installing ffxi

heyo..

recently on the windower forums i asked for laptop advice on which i should buy.. i bought it.. and just recieved it today..

so now im actaully getting ready to install ffxi on the laptop... my disc is at a friends house and i cant get there till tomorrow...

so right now im taking the whole POL folder from my desktop to an external HDD.. then to this laptop... you think it will work ?

You still need to fill in the registry part. ff11 won't boot up if it can't find those.

The work envolved and the bumps you'll run into aren't worth the trouble.

Seriously, unless your pretty clued up on how to use the registry don't bother - not for the sake of one day!

The registry is like a scalpal - if you make an incorrect correction/edit you can screw your entire system.

I'd go as far to say i'm very familiar with XP and it's workings and had a dabble in registry a number of times, but I would not really know where to go for this.

As for just copying the folder of your FFXI directly over without this - it won't work. By installing the software all the edits and new strings are created in the registry which tell windows what is where and that it has the required files to start the program.

Wait until you get the disks - go grab a beer in the meantime
