Since Reloaded? Last good Metallica record was the Black album... and even that pales in comparison to the earlier ones. All the others ones have sucked ass.

Load has great tracks on it, 2x4 I think was a earllier song remade I believe as well. When reload came out it was just crap compaired.

I thought so highly of Load and Reloaded that I broke the CDs in half a few years ago when I was filtering thru all my music.

The Black Album was the last Metallica album I enjoyed. (And the ones before it, obviously.)

After that, apparently someone stole their souls and turned them into the Budwiser of metal bands. No surprise that this album has been the same "Load" of shit.

It's a shame really, Metallica was my first favorite band and this was 10 years ago in Junior High. Then they had their little hiatus and came back and everyone was all excited, but it wasn't that great.

Oh well, great things don't last forever.

I still like Metallica the most compared to other bands but that's only cause I pay attention to their older stuff. It really was from when Cliff Burton died he had a part in tons of the good music (hell, he ran the band pretty much in a way) and when he died they took it really hard

Ugh, my ears. I'll agree very much so with previous comments, the death of Cliff Burton REALLY hurt Metallica. Since then, 90% of their tracks have sucked badly because Cliff Burton was quite an influence in their songwriting Also, losing Dave Mustaine was probably a blow to their creativity too, because he wrote/co-wrote a lot of songs on 'Kill 'Em All' and a few from 'Ride the Lightning'. I dunno how far Mustaine's influence reached but part of me wonders whether a lot of their songwriting was influenced by him. I wouldn't be surprised if a few songs on MoP were influenced (even slightly) by Mustaine, aswell as Burton. I think losing both of them, as they both seemed very creative, was too much of a blow for Metallica. Since then, they've just been mediocre and relying on the old-school Metallica stuff to keep fans content and loyal at live shows.

And Justice was a great release, and had neither Mustaine or Burton on it at all (except that one track, forgot the name.) This means that Metallica does have the capacity to write some good songs that are heavy as all hell, they just choose not to and instead opt for bigger commercially viable songs. Aka: sell out.

I disagree. Some bands choose to do that, but not all. AC/DC and Kiss are bad examples. Metallica changed the genre they were in, a fundamental shift from where they were. AC/DC, Kiss, etc. haven't changed their sound. They still sound like AC/DC and Kiss. Granted they haven't released anything groundbreaking or done anything as well as their old stuff, but it's not a huge departure from what defines them as a band.

I dunno.. it seems every band from 80s to earlier has decided to write barely anything new and basically just perform old things. And Metallica's And Justice For All... was actually influenced all by Cliff Burton I believe, the last of his work helped make it.. The Black Album was really the first album without their influences I think.. that album was decent but not as good as earlier ones and I bet you that if cliff were still alive Metallica would be the same good old Metallica everyone loves D:
