No need to find the dirty hanky a second time, nope. Just register it and you're good to go. No hoops to jump through at all. I was really surprised.Originally Posted by Khamsin

It's kinda cool at first, because you get more items and more variety (at least with burrow), but then when you add up your results you realize that you actually make a lot less gil from it.
Maybe those are good for people just trying to skillup though (since you get to 100 item faster if the zone is not already dug up), assuming your digging skill can skillup on raised chocobos and not just rentals..
Yeah. Why in the world wouldn't you get a variety with Bore? Other than that one DS ore, all I've gotten are flint stones, lots and lots of flint stones.Originally Posted by genome
One more chance. I'll pick a new zone and dig with my bird today, but if all I get is more flint, then that's it.
Problem is, now I have no raised bird without an ability. (I threw out my first bird's cards because his stats were all substandard. Didn't figure I'd ever want to see him again.) Maybe my current egg will be raised to adulthood, even if it's yellow...
Has anyone whose second-gen chocobo started with an ability tried teaching it two more?
The chocoguy says chocobos can only learn two abilities... "or at least that's what I've read."
So, since we don't know where the chocoguy read his information, it is possible (though not likely) that it may be inaccurate. The NPCs in the game do seem to have reliable sources, though...
Second yellow chocobo today =( I went ahead, stopped raising it and am now trying a new one. Third time's a charm I hope.
Nice.. grats.

Day #3 of digging with Bore: Yuhtunga Jungle
There is something very, very strange about Bore. I've been digging for years now, and I've only missed one day of digging since the system change. I know how a zone "feels" when you're the only digger in it. Bore feels like no digging I've done before.
Check out these two logs:
Log one.
Log two.
These three days, I've never had more than two "you dig and you dig, but find nothing" digs in a row. Usually when I'm in a zone alone, I'll get ~8 items, then 8-10 failed digs until the zone is restocked. With Bore, it seems like the zone is always stocked. *boggle*
I always take a minimum of 20 stacks of greens out with me. The least I've ever used was 16. These last three days, I've used less than 10 stacks per day.
New items in this zone:
Arrowwood logs: Got 11. Bah.
Yew logs: 3. Meh.
Elm: 1. Okay.
Laquer tree log: 1 Good (sells for 10K)
I noticed that with burrow too, basically it almost seems to replace a failed dig with a potentially junkier item, seeds coins etc, so I get way more items in a row but most are not what I wanted.Originally Posted by ThistleChaser
From your results it seems that bore fills it with junk items similar to what you already could get (you wouldn't get that many arrowwood logs in the jungles normally) instead of junk that's very different from normal results.
One test you should try is to go in a zone that's already very dug up, like near jeuno or altepa, take a normal chocobo and dig a little that way, and then dismount and switch to your raised chocobo, to see the difference in a dug up zone more.
For burrow, if a zone is really dug up completely, burrow won't help, you will still get mostly miss-digs. If a zone is just somewhat dug up, where a normal chocobo would get 4-5 missed digs in a row, burrow would replace something like 2-3 of those 4 missed digs with burrow-like items.
pretty sad for digger enthusiasts that these new abilities suck so bad.
wonder if it would help skill up faster, but with how it sounds, we still got the 100 item cap per day and it seems they haven't changed total number of stacks used to level at all either. guess we won't know if it actually helps you skill faster till a noob diger with it tries. i am leaning towards them being for netting you more lower tier (see: crappy) items, if you find you are lacking in that area![]()
Wow, I finally made it through all 129 pages! So much interesting information. Ever since I returned to the game back in late summer I've been wanting to put together a page with as much information as possible. I did just start this a couple of days ago, but please feel free to swing by the KoolAid site and check out You Got Warked! My email address is at the bottom of the main page, so if you have any more information you'd care to add, point out or correct, please drop me a line. You guys have been invaluable, so thank you for all your efforts.
I'm on my third chick now, and she will be my second case study for food research. I'm still waffling between having a disc/rec or a str/end one, since the likelihood of her being black is high (might be able to answer that "does black + black still = black" question that I didn't see anyone respond to).
Take care and happy chocobo raising!
I caved in today and retired my chocobo, I wanted to help out by measuring when the auto-retire kicks in, but I got tired of waiting for it especially now that stats can't go up anymore.
So, I hope other people keep going to find out when it happens, but I can say at least that it is definitely longer than 81 RL days (my chocobo was on day 81-82 when I retired it).
I did that, except started after it hatched since you don't really need to care for an egg other than watch over it anyway if you bother at all >_> Set the care plan on "Take a walk" all 4 weeks as soon as it was a chick and came back when it would be old enough to actually be a color.Originally Posted by Navia
It took a few days to get affection back up to parent but it's not exactly time-consuming (feed gyshal greens and take it for a walk, onos).
I've decided I'll keep mine going until at least day 100 waiting for auto-retire. My girlfriend reactivated her account a few days ago and hatched a female chocobo, so I'll probably help her raise some stats on that for future breeding seeing as it's impossible to find a female bird on Asura with anything higher than lol.Originally Posted by genome
Day #4 of digging with Bore: Sauromugue and Rolanberry
What interesting stuff I got today!
Started in Rolanberry, where I got a ton of mushroom-type things. (7 Woozy, 7 Sleep, 3 Dance, 1 Reishi) For a while I had that "no more than 2 failed digs in a row" thing going on, enough to get 30 items, then it just stopped dead so I went to Saur.
Saur is where things got interesting! Very first dig game me a Titanictus Shell (WTF?), and I ended up with 4 of those total. Also got 2 turtle shells, 2 wyvern scales, 2 sea shells, 1 HQ pug scale, and 4 fish scales.
About 30 items came from Rolanberry, and the rest from Saur. Only 2 gold beastcoins total, bah.
In both zones I had that "non-stop item-getting" thing for quite a while before it totally stopped dead and I got nothing.
Day 23 of chocobo born after the patch:
http://tshot.org/kerberoz/schwarz002.jpg
Bred from 2 black parents, he has black tips. No surprises there. Quite a few people in my LS have chicks with the same parents... they should all be hitting teen soon; I'll make note if any of them don't turn out black.
I'm currently on day 81.
My chocobo has now spent like 13 of the past 15 days being lovesick, and he just got lovesick status again for the 3rd time. like 6 days lovesick, unsick for 1, then got lovesick again for another 6 days, unsick for 1, now it just got lovesick again today
I think its a sign i should finally retire/mate it eh :\
My third gen bird was born today.

Parents were:
Father: yellow, first class disc, average rec, Bore
Mother: black, outstanding disc, average rec, Burrow/Gallop
Plan was to try to get the mother's traits, to try to get the offspring to be black. I'm just glad it didn't get Burrow...
