessive.

    Just because a trait is the most common doesn't mean that it's a dominant. If yellow genes were recessive, but most of the population was yellow to start with, it wouldn't be surprising if the population remained largely yellow. I think there are many real-life examples of similar situations.

    1.someone said they had two blue parents and they got yellow baby.
    2.also a black and yellow parent and got blue baby.
    I am starting to think that yellow is recessive and that some of the colors are going to be recessive or dominant to another depending on which.
    If person 1 speaketh the truth then it looks somthing like:
    B y+B y=y y(if y is recessive)if y was dominant instead then those two blues wouldn't have been blue in the first place
    If person 2 speaketh the truth then it looks somthing like:
    BK B+y y=B y (in this case black is dominant to blue which is dominant over yellow)
    B=blue
    y=yellow
    BK=black
    G=green
    also heard someone got green from blue and yellow
    B G+y y=G y, in this case blue dominant over green which in turn dominate over yellow too
    2 blue making a yellow baby kinda proves that yellow is recessive, since those two blue wouldn't have been blue if they had any yellow genes which they did give to their offspring
    B y+B y= yy(that is just the luck of the draw total recessive baby, kind like how two brown haired brown eyed ppl can birth a blonde haired blue eyed child.

    Your analysis seems reasonable... but whew, it's sounding way too complicated to be a reasonable system that the designers would have made if we keep it as Mendelian genetics.

    Honestly, I'm leaning towards thinking of it as each chocobo having a "color probability distribution". So chocobo A might have {yellow 80%, blue 15%, black 0%, red 5%, green 0%}. The actual color would be determined randomly based on those probabilties. Chocobo A would probably be yellow, and definitely wouldn't be black or green. Whatever color it ends up being, the chocobo would retain its probability distribution. When two chocobos mate, their distributions would be combined in some way to determine what distribution the child has (date plans that influence inheritance from parents might affect this.)

    Note that I have nothing to back this up. This just seems like a reasonably simple method that would work with the data I've seen... it's how I'd do it.

    I think you guys are missing a big point. Maybe the ISNM eggs that were raised before the patch were ment to be red or green. And so when they were breed you would see abnormal results. Ie Not being forced yellow or an entirely new color showing. I don't think the ISNM eggs were ment to have that many regular yellows and why some where yellow with a personality instead of just average.

    I'm confused. Why would they create eggs that were intended to be red or green, but make blue and black chocobos available first? If the eggs were intended to be red and green, I would expect that red and green chocobos would have been available before blue and black.

    It's difficult to say what they were intending with ISNM eggs vs. Mithra salesgirl eggs. I know there was the comment a developer made about how you might get a special egg that produces a nonspecial bird, but its offspring would be remarkable in same way.

    It's notable that eggs that were incubated prior to the changeover still could and did produce the newer colors. Therefore, the capacity for fancies was in the egg's "genetics" prior to the change, but was expressed only as black or blue until the coding to hatch it as another was unlocked in the update. It'd certainly jive with the physical changes in chocobo shape that first-generation birds can't have but post-update ones can.

    I do wonder if multiple "genetic" flags rather than a single one determine coloration, and if a chocobo can carry more than one non-yellow coloration as a possible option (heck, does crossbreeding allow for more than parental colors + yellow for chicks?)?
